Technology and its utilizing ability is a critical competency for the learners to acquire to live in the Digital Era of 21st century. However, little is known about how the competency involving technology affects academic self-efficacy. To address the aim of the study, a survey was conducted with 39 questions including technology knowledge, learning strategies with technology, and academic self-efficacy targeting 137 students in A university. The result of the structural equation modeling shows that the technology knowledge of college students indirectly influences the academic self-efficacy. The learning strategies with technology are mediating variable linking technology knowledge with academic self-efficacy. Technology knowledge explains 71% of variance in learning strategies with technology. Therefore, college students need to keep up with knowledge of technology and improve learning strategies with technology to activate academic self-efficacy.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the mediated effect of academic failure tolerance in the influence of professor support on academic procrastination of university students. A Google survey was conducted on 211 students at D University in Gyeonggi-do, and descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression were conducted using the SPSS program with collected data. The mediated effect of academic failure tolerance has been verified through three stages of regression analysis (Baron and Kenny) and Sobel Test. The results of the study are as follows; First, professor support has a negative correlation with academic procrastination, and a positive correlation with academic failure tolerance. In addition, there was a negative correlation between academic failure tolerance and academic procrastination. Second, it showed that academic failure tolerance has a full mediated effect in the influence of professor support on academic procrastination. This implies that it is necessary to create an educational environment that can raise the level of professor support and academic failure tolerance of university students in the academic situation. Therefore, this study suggested the need of providing a program of professor support that can improve academic procrastination problems and strengthen the academic failure tolerance of students.

  • ChatGPT is causing significant reverberations across all sectors of our society, and this holds true for the field of education as well. However, scholarly and societal discussions regarding ChatGPT in academic settings have primarily focused on issues such as plagiarism, with relatively limited research on the positive effects of utilizing generative AI. Additionally, amidst the educational crisis of the post-COVID era, there is a growing recognition of the need to enhance academic engagement. In light of these concerns, we investigated how academic engagement varies based on students' levels of ChatGPT literacy and examined whether students' academic confidence and perceived academic competence serve as mediators between ChatGPT literacy and academic engagement. An analysis using SPSS was conducted on the data collected from 406 college students. The results showed that ChatGPT literacy had a positive effect on academic engagement, and academic confidence mediated the relationship between ChatGPT literacy and academic engagement. Also, when the mediating effect of perceived academic competence was significant only when it was serially mediated. Based on these findings, we discussed the theoretical contributions of identifying the theoretical mechanism between ChatGPT literacy and academic engagement. In addition, practical implications regarding the importance of ChatGPT literacy education were described.

  • The study set out to identify the number of types of parental attitude profiles and their characteristics, as perceived by adolescents. The study also examined whether predictor variables (parent life satisfaction and self-esteem) influence parenting attitude profiles and whether these profiles, in turn, influence adolescent academic engagement and academic helplessness. The sample consisted of data on 2,590 adolescents and their parents from the 2018 Korean Children and Youths Panel Survey (KCYPS). The adolescents were in the first grade of middle school. Using Mplus, the author applied latent profile analysis to identify the parenting attitude profiles and predictor and outcome variables associated with these profiles. Three profiles were identified based on major features: (1) coercion-inconsistency (8.3%), (2) general (47.3%), and (3) warmth-autonomy support (44.4%). Parent life satisfaction and self-esteem predicted the classification of the profiles. Also, the parental profiles identified the level of adolescent academic engagement and academic helplessness. The findings have important implications for family policies and practices given the significance of parent psychological status, particularly life satisfaction and self-esteem, on their adolescent children's academic engagement and academic helplessness.

  • This study examined the influence of the nutrient intake status, dietary habit, and academic stress of elementary school children on their academic achievement. Two-hundred and twenty-four fifth-graders in Bucheon-si, Gyeonggido were surveyed. The study included the 24 hr-recall, anthropometric measurement, assessment of stress level and academic achievement. The subjects were normal in height, weight and Rohrer index, but higher percentage of underweight was seen in girls and vice versa in boys. The overall nutrient intake and dietary habits were fairly good, but Ca and folate intake was less than 75% KDRIs and dietary habits of boys were inferior. Academic stress level of all the subjects was not high. In terms of academic performance and its relations with nutrient intake, the more the amount of nutrient intake, the higher the academic performance. Especially, it was true for the energy, protein, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and n-6 fatty acid intakes (p < 0.05). The overall academic performance was higher for those who eating-out less frequently. Children with higher comprehensive dietary habit scores have shown better academic performance (p < 0.05). Less stress implied to those shown higher academic achievement while those with relatively poor academic performance showed high stress level since their grade did not improve as much as they anticipated. In conclusion, the academic achievement was higher for those who have a better nutritional status, better dietary habits, and lower stress levels. Therefore, it is critical for nutritionists, parents, and teachers to improve the nutritional status and dietary habits as well as to help them manage their stress levels, which will eventually contribute to an enhanced academic performance.

  • This study indicates there is a need for delivering key academic vocabulary to students with multi-cultural backgrounds before they enter middle school and thus select academic vocabularies necessary for satisfactory middle school education and self-directed learning methods using a more focused selected academic vocabulary list. To this end, we first examine the vocabularies appearing in the main Korean language, math, social studies and science textbooks used in the first year of middle school and compile the most practical academic vocabulary list. Then we offer a selection method for the main academic vocabulary from these compiled vocabularies. We also propose a self-directed vocabulary learning model for using these selected academic vocabularies and an academic vocabulary learning application as a prototype. As a result, students with multi-cultural backgrounds will be able to adapt to middle school education more quickly when they learn the necessary academic vocabularies on their own using the academic vocabulary learning application.
