  • The life of studying abroad includes not only school life, but also various areas such as economy, social relationship, and culture, so the level of satisfaction in each area could be differently shown in each individual. Based on this critical mind, this study aims to analyze the satisfaction with life of studying abroad in the multidimensional perspective. To analyze this, a latent class analysis was applied to identify subgroups, and a multinomial logistic regression model was applied to verify factors influencing group classification. The results of the analysis could be summarized into two. First, there were sub-groups showing different satisfaction with life of studying abroad. The sub-groups showed different levels of satisfaction in five areas such as housing, economy, social relationship, study, and culture, which were not discerned in single dimension. Second, the classification of group was complexly influenced by academic factor, psychological/emotional factor, and environmental factor. Especially, the predictive factor had different influences on each sub-factor. Based on such results of this study, this study aims to seek for the practical and policy-level suggestions for improving foreign students' satisfaction with life of studying abroad.

  • This study aims to identify the mediating effect of school satisfaction in the effect of self-esteem on resilience, and to examine the relationship between brain function quotient and resilience. In this descriptive study, questionnaires and brainwaves were collected from 145 female high school students in Seoul from November 22 to December 23, 2012. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and three-step mediated regression analysis using SPSS 21.0. Among brain function quotients, stress resistance quotient were highly correlated with resilience, and both attention and brain quotient were significantly correlated with resilience. Moreover, school satisfaction showed the mediating effect in the effect of self-esteem on resilience. The findings suggest that brain function quotient, in specific, stress resistance quotient, should be considered in studies regarding resilience. Furthermore, predictor variables of resilience such as self-esteem and school satisfaction should be considered for preventive and therapeutic intervention to reduce various maladaptive problems in adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the variables of parenting styles and dependency on the smart phone affect college students' satisfaction to campus life, to seek the better ways for the college students to fit into the new environment, and to offer the practical tips based on our findings. In this study, we applied the regression analysis to verify the relationship among the variables related to the satisfaction to university life and the mediating effect of dependency on the smart phone. The results of this study suggest that the positive rearing attitude, which is the subfactor of parenting styles, has a negative effect on the dependency on the smart phone, and that dependency on the smart phone has a negative effect on the satisfaction to college life. At the same time it is found out that the negative rearing attitude has a positive effect on dependency on the smart phone, and that dependency on the smart phone has a negative effect on the satisfaction to the college life. In addition, the dependency on the smart phone has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between the positive/negative rearing attitudes and dependency on the smart phone. Based on these findings, we recommended the better ways to improve college students' satisfaction to their college lives.

  • We attempted to confirm the current status of the use of mobile phones by soldiers, especially SNS, in today's situation where the use of mobile phones is completely allowed, and to reach an agreement for the use of functional SNS in military life. To this end, 189 students at the Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon were measured for SNS use motivation and life satisfaction, and the relationship between each sub-variable of SNS use motivation and satisfaction was analyzed. As a result, 3 out of 4 motives for using SNS had nothing to do with satisfaction, and rather, among the sub-variables, the pursuit of status showed a negative correlation with satisfaction. Therefore, the use of SNS to search for information or ideas should be encouraged. In addition, these findings prove that the vague belief that allowing SNS will increase the satisfaction of soldiers is not reasonable, suggesting that a careful approach is required to utilize functional SNS in the military.
