Among several available high-k dielectrics the lanthanum zirconium oxide ($LaZrO_x$) system is very attractive as a buffer insulating layer. Because both lanthanum and zirconium atoms, the constituents of the $LaZrO_x$ thin film, have been considered to be thermally stable in contact with Si. The $LaZrO_x$ films were deposited by a sol-gel method. After the deposition, The $LaZrO_x$ films were crystallized at $750^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes in $O_2$ ambient. PVDF-TrFE films were deposited on these $LaZrO_x$/Si structures using a sol-gel technique. The sol-gel solution was spin-coated on $LaZrO_x$/Si structures at 500 rpm for 5 sec and 2500 rpm for 15 sec. The deposited layer was dried at $165^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in air on a hot-plate. Then, we deposited Au electrode on PVDF-TrFE films using thermal evaporation.

This paper proposes a 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick oxide air-bridge structure which can be used as a substrate for RF circuits. The structure was fabricated by anodic reaction, complex oxidation and rnicrornachining technology using TMAH etching. High quality films were obtained by combining low temperature thermal oxidation (50$0^{\circ}C$, 1 hr at $H_2O$/O$_2$) and rapid thermal oxidation (RTO) process (105$0^{\circ}C$, 2 min). This structure is mechanically stable because of thick oxide layer up to 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and is expected to solve the problem of high dielectric loss of silicon substrate in RF region. The properties of the transmission line formed on the oxidized porous silicon (OPS) air-bridge were investigated and compared with those of the transmission line formed on the OPS layers. The insertion loss of coplanar waveguide (CPW) on OPS air-bridge was (about 1 dB) lower than that of CPW on OPS layers. Also, the return loss of CPW on OPS air-bridge was less than about - 20 dB at measured frequency region for 2.2 mm. Therefore, this technology is very promising for extending the use of CMOS circuitry to higher RF frequencies.

Polymeric films of high chemical stability and mechanical strength covered with a thin metallic film have been extensively used in various fields as electric and electronic materials. In this study, we have chosen polypropylene (PP) as the polymer due to its outstanding chemical resistance and good creep resistance. We coated thin nickel film on PP films by the electroless plating process. The surfaces of PP films were pre-treated and modified to increase the adhesion strength of metal layer on PP films, prior to the plating process, by an environment-friendly process with atmospheric plasma generated using dielectric barrier discharges in air. The surface morphologies of the PP films were observed before and after the surface modification process using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The static contact angles were measured with deionized water droplets. The cross-sectional images of the PP films coated with thin metal film were taken with SEM to see the combined state between metallic and PP films. The adhesion strength of the metallic thin films on the PP films was confirmed by the thermal shock test and the cross-cutting and peel test. In conclusion, we made a composite material of metallic and polymeric films of high adhesion strength.

[ $Sr_xBa_{1-x}Nb_2O_6$ ] (SBN, $0.25{\leq}x{\leq}0.75$) ceramic is a ferroelectric material with tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) type structure, which has a high pyroelectric coefficient and a nonlinear electro-optic coefficient value. In spite of its advantages, SBN has not been investigated well compared to other ferroelectric materials with perovskite structure. In this study, SBN thin film was manufactured by ion beam sputtering technique using the prepared SBN target in $Ar/O_2$ atmosphere. SBN30 thin films of different thickness were pre-deposited as a seed layer on $Pt(100)/TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$ substrate followed by SBN60 deposition up to $4500\;{\AA}$ in thickness. As-deposited SBN60/SBN30 layer was heat-treated at different temperatures of 650, 700, 750, and $800\;^{\circ}C$ in air, respectively, The crystallinity and orientation behavior as well as electric properties of SBN60/SBN30 multi-layer were examined. The deposited layer was uniform and the orientation was shown primarily along (001) plane from XRD pattern. There was difference in the crystal structure with heat-treatment temperature, and the electric properties depended on the heating temperature and the seed-layer thickness. In electric properties of Pt/SBN60/SBN30/Pt thin film capacitor prepared, the remnant polarization (2Pr) value was $15\;{\mu}C/cm^2$, the coercive field (Ec) 65 kV/cm, and the dielectric constant 1492, respectively.

A characterization procedure for analyzing symmetric coupled MIS(Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor) transmission line is used the same procedure as a general single layer symmetric coupled line with perfect dielectric substrate from the extraction of the characteristic impedance and propagation constant for even- and odd-mode. In this paper, an analysis for a new substrate shielding symmetric coupled MIS structure consisting of grounded crossbar at the interface between Si and SiO2 layer using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method is presented. In order to reduce the substrate effects on the transmission line characteristics, a shielding structure consisting of grounded crossbar lines over time-domain signal has been examined. Symmetric coupled MIS transmission line parameters for even- and odd-mode are investigated as the functions of frequency, and the extracted distributed frequency-dependent transmission line parameters and corresponding equivalent circuit parameters as well as quality factor for the new MIS crossbar embedded structure are also presented. It is shown that the quality factor of the symmetric coupled transmission line can be improved without significant change in the characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constant.

A general characterization procedure based on the extraction of a 2n-port admittance matrix corresponding to n uniform coupled lines on the multi-layered substrate using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) technique is presented. In this paper, the frequency-dependent normal mode parameters are obtained from the 2n-port admittance matrix to analyze multi-layered asymmetric coupled line structure, which in turn provides the frequency-dependent propagation constant, effective dielectric constant, and line-mode characteristic impedances. To illustrate the technique, several practical coupled line structures on multi-layered substrate have been simulated. Especially, embedded conductor structures have been simulated. Comparisons with Spectral Domain Method are given, and their results agree well. It is shown that the FDTD based time domain characterization procedure is an excellent broadband simulation tool for the design of multiconductor coupled lines on multilayered PCBs as well as thick or thin hybrid structures.

A processing method is developed for preparing sol-gel derived $Pb(Zr_{1-x}Ti_x)O_3$ (x=0.5) thin films on Pt-Ir($Pt_{80}Ir_{20}$)-alloy substrates. The as-deposited layer was dried on a plate in air at $70^{\circ}C$. And then it was baked at $1500^{\circ}C$, annealed at $450^{\circ}C$ and finally annealed for crystallization at various temperatures ranging from $580^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$ for 1hour in a tube furnace. The thickness of the annealed film with three layers was $0.3{\mu}m$. Crystalline properties and surface morphology were examined using X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Electrical properties of the films such as dielectric constant, C-V, leakage current density were measured under different annealing temperature. The PZT thin film which was crystallized at $600^{\circ}C$ for 60minutes showed the best structural and electrical dielectric constant is 577. C-V measurement show that $700^{\circ}C$ sample has window memory volt of 2.5V and good capacitance for bias volts. Leakage current density of every sample show $10^{-8}A/cm^2$ r below and breakdown voltage(Vb) is that 25volts.
Carbon nanotubes were synthesized at various conditions using Ni-catalytic thermal chemical vapor deposition method and their characteristic properties were investigated by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Carbon nanotubes were formed on very fine Ni-catalytic particles. The carbon nanotubes synthesized by thermal decomposition of acetylene at $700^{\circ}C$ had a coiled shape, while those synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ showed a curved and Y-shape having a bamboo-like morphology. It was found that the carbon nanotube was also made on the fine Ni-catalytic particles formed on the surface of 100~400nm sized large ones after pretreatment with $NH_3$.ber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.

Organic field-effect transistor (FET) based on a copper Phthalocyanine (CuPc) material as an active layer and a $SiO_2$ as a gate insulator were fabricated and analyzed. We measured the typical FET characteristics of CuPc in air. The electrical characteristics of the CuPc FET device were analyzed by a Maxwell-Wagner model. The Maxwell-Wagner model employed in analyzing double-layer dielectric system was helpful to explain the C-V and I-V characteristics of the FET device. In order to further clarity the channel formation of the CuPc FET, optical second harmonic generation (SHG) measurement was also employed. Interestingly, SHG modulation was not observed for the CuPc FET. This result indicates that the accumulation of charge from bulk CuPc makes a significant contribution.
