  • Recently, with the growth of various sensor applications, the need of wireless communication systems which can support variable data rate is increasing. Therefore, advanced ZigBee (AZB) systems that support the various data rate under 250 kbps are proposed. However, the preamble structure for AZB systems causes the complexity increase of time synchronization circuits. In this paper, we propose preamble structure and time synchronization algorithm which can solve the problem of the complexity increase of time synchronization circuits. Implementation results show that the proposed time synchronizer for AZB systems include the logic slices of 6.92 k and, which are reduced at the rate of 62.3% compared with existing architecture.

  • Recently, with the growth of various sensor applications, the need of wireless communication systems which can support variable data rate is increasing. IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN system using 2.45 GHz frequency band is very popular for the sensor applications. However, since LR-WPAN only supports the data rate of 250 kbps, it has a limit to be applied to various sensor networks. Therefore, we define the preamble structure which can support the data rates of 31.25 kbps, 62.5 kbps, 125 kbps, and present the low-complexity hardware architecture for time synchronizer based on double-correlation algorithm which can resist the CFO (carrier frequency offset). Implementation results show that the proposed time synchronizer include the logic slice of 18.36 K and four DSP48s, which are reduced at the rate of 79.1% and 99.4%, respectively, compared with existing architecture.

  • Purpose: Accurate monitoring of information from various agricultural vehicles is one of the most important factors for appropriate management strategy of field operations. While there has been a number of study and design on applications of sensors and actuators for data acquisition and control system in tractor, incompatibility between various customized hardware and software has become a major obstacle to the universal deployment in real field operation. International standard for implementation of electronic control unit (ECU) in agricultural vehicles has becoming a mandatory requirement for inter-operation compatibility in the international trade of agricultural vehicle industries. The ISO 11783 standard is basically based upon well known communication technology designated using the controller area network (CAN) bus. While CAN bus could provide 1.0 Mbps of communication speed, the standard only recommended 250 kbps. Methods: This study presents the implementation and evaluation of ISO 11783 for tractor electronic control units (TECU)with a higher transmission rate from multiple ECU than 250 kbps. Throughput and loss rate of the developed prototype were calculated across manipulated bus load for laboratory experimental tests, and the maximum requirement of transmission rate by ISO 11873 was satisfied with lower than 60% of bus load. Results: Field tests with a TECU implemented to process messages from global positioning system (GPS) receiver resulted that the root mean square error of position information was lower than 4 m with 0.5 m/s as a travelling speed. Conclusions: Results of this study represent the utilization of the international standard ISO 11783 to providepractical developments in terms with the inter-operability of TECU.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme for voice data retransmission in LR-WPAN to support the required QoS even in the severe channel error environments. In IEEE 802.15.4a, as the user data rate is supported up to 850Kbps, the voice streaming data can be transferred more easily. In this research, we study the beacon-enabled mode in IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN standard with 250Kbps data rate. In the proposed scheme, special slots are dynamically assigned for retransmission of the packet that fails during a voice service, and in the severe channel error environments a time diversity is acquired. Analytical results show that the proposed scheme is more robust and achieves a much higher throughput than the previous protocol in LR-WPAN.

  • In this paper, an advanced ZigBee (AZB) system for internet-of-things (IoT) applications is proposed which can support various data rates from 31.25 Kbps to 2 Mbps, and the implementation results of the AZB baseband processor are presented. Repetition coding for 32-chip direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) symbol is applied for low rates under 250 Kbps to extend the coverage. Convolution coding, puncturing, and interleaving for non-DSSS symbol are performed for high rates from 500 Kbps to 2 Mbps for multi-media services. Simulation results show that the coverage increases at the rate of 51.8-77.3% for various environments compared with IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee. AZB baseband processor was implemented in 180 nm CMOS process and total gate counts are 260K with the size of $5.8mm^2$.

  • In this paper, we implemented the vocoder of variable rate by applying the SOLA-B algorithm to the G.729A to the TMS320C5416 in real-time. This method using the SOLA-B algorithm is that it is reduced the duration of the speech in encoding and is played at the speed of normal by extending the duration of the speech in decoding. But the method applied to the existed G.729A and SOLA-B algorithm is caused the loss of speech quality in G.729A which is not reflected about length variation of speech. Therefore the proposed method is encoded according as it is modified the structure of LSP quantization table about the length of speech is reduced by using the SOLA-B algorithm. The vocoder of variable rate by applying the G.729A and SOLA-B algorithm is represented the maximum complexity of 10.2MIPS about encoder and 2.8MIPS about decoder in 8kbps transmission rate. Also it is evaluated 17.3MIPS about encoder, 9.9MIPS about decoder in 6kbps and 18.5MIPS about encoder, 11.1MIPS about decoder in 4kbps according to the transmission rate. The used memory is about program ROM 9.7kwords, table ROM 4.69kwords, RAM 5.2kwords. The waveform of output is showed by the result of C simulator and Bit Exact. Also, the result of MOS test for evaluation of speech quality of the vocoder of variable rate which is implemented in real-time, it is estimated about 3.68 in 4kbps.

  • In this paper, we combine AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) with MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) multiplexing to improve the throughput performance of AMC in Next Generation Communication Mobile Systems. In addition, we propose a system that adopts STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) in the combined system. The received SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is improved by adopting STD techniques and an improved SNR increases a probability of selecting MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level that supports higher data rate. The computer simulation is performed in flat Rayleigh fading channel. The results show that higher throughput is achieved by AMC-TD schemes. AMC-STTD scheme shows about 250kbps increase in throughput. And AMC-STD with 2 transmit antennas achieves about 420 kbps throughput improvement over the conventional AMC at 9dB SNR.

  • LED-to-LED VLC is a technology that uses LEDs as both a transmitter and a receiver unlike the typical VLCs. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate a micro LED-to-LED VLC using Micro LED. We tested all the possible VLC cases using red, yellow, green, blue, and white color LED as both a transmitter and a receiver, and measured rise time and SNR. Then we calculated channel capacity depending on the LED color sets. Our experimental results show that the best channel capacity is 125 kbps when the transmitter micro LED was blue and the receiver LED was green. We also measured BERs of VLCs using OFDM signal, and we showed a successful micro LED-to-LED VLC upto 250 kbps.

  • We propose a novel algorithm for fractal video sequence coding, based on the circular prediction mapping (CPM), in which each range block is approximated by a domain block in the circularly previous frame. In our approach, the size of the domain block is set to be same as that of the range block for exploiting the high temporal correlation between the adjacent frames, while most other fractal coders use the domain block larger than the range block. Therefore the domain-range mapping in the CPM is similar to the block matching algorithm in the motion compensation techniques, and the advantages of this similarity are discussed. Also we show that the CPM can be combined with non-contractive inter-frame mapping (NCIM), improving the performance of the fractal sequence coder further. The computer simulation results on real image sequences demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides very promising performance at low bit-rate, ranging from 40 Kbps to 250 Kbps.

  • In this paper, we are performance analysis of IEEE 802.15.4b LR-WAPN(Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network; Zigbee) system noncoherent receivers at 915MHz under Jamming. IEEE 802.15.4b concerns itself with devices at 915MHz, which employ a higher data rate of up to 250 kbps, and which use O-QPSK(Offset Quradrature Phase Shift Keying modulation with DSSS(Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum). Communication between devices can still be hampered by the presence of interferers outside the network, whether the interference be intentional or not. Hence the receivers can not have stable receiving condition due to worse BER. To solve this problem, we present a mere stabilized receiver system of using noncoherent detection. In this paper, we look instead at the effect of jamming, i.e. intentional interference, on the BER performance of IEEE 802.15.4 devices.
