  • A very simple synthetic route of a novel SATE prodrug type of 6'-fluoro-6'-methyl-5'-noradeonosine carbocyclic nucleoside phosphonic acid is described. The key fluorinated alcohol intermediate 7 was prepared from the epoxide intermediate 6a via selective ring-opening of epoxide. Coupling of 7 with $N^6$-bis-Boc-adenine under a Mitsunobu reaction followed by phosphonation and deprotection afforded the carbocyclic phosphonic acid. The chemical stability of the bis(SATE) derivative 13 was measured at neutral (pH 7.2) and slightly acidic (Milli-Q water, pH 5.5) pH. The antiviral activity test of the SATE prodrug 13 and its parent nucleoside phosphonic acid 11 were evaluated against HIV-1.

  • This report describes the echocardiographic features of an indirect Gerbode defect in a young cat. Echocardiography revealed high-velocity, turbulent systolic flow directed from left ventricle to right ventricle through a ventricular septal defect. The flow immediately entered the right atrium through a tricuspid septal leaflet. The indirect-type Gerbode defect was confirmed through necropsy. When a high-velocity turbulent flow in the RA without pulmonary hypertension is observed on echocardiography, Gerbode defect should be considered.

  • The effect of ice-quenching after degassing on the hardness change during simulated porcelain firing in a metal-ceramic Pd-Au-Ag alloy was investigated by means of hardness test, field emission scanning electron microscopic observations, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The hardness decreased by ice-quenching after degassing, which was induced by the homogenization of the ice-quenched specimen. The decreased hardness by ice-quenching after degassing was recovered from the 1st opaque stage which was the first stage of the remaining firing process for bonding porcelain. The microstructural change showed that the increase in hardness during the remaining firing process was caused by precipitation. The ice-quenching after degassing did not affect the hardness change during the subsequent porcelain firing process.

  • (Estimating Compensation for Personal Information Infringement) As the value of personal information increases, personal information infringements is more likely to happen. The compensation for personal information infringements needs to be calculated in the process of infringement remedy. However, as personal information is regarded as non-market goods with no exchange price and calculating the remedy for mental sufferings from infringements has no guideline, it is not easy to determine the compensation amount. In this study, we adopt Contingent Valuation Methods (CVM) to analyze Willingness to Accept (WTA) of each type of personal information. Also, this study attempts to examine a standard model for calculating compensation by applying JNSA JO Model of Japan, which is not prepared in Korea. This study does not simply present a plan of estimating compensation. By measuring the value of personal information, it could awaken companies and organizations to the importance of personal information security.

  • It is necessary to prepare a stable production base in advance for a change in the global grain market, and it is required to prepare comprehensive countermeasures such as securing technical skills and cultivation technology. Therefore, Korea, which relies on imports of major grains other than rice, could be exposed to a food crisis at any time unless the self-sufficiency rate of grains is improved. In order to respond to this new food crisis, it is necessary to find ways to efficiently utilize rice fields to increase the domestic grain self-sufficiency rate. From this point of view, interest and demand for the generalization of farmland that can be used as paddy fields and returned to paddy fields are increasing, and related research is also being continuously performed. In order to select a multipurpose farmland project site, this study extracted farmland containing 10% or more purchased and stockpiled farmland through spatial analysis (buffer, dissolve, intersect, etc.), and finally presented areas subject to multipurpose farmland projects. The target site for the multipurpose farmland project was finally selected by integrating data onto a point-by-point basis so that the current status of farmland purchased and stockpiled, Farm Manager Registration Records, and the Korean Soil Information System data (drainage classes, surface soil texture, field-suitability classification, etc.) can be used in combination. There are 175 areas where the multipurpose farmland is possible. Incheon 2, Gyeongbuk 40, Gangwon 2, Chungbuk 7, Chungnam 48, Jeonbuk 34, Jeonnam 19, Gyeongbuk 15, Gyeongnam 8. Chungcheongnam-do has the most target site for the multipurpose farmland project, and Gangwon-do is the least. It is expected to contribute to new commercialization and business expansion by deriving business areas by identifying the scale of the farmland multipurpose farmland project using Farm Manger Registration Records and spatial data.

  • Gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) has been reported to be implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory disorders. The migration and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) are key components of vascular inflammation that leads to the development of atherosclerosis. The present study aimed to investigate the molecular effect of GRP on VSMC proliferation and migration. We report that GRP significantly enhanced the proliferation and migration of rat VSMCs. GRP increased mRNA and protein expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and -9 (MMP-2/9) in VSMCs. The induction of MMP-2/9 by GRP was regulated by the activation of the signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT3). In addition, STAT3-knockdown of VSMCs by siRNA or blockade of the GRP receptor inhibited GRP-induced migration of VSMCs. Taken together, our findings indicate that GRP promotes the migration of VSMCs through upregulation of MMP-2/9 via STAT3 activation.

  • Image quality and selection of optimized window for good quality reconstruction in coronary angiography using multi-detector row CT (MDCT) have not been studied by heart rate and its variation. Therefore, the effect of heart rate and its variation was systemically analyzed. Eighty-three patients were undergone contrast-enhanced coronary angiography using MDCT. In this study, sixty cases were enrolled. Two radiologists graded image quality as follows: 4, excellent; 3, good; 2, fair; l, bad. The starting points of the reconstruction window were chosen at seventy and forty percent of R wave interval. Optimized window was scored as 1 when 40% reconstruction was better quality than 70%, as 2 when 40% reconstruction is same as 70%, and as 3 when 70% reconstruction was better than 40%. Regression analysis was performed. The range of variation of beats per minute (BPM) was well correlated with image quality (r=-0.55, p=0.000), however correlation with optimized window percentage was not statistically significant (p=0.969). By contraries, median value of BPM was comparatively well correlated with optimized window grade (r=-0.24, p=0.086). Median value of BPM was not well correlated with image quality (r=0.l70, p=0.l97). Image quality is more affected by variation of heart rate (VHR) than by higher heart rate. Selection of optimized reconstruction window for good image quality is mainly affected by heart rate and there is a tendency that systolic phase reconstruction is better in image quality than diastolic reconstruction in higher heart rate.

  • Purpose. Citrus aurantium L.(familyRutaceae), alsoknownasbitter orange, have been used as traditional herbal medicine in many Asian countries since ancient times. Hence, the purpose of the study was to briefly discuss the new findings about anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities of Citrus aurantium L in-vitro. Methods. The articles for this study were collected from pubmed and scopus electronic resources. Results. Citrus aurantium L contains an abundant Flavonoids, including hesperidin, naringin and nobiletin. These Flavonoids has reported to have various medicinal benefits that include antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-diabetic activities, and also used to treat cardiovascular diseases. Conclusion. Based on the above evidence, we propose that Flavonoids from Korea Citrus aurantium L would be a therapeutic potential for cancer treatment and pharmacological benefit for inhibiting the inflammatory effect.
