  • Background: This study investigated the structural relationships among justice, test anxiety, and school reliability s non-face-to-face tests of dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey was conducted with 267 dental hygiene students. The survey items included general characteristics, opinions on evaluation, the fairness of non-face-to-face tests (distributive, procedural, and interactional justice), school satisfaction, and school reliability. For statistical analysis, independent-sample t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and structural modeling analyses were performed. Results: Among factors that directly affected distributive justice and reliability towards non-face-to-face tests, the higher the interactional justice (β=0.401, p<0.001) and distributive justice (β=0.232, p=0.002) levels, the higher the school satisfaction. The higher the school satisfaction (β=0.606, p<0.001) and procedural justice (β=0.299, p<0.001) levels, the higher the perceived reliability of the school. Factors that indirectly affected school reliability included interactional justice (β=0.243, p=0.010) and distributive justice (β=0.141, p=0.010). Interactional justice (β=0.592, p=0.010) and distributive justice (β=0.208, p=0.010) were the factors affecting school satisfaction. Moreover, factors that influenced school reliability were distributive justice (β=0.56, p=0.010), interactional justice (β=0.332, p=0.010), procedural justice (β=0.229, p=0.010), and distributive justice (β=0.116, p=0.010). Conclusions: Students will trust and be satisfied with schools when schools and professors sufficiently provide information on face-to-face tests and ensure proper procedures to achieve reasonable grades as rewards for exerted time and effort. Furthermore, this study provides a reference base for developing a variety of content for fair, non-face-to-face tests, thereby allowing students to trust their schools.

  • The purpose of this study is to acknowledge how influences of abuse and neglect affect juvenile delinquencies. We created this study by surveying 180 random students from April 1, 2013 to August 5, 2013. Frequency analysis, t-test, and correlation analysis were used for data analysis in this study. The significance level of empirical analysis was verified as 5%. As the result, First, physical abuse depends on the age difference Second, emotional abuse depends on the lower ranked students. Third, The more often the sexual abuse, the more frequent the seriousness of juvenile delinquencies occurred. Also, Fourth, neglect had a significant difference in religion. The religion that was related to neglect is in this order: Christian being the most, non-religious, others and Catholic being the least. This study showed that compared to physical abuse, emotional abuse was a critical factor of having juvenile delinquencies. This result will be used for the prevention of juvenile delinquencies later on.

  • The aim of this study was to describe Enneagram personality types, ego-resilience and to investigate the effects of ego-resilience on college adaptation in nursing and health care related students. The subjects were 623 students in 1st and 2nd grade. The data were collected from October 7 to 23, 2014 and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, multiple regression with SPSS 19.0. A positive correlation was found ego-resilience and college adaptation with Enneagram personality types. Personality type 4 and 5 in Enneagram were the lowest level in ego-resilience and college adaptation. The strongest predictor of college adaptation was optimistic attitude in ego-resilience. Optimistic attitude, confidence, emotional control, and academic grades were explained 61.6% of the college adaptation based on multiple regression analysis. These findings indicate that it is necessary to increase ego-resilience according to Enneagram personality types for positive college adaptation.

  • We examine the extent to which students' performance relative to peers affects their career choice. Specifically, we analyze the relationship between a student's mathematics ranking in his/her school and the likelihood of choosing Mathematics and Science track in high school. Using a panel dataset of students in Seoul, we measure a student's performance using two variables: absolute performance and relative performance. The former measures a student's performance relative to the entire sample, while the latter measures performance relative to the student's peers in the same school. After controlling for test scores and other characteristics, we find that the students with a poor relative ranking are 11 percentage points less likely to choose the Mathematics and Science track. Relative performance affects girls more greatly than boys. Although relative performance affects a student's self-efficacy and class participation, our accounting exercise suggests that this channel accounts for only 12 percent of the impact, implying that students may respond to the relative ranking mostly due to other factors, such as strategic consideration to perform well in college applications.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of sports vision training on baseball player's visual performance and baseball records. Methods: All subjects were 21 males of high school baseball players, and they participated on eight weeks of sports vision training program. Pre- and post- test results were obtained for static and dynamic visual acuity, static and dynamic stereo acuity, distance and near phoria, fusional reserves, near point of convergence, contrast sensitivity, visual-reaction time. Results: Statical analysis indicated significant improvement in most of mentioned visual variables and baseball records (p<0.001). Conclusions: It can be concluded that the sports vision training program improves visual skills of baseball players, which could lead to improvement in the baseball records. Vison training will be a promotor for baseball player to enhance their performance if proper test instruments and training course is supplied.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in menu-layout preference for learners based on their demographics. The experiment was conducted in this manner: three class second grade and three class sixth grade elementary school students were separated by sex, grade, age and cognitive style such as field-dependent and field-independent. They were asked to choose which menu layouts they preferred or did not prefer out of 6 different types. The results of the research are as follows: First, there were no differences in sex, grade and cognitive style for preferences in the menu layout but there were meaningful differences with regard to age. Second grade students preferred map-type layout, but sixth grade students preferred the type having a main menu across the top with a sub menu in roll over. Second, there was a difference with regard to age as to what they do not prefer. Overall, the results of this study suggest that the menu layout for a learning web site on the internet needs to be different according to their age.

  • With decreasing the number of high school graduates, it is vital for each college to maintain its enrollment number as well as to preserve its dropout rate in a lower level. It is true that all universities and colleges have experienced inevitable dropouts that were in fact more serious in 2 to 3-year colleges. There have been prior studies to examine what factors affected to students' dropout in various ways. However, no specific programs were employed to mitigate the rates of dropout. In this study, new encouraging program is introduced for the students who were not ready to study and isolated from classroom. The result showed that the program led to the GPA enhancement in larger number of participants. Nevertheless, the sustainablity of the program would be unclear unless it combines with other existing programs.

  • We carried out mathematics diagnostic tests for all first year engineering students at C University in Daejeon in 2008, covering precalculus and basic calculus. Then we divided into two classes such as regular and supplementary classes. The supplementary class students are lower 13% students. Then we gave extra classes for these students to support their basic and elementary calculus skills. As a result, these supplementary students received a meaningful accomplishment at the final exam. This paper analyzes the results and effects of various types of supplementary classes such as education by level, and proposes some strategies to enhance mathematics learning, particularly for under achieving first year engineering students.

  • In this study, students' perceptions on small group activities in science classes were investigated. The relationships among students' values of and attitudes toward small group activities, gender, prior achievement level, and personality were also studied, Subjects were 226 students from four middle schools in which group activities were frequently used in science classes. In their classes, groups were mainly formed by teacher on the basis of grade and student number, or by drawing lots. Many students were dissatisfied with the grouping methods, preferred to make a group based on their friendship, and hoped that there would be different levels of knowledge among the members. Regardless of their gender or prior achievement level, students perceived positively on small group activities. Students with higher agreeableness and extraversion had higher values of and positive attitudes toward small group activities. Among five personality variables studied, agreeableness was the only one that significantly explained both values of and attitudes toward small group activities.
