Objectives This study was evaluated the effects of CSE the regulatory mechanism of NO and cytokines in the LPS-stimulated Raw 264.7 cells. Methods The Coicis Semen MeOH extract dissolved in EMEM for 1 hour prior to the addition of LPS(1${mu}g/ml$). The cell viability was measured by MTT assay, and Nitric Oxide production was monitored by measuring the nitrite content in culture medium. The levels of cytokine and PGE2 were analyzed by sandwich immunoassays. Results CSE inhibited the production of NO (0.03 and 0.1 mg/ml), $TNF-{\alpha}$ (0.03 and 0.1 mg/ml), $IL-1{\beta}$ (0.03 and 0.1 mg/ml), IL-6 (0.03, 0.1 mg/ml) and PGE2(0.03 and 0.1 mg/ml) in Raw 264.7 cells activated with LPS(lipopolysaccharide). Conclusion According to the results above, Coicis Semen can produce anti-inflammatory effect, which may play a role in adjunctive therapy in Gram-negative bacterial infections.

Methods After the treatment of Taraxaci Herba MeOH extract dissolved in EMEM for 1 hour prior to the addition of LPS ($1\;{\mu}g/ml$), cell viability was measured by MTT assay, Nitric Oxide production was monitored by measuring the nitrite content in culture medium. In Raw 264.7 cells activated with lipopolysaccharide. Conclusions According to the results above, Taraxaci Herba can produce anti-inflammatory effect, which may play a role in adjunctive therapy in Gram-negative bacterial infections.

We screened a small molecular library that was designed and independently synthesized in vitro and found a new drug (MY-03-01) that is active against ovarian cancer. We established that MY-03-01 effectively inhibited SKOV-3 cell survival in a dose-dependent manner, based on cell viability rates, and that it not only induced SKOV-3 apoptosis by itself, but also did so synergistically with paclitaxel. Secondly, when MY-03-01 was applied at $40{\mu}M$, its hemolytic activity was less than 10%, compared with the control, and there was almost no damage to nor mal cells at this concentration. In addition, we used DAPI staining and flow cytometry to show that MY-03-01 could significantly induce apoptosis of SKOV-3 cells. Finally, we found that MY-03-01 likely induced SKOV-3 apoptosis by activating caspase3 and caspase9 through the mitochondrial pathway.

We have investigated surface photovoltage characteristics of InGaAs grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method on semi-insulating GaAs. The splitted SPV signals from the substrate and epilayer were observed. The band gap energy of InGaAs was about 1.376 eV, The In composition(x) was determined by Pan's composition formula. The photovoltage gradually decreases with increasing frequency. This is because the transfer of charge from the surface states reduces. From the temperature dependent SPV measurement, we obtained Varshni and temperature coefficients. In spectrum of etched sample at 300 K, the 'A' peak below $E_o(GaAs)$ is related with residual impurity during sample growth.

The $0.97MgTiO_3-0.03SrTiO_3$ ceramics with $B_2O_3$(10wt%) were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties were investigated with sintering temperature by XRD and SEM. According to the X-ray diffraction patterns of the $0.97MgTiO_3-0.03SrTiO_3$ ceramics with $B_2O_3$(10wt%), the ilmenite $MgTiO_3$ and perovskite $SrTiO_3$ structures were coexisted and secondary phase $MgTi_2O_5$ were appeared. Increasing the sintering temperature. the grain size was increased. In the case of $0.97MgTiO_3-0.03SrTiO_3$ ceramics with $B_2O_3$(10wt%), dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were $13.52{\sim}18.13,\;32750{\sim}51736GHz$, $-15.78{\sim}25.64ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between knowledge, self-efficacy and quality of life of patients suffering from rheumatic arthritis. The data were collected from 100 rheumatic arthritis patients 1 university hospital, K rheumatic clinic in kwang-ju city for 20 days from March 2 to March 22, 1999, by means of questionnaires. The instruments used in this study were the knowledge scale developed by Kim, the self-efficacy scale developed by Long et al and the quality of life scale developed by Rho. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and Stepwise Multiple Regression by using the SAS program. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The total mean score of knowledge was 15.01(SD${\pm}$3.08), In self-efficacy, the total mean score was 1030.40(SD${\pm}$233.42), In quality of life, the total mean score was 135.19(SD${\pm}$11.07). 2. The relationship between general characteristics and knowledge were significant difference in sex(t=19.03, p=.00), occupation(F=2.34, p=.03), types of exercise (F=2.95, p=.0.3), and time of exercise(F=3.20, p.=02). 3. The relationship between general characteristics and self-efficacy were significant difference in religion(F=2.75, p=.04), in monthly salary(F=3.64, p=.01), in occupation(F=2.30, p=.03), in period of rheumatic arthritis(F=2.70, F=.03), in time of exercise(F=3.77, P=.01), and in effectiveness of exercise (F=4.56, p= .02). 4. The relationship between general characteristics and quality of life were significant difference in age(F=3.36, p=.01), monthly income(F=3.11, p=.02), types of housing(t=4.93, p=.02), arid time of exercise(F=3.03, p=.03). 5. There was not significant correlation between the subjects knowledge and quality of life. 6. There was significant correlation between the self-efficacy and quality of life(r=462, p<.011). 7. The main factor influencing on quality of life was self-efficacy(21.4%).

A study was conducted to obtain acid tolerant and superior Rhizobium meliloti strain for alfalfa on hilly acid soils. With host plant, eight isolates of R, meliloti selected in the vicinity of Milyang were evaluated for their ability to establish symbiotic effectiveness in acidified tube culture medium and vermiculite pot with different urea levels. Among isolates "YA03" was characterized for the ability to manifest to acid tolerance in three different soils of which pH were 5.0, 6.0, and 7.5. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Of eight isolates "YA03" and "YA09" performed nodule in the tube medium of pH5.0, and in the symbiotic effectiveness YA03 was superior to others. 2. Alfalfa growth and $N_2-fixing$ activity by the inoculation of "YA03" isolate were better than others at the level of urea 1.25mM as well as nonurea. 3. Application of urea with inoculation of "YA03" islate to alfalfa was one of the effective factors for symbiotic effectiveness. 4. In infertile soil of pH5.0 inoculation of R. meliloti "YA03" to alfalfa caused the increase of shoot dry matter of 320% as compared to the control, and the total amount of yield was 131% as much yield in moderate fertile soil of pH7.5. Finally R. meliloti "YA03" isolate was selected as an acid tolerant strain.

Germination rate of encapsulated somatic embryos shelved significant differences under different concentrations of AgN03. The highest germination rate of 81.2% was found on MS medium withouthormones mixed with 10 mg/1 of AgN03. In vitro vermiculite planted with encapsulated embryostreated with 10 mg/1 of AgN03 induced 24.7% germination rate, and vermiculite planted with encap-sulated embryos treated with 40 mg/1 or 80 mg/1 of AgNO, induced no germination at all.

This paper deals with the relationship between the order structure and topological structure in the historical point of view. We first investigate how the order structure has developed along with the set theory and logic in the second half of the nineteenth century. After the general topology has emerged in the beginning of the twentieth century, two disciplines of the order theory and topology give each other a great deal of effect for their development via various dualities, compactifications by maximal filter spaces and Alexandroff's specialization order, which form eventually a fundamental setting for the development of the category theory or functor theory.

An exopolysaccharide-producing microalgal dinoflagellate was isolated from a red-tide bloom and des­ignated strain KG03. A bacteria-free culture of strain KG03 was achieved using a modified wash with phototaxis and antibiotic treatment. Combined treatment with neomycin and cephalosporin was the most effective for eliminating the bacteria associated with the microalgae. Strain KG03 was identified as Gyrodinium impudicum by analyzing the ITS regions of the 5.8S rDNA, 18S rDNA, morphological phenotype and fatty acid composition. The exopolysaccharide production and cell growth in a 300-ml photobioreactor were increased 2.7- and 2.4-fold, respectively, compared with that in a flask culture at the first isolation step.
