Measurement and Analysis of Electric and Magnetic Fields near a Transmission Tower (송전철탑 주변에서 전장과 자장의 측정과 분석)

  • In this paper, measurement and analysis of ELF electric and magnetic fields due to a transmission line have been carried out and the power frequency field strength measuring system is designed. In order to evaluate electric and magnetic fields associated with 60 Hz electric power transmission and distribution lines, the actual survey near a transmission tower has been made and analyzed. It may be inferred from these results that the maximum electric and magnetic fields strength in the vicinity of a line tower do not exceed 3.5[kV/m] and 20[${\mu}T$]. The results of the field measurements agree with limits and guidelines recommended by various authorized international institutes.

  • In this paper, a novel planar spiral antenna of multi-tabs is proposed for wireless power transmission system based on low frequency magnetic inductive coupling. The proposed antenna has higher transmission efficiency than conventional antennas such a rectangular spiral antenna and a spiral antenna. Also, it has a useful property of uniform power transmission in the region of the antenna aperture. For verification, a transmitting antenna and a receiving one for a wireless power transmission system using magnetic inductive coupling of 132 kHz low frequency are designed and tested. The transmitting antenna has three-tabs spiral of unequal-space for higher uniform magnetic coupling in the antenna aperture. For reducing the receiving antenna size, two receiving antennas of unequal space two-tabs on one-side and series double sides as well are designed, respectively. From measurement, transmission efficiency of the proposed antennas is improved up to $3{\sim}10$ dB compared to conventional antennas.

  • High frequency switching converters are becoming more popular because of several benefits which are essential in power conversion system. This paper introduces a high speed digital controller using TMS320C40 DSP chip which can be used for high frequency switching converters and demonstrates its performance by operating three-phase PWM AC/DC converter with unity power factor at 20kHz sampling frequency. TMS320C40 DSP chip operates with 40-ns instruction cycle times and is capable of 275 MOPS. The running time of real time control loop at the three-phase PWM AC/DC converter is $44.6{\mu}sec$.

  • In the present paper, the characteristics of Mega-Flux$^{(R)}$, JNEX-Core$^{(R)}$, amorphous and ferrite cores are compared to the inductor of buck-boost converters for Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Core losses are analyzed at the condition of 10 kHz sine wave excitations, and permeability fluctuations vs. temperature and magnetizing force will be analyzed and discussed. Under the specifications of the buck-boost converter for 20 kW THS-II, the power inductor will be designed with Mega-Flux$^{(R)}$ and JNEX-Core$^{(R)}$, and informative simulation results will be provided with respect to dc bias characteristics, core and copper losses.

  • Flue gas from fossil fuel combustion is the main source of air pollution. It is recognized that $SO_2$ and $NO_x$, (sum of NO and $NO_2$) react with $H_2O$ and $O_2$ in atmosphere and convert precursors of acid rain. Streamer corona process using pulse power is one of the effective methods to remove these gases from stack. For this, pulse generator with 160 kV of output peak voltage, 0.3 ${\mu}s$ of pulse width and 120Hz of pulse repetition rate is developed. This paper shows the pulse compression characteristics to obtain optimum parameters for basic system design.

  • Facilities of 76skV Substation(S/S) play an important role in electric power supply grids. Various power facilities of 765kV S/S might be damaged enormously if a strong earthquake occurs. In an effort to mitigate possible earthquake disasters, KEPRI (Korea Electric Power Research Institute) set forth plans to verify seismic safety of the facilities of 765kV S/S. To accomplish the task, an earthquake monitoring systems is constructed at four 765kV S/S sites(Shin-AnSung, Shin-TaeBaek, Shin-SeoSan and Shin-GaPyung). Data from these earthquake monitoring stations are being transmitted via satellite communication. Currently, KEPRI is operating an earthquake monitoring system in freefield of Shin-SeoSan S/S (NSS) tentatively, Also, the data from NSS is preliminarily analyzed using the horizontal to vertical (H/V) spectrum ratio method. The method of H/V spectrum ratio has been used to infer site amplification without previous knowledge of near surface geology. The results of data analysis shorts good S/N ratio and amplification of 20-25 Hz by site effect. In the near future, the accumulated data is expected to provide a basis for assessing and predicting any damages to integrity of 765kV S/S facilities by earthquakes.

  • Contactless systems use electromagnetic fields to transport power from railway substation to the traction system. In Korea Railroad Research Institute, KRRI, the RIPS (Railway Inductive Power Supply), has been developed. The RIPS is based on a contactless transformer with a fixed coreless primary and a moving core, compared with E shape and U shape, in the secondary. The primary coil is supply with 20 kHz current which produces a magnetic flux in the secondary core. Further this flux induces a current in the secondary coil.

  • 본 논문에서는 자기 공명 방식을 이용한 10W급 무선 전력 전송 시스템을 제안하였다. 기존의 Mhz 대역의 자기 공명 방식과는 달리 본 논문에서는 100kHz 대역의 주파수를 이용한 시스템을 제안하여 송수신 코일 간의 거리와 효율을 증가시켰다. 본 논문에서 사용된 송수신 코일은 가로 세로 20cm로 크기와 모양이 같은 동일한 구조로 제작하였고, 20cm의 거리에서 약 50%의 전송 효율을 나타내었다. 수신기는 가변 커패시터를 사용하여 거리에 따라 달라지는 공진 주파수를 수동으로 찾을 수 있도록 설계하였다.

Sputtering Technique of Magnesium Oxide Thin Film for Plasma Display Panel Applications

  • A high rate deposition sputtering process of magnesium oxide thin film in oxide mode has been developed using a 20 kW unipolar pulsed power supply. The power supply was operated at a maximum constant voltage of 500 V and a constant current of 40 A. The pulse repetition rate and the duty were changed in the ranges of $10\sim50$ kHz and $10\sim60%$, respectively. The deposition rate increased with rising incident power to the target. Maximum incident power to the magnesium target was obtained by the control of frequency, duty and current. The deposition rate of a moving state was 9 nm m/min at the average power of 1.5 kW. This result shows higher deposition rate than any other previous work involving reactive sputtering in oxide mode. The thickness uniformities over the entire substrate area of $982mm{\times}563mm$ were observed at the processing pressure of $2.8\sim9.5$ mTorr. The thickness distribution was improved at lower pressure. This technique is proposed for application to a high through-put sputtering system for plasma display panels.

  • The electronic fluorescent lamp ballast can promote the lighting efficiency up to 10-20% by driving high frequency with frequency transformation technique, and can completely eliminate the flickering phenomenon occurring from 60Hz frequency. The electronic ballast provides very high energy saving effects for it has high power factor than traditional ballast, and it is convenient to use, can extend the life cycle of fluorescent lamp for it starts at once by driving with high frequency. However electronic ballast needs high price, and it has the bad stability and reliability. This paper provides illumination systems, which drive dozens of fluorescent lamps at the same time, to overcome these shortcomings of electronic ballast and utilize the advantage of electronic ballast.
