Analysis of the Vibratory Characteristic of the Adult's and Baby's Brain Model (성인 뇌와 유아 뇌 모델의 진동 특성 해석)

  • Using three dimensional finite element model of the human brain, vibratory characteristics of the human brain according to vibratory direction was analyzed. From this analysis 9, 14Hz and 2, 3Hz natural frequencies were calculated for adult's and baby's brain model respectively. Regardless of the vibratory direction relatively high shear stress, pressure and von Mises stress variation except acceleration were detected in the baby brain model. At each natural frequencies, adult's model showed relatively high stress level in the region of lower limb control area compared with upper limb control area at 14Hz natural frequency.

  • The numerical simulation using the Lattice Boltzmann Method in the field of computational fluid dynamics becomes wider in the engineering applications because of its simplicity of update rules compared to the conventional Navier-Stokes solvers. Here, a two-dimensional D2Q9 LB model is numerically tested with a few new computational treatment on the free surface. The single relaxation time is applied under the gravitational field where applied only in the higher density fluid because of its big density difference. At the free surface, the reconstruction techniques in combination with boundary conditions is adopted in order to get some distribution function coming into the fluid site from the air one, and surface tension, early stable test for the gravitional field is considered in it. With the implementation of the gravitational profile, conserving the overall mass and grid dependency are observed during the calculations and freesurface advance track is well captured with an experiment.

  • This paper concerns the singular thermal stresses at the interface corner between the elastic fiber and the viscoelastic matrix of a two-dimensional unidirectional laminate model induced during cooling from cure temperature down to room temperature. Time-domain boundary element method is employed to investigate the nature of residual thermal stresses at the interface. Numerical results show that very large stress gradients are present at the interface corner and such stress singularity might lead to local yielding or fiber-matrix debonding.

  • We report an implementation of the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey at a site that corresponds to a ruined castle. The objective of the survey was to characterise buried archaeological structures such as walls and tiles in Van Khan Tooril's Ruin, Mongolia, by 2D and 3D GPR techniques. GPR datasets were acquired in an area 10mby 9 m, with 10 cm line spacing. Two datasets were collected, using GPR with 500MHz and 800MHz frequency antennas. In this paper, we report the use of instantaneous parameters to detect archaeological targets such as tile, brick, and masonry by polarimetric GPR. Radar polarimetry is an advanced technology for extraction of target scattering characteristics. It gives us much more information about the size, shape, orientation, and surface condition of radar targets. We focused our interpretation on the strongest reflections. The image is enhanced by the use of instantaneous parameters. Judging by the shape and the width of the reflections, it is clear that moderate to high intensity response in instantaneous amplitude corresponds to brick and tiles. The instantaneous phase map gave information about the location of the targets, which appeared as discontinuities in the signal. In order to increase our ability to interpret these archaeological targets, we compared the GPR datasets acquired in two orthogonal survey directions. A good correlation is observed for the alignments of reflections when we compare the two datasets. However, more reflections appear in the north-south survey direction than in the west-east direction. This is due to the electric field orientation, which is in the horizontal plane for north-south survey directions and the horizontally polarised component of the backscattered high energy is recorded.

Investigation of Structural and Electrical properties of Self-seed layered PLZT(9/65/35) thin films deposited by sol-gel method (Sol-gel법으로 증착한 PLZT(9/65/35) 박막의 Self-seed layer에 따른 구조 및 특성)

  • Self-seed 층을 이용한 PLZT(9/65/35), 강유전체 박막을 Sol-Gel 법을 이용해 Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si 기판 위에 증착한 후, Self-seed 층에 의한 PLZT(9/65/35) 박막의 구조적, 전기적 특성을 고찰하였다. Seed 층을 도입하지 않은 PLZT 박막의 경우 다결정 상으로 형성되는 것을 알 수 있었으며, seed 층을 도입한 PLZT 박막은 (110) 방향으로 우선 배향됨을 알 수 있었다. 증착된 PLZT(9/65/35) 박막의 유전율 및 유전손살은 10kHz에서 유전율 205, 유전손살 0.029 이었으며, Self-seed layer를 도입한 PLZT 박막의 경우 seed layer를 도입하지 않은 PLZT 박막보다 낮은 온도에서 결정화 되는 것을 관찰 할 수 있었다. Self-seed layer가 도입된 PLZT(9/65/35) 박막의 경우 잔류분극 ($P_r$) 값은 $9.1{\mu}C/cm^2$, 항전계($E_c$)는 47 kV/cm을 나타내었다.

Acoustic Band Structures in Two-dimensional Phononic Crystals with a Square Lattice in Water (수중에서 정방형 격자를 갖는 2차원 포노닉 크리스탈의 음향 밴드 구조)

  • Phononic crystals are composite materials consisting of a periodic arrangement of scattering inclusions in a host material. One of the most important properties of phononic crystals is the existence of band gaps, i.e., ranges of frequencies at which acoustic waves cannot propagate through the structure. The present study aims to investigate theoretically and experimentally the acoustic band structures in two-dimensional (2D) phononic crystals consisting of periodic square arrays of stainless steel solid cylinders with a diameter of 1 mm and a lattice constant of 1.5 mm in water. The theoretical dispersion relation that depicts the relationship between the frequency and the wave vector was calculated along the ${\Gamma}X$ direction of the first Brillouin zone using the finite element method to predict the band structures in the 2D phononic crystals. The transmission and the reflection coefficients were measured in the 2D phononic crystals with 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 layers of stainless steel cylinders stacked in the perpendicular direction to propagation at normal incidence. The theoretical dispersion relation exhibited five band gaps at frequencies below 2 MHz, the first gap appearing around a frequency of 0.5 MHz. The location and the width of the band gaps experimentally observed in the transmission and the reflection coefficients appeared to coincide well with those determined from the theoretical dispersion relation.

  • EHMACC and EHPC programs written in VAX version to calculate the tight-binding extended Huckel method is converted into the micro-soft fortran available to PC. The band calculation of LaNiO3 unit cell and extended ($2{\times}2{\times}1$) cell with perovskite structure is made by the PC/386 and PC/486. The calculation is also made for the DOS and the COOP. It is supposed that the electronic property of $LaNiO_3$ is semiconductor along to the ${\Gamma}{\rightarrow}H,\;H{\rightarrow}N,\;and\;N{\rightarrow}{\Gamma}(2D)$ direction with band gap about 0u.35 eV, while metal property in ${\Gamma}{\rightarrow}P\;and\;P{\rightarrow}N(3D)$ direction. The oxygen atom property in $LaNiO_3$ is more effectively affected by oxygen atom position than defect of nickel atom.

Scalable Stereoscopic Video Coding for Heterogeneous Environments (이질적인 환경을 위한 스케러블 스테레오 영상 부호화)

  • In this paper, we propose a new stereoscopic video coding approach for heterogeneous consumer devices by exploiting the concept of spatio-temporal scalability. The proposed method uses MPEG-2 standard for coding the left or main sequence and an enhanced compatible coding scheme for predicting the P- and B-type of frames of the right or auxiliary sequence. The enhanced compatible coding scheme predicts matching block by interpolating both two forward and backward motion predicted macroblocks and disparity predicted macroblock. To provide flexible stereo video service, we define both a temporally scalable layer and a spatially scalable layer for each eye-view. The experimental results show the efficiency of proposed coding scheme by comparison with already known methods and the advantages of disparity estimation in terms of scalability overhead. According to the experimental results, we expect the proposed functionalities will play a key role in establishing highly flexible stereo video service for ubiquitous computing environment where devices and network connections are heterogeneous.

Development of Abdominal Compression Belt and Evaluation of the Efficiency for the Reduction of Respiratory Motion in SBRT (체부 정위방사선치료 시 호흡운동 감소를 위한 복부 압박기구 개발 및 유용성 평가)

  • Purpose: It's essential to minimize the tumor motion and identify the exact location of the lesions to achieve the improvement in radiation therapy efficiency during SBRT. In this study, we made the established compression belt to reduce respiratory motion and evaluated the usefulness of clinical application in SBRT. Materials and Methods: We analyzed the merits and demerits of the established compression belt to reduce the respiratory motion and improved the reproducibility and precision in use. To evaluate the usefulness of improved compression belt for respiratory motion reduction in SBRT, firstly, we reviewed the spiral CT images acquired in inspiration and expiration states of 8 lung cancer cases, respectively, and analyzed the three dimensional tumor motion related to respiration. To evaluate isodose distribution, secondly, we also made the special phantom using EBT2 film (Gafchronic, ISP, USA) and we prepared the robot (Cartesian Robot-2 Axis, FARARCM4H, Samsung Mechatronics, Korea) to reproduce three dimensional tumor motion. And analysis was made for isodose curves and two dimensional isodose profiles with reproducibility of respiratory motion on the basis of CT images. Results: A respiratory motion reduction compression belt (Velcro type) that has convenient use and good reproducibility was developed. The moving differences of three dimensional tumor motion of lung cancer cases analyzed by CT images were mean 3.2 mm, 4.3 mm and 13 mm each in LR, AP and CC directions. The result of characteristic change in dose distribution using the phantom and rectangular coordinates robot showed that the distortion of isodose has great differences, mean length was 4.2 mm; the differences were 8.0% and 16.8% each for cranio-caudal and 8.1% and 10.9% each for left-right directions in underdose below the prescribed dose. Conclusion: In this study, we could develop the convenient and efficient compression belt that can make the organs' motion minimize. With this compression belt, we confirmed that underdose due to respiration can be coped with when CTV-PTV margins of mean 6 mm would be used. And we conclude that the respiratory motion reduction compression belt we developed can be used for clinical effective aids along with the gating system.

3D Model Retrieval using Distribution of Interpolated Normal Vectors on Simplified Mesh (간략화된 메쉬에서 보간된 법선 벡터의 분포를 이용한 3차원 모델 검색)

  • This paper proposes the direction distribution of surface normal vectors as a feature descriptor of three-dimensional models. Proposed the feature descriptor handles rotation invariance using a principal component analysis(PCA) method, and performs mesh simplification to make it robust and nonsensitive against noise addition. Our method picks samples for the distribution of normal vectors to be proportional to the area of each polygon, applies weight to the normal vectors, and applies interpolation to enhance discrimination so that the information on the surface with less area may be less reflected on composing a feature descriptor. This research measures similarity between models with a L1-norm in the probability density histogram where the distances of feature descriptors are normalized. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method has improved the retrieval performance described in an average normalized modified retrieval rank(ANMRR) by about 17.2% and the retrieval performance described in a quantitative discrimination scale by 9.6%~17.5% as compared to the existing method.
