This study assessed an application of electrocoagulation (EC) for the removal of cobalt (Co) in radioactive liquid waste from nuclear power plant. The EC process is an electrochemical means to remove a contaminant in wastewater and a novel process to complement the disadvantage of chemical treatment and membrane process. Radioactive liquid waste has been produced from washing process of radio nuclide power plant cooling system. The EC process eliminates Co from the electrolyte within 10 min; in addition, the dewatered sludge produced in EC process is only 0.2 g. Therefore, the EC process is a promising technique for the removal of Co in radioactive liquid waste and volume reduction of wastes.

H$_2$SO$_4$ and citric acid were used as additives for the electrokinetic remediation experiment to increase removal efficiency of $^{137}$ Cs and $^{60}$ Co from the radioactive soil waste stored for more than 10 years. The average effluent velocity discharged from the elctrokinectic remediation experimental column was 2.0${\times}$10$^{-2}$ cm/min and the discharged soil wastewater volume for 10 days is 3.6 pore volume of the column. 97% of $^{60}$ Co in the column was decontaminated for 10 days of operation, while only 54% of $^{137}$ Cs was decontaminated. These results are considered that the absorption equilibrium coefficient of $^{137}$ Cs is higher than that of $^{60}$ Co. The predicted values of the residual concentration by the proposed mathematical model were well coincided with the experimental results within the experimental error range

It is a serious task to the decommissioning of the uranium conversion plant that the demolition of the lagoon sludge. The main component of the sludge is ammonium nitrate and that is the very explosive material. Therefore, the bio-denitrification is a attractive process to remove the nitrate. In this work, some process variables was tested such as incubation temperature, nitrate concentration, electron donor, C/N ratio, seeding ratio, and pH with an anaerobic bacteria as Pseudomonas halodenitrificans. The results would be used as basic data to the continuous bio-denitrification process.
This experiment was carried out to examine the effect of iron oxide roasting for Sr-ferrite magnet. Chloride content was decreased with raising the 2 nd roasting temperature of iron oxide for ruthner process iron oxide. The optimization temperature for roasting of ruthner process iron oxide was around $800^{\circ}C$ as average particle size 1.5∼1.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$, apparent bulk density 1.4 g/$m\ell$ and chloride content 0.05%. The relation between Br and HcJ by sintering temperature for Sr-ferrite magnet was found to be Br≒-0.258HcJ+494. In case of having a vibrating disk mill for the ruthner process iron oxide, the magnetic properties were Br 421 mT and HcJ 251 kA/m.
The adsorption of nickel(Ni) from sulfuric acid solution was carried out by ion exchange method. A series of batch tests in synthetic solutions were carried out using Lewatit Monoplus TP 220 resin. The following experimental parameters, such as temperature, shaking rate, reaction time, pH, resin dosage and concentration of nickel ions etc. were investigated to establish the effective optimum conditions of nickel adsorption. The solution pH(2.0~5.0) and shaking rate had little effects on the adsorption of nickel and adsorption time of 72hours was required to reach equilibrium. The experimental results show a good agreement with Feundlich isotherm and pseudo-second order reaction. The adsorption behavior of Ni obtained from synthetic solution was compared with that of waste electroplating solution. Elution of nickel from loaded resin increased with increase in $H_2SO_4$ concentration.
For the treatment of reactive phenolic resin waste, a simulation model of pervaporative dehydration process has been developed through hollow fiber membrane module. Some of basic parameters were determined directly from dehydration of the waste liquid through a flat sheet membrane to get realistic values. The simulation model was verified by comparing the simulated values with experimental data obtained from hollow fiber membrane module. Hollow fiber membranes with active layer coated on inside fiber were used, and feed flew through inside hollow fiber. Feed flow rate affected membrane performances and reaction by providing a corresponding temperature distribution of feed along with fiber length. Feed temperature is also a crucial factor to determine dehydration and reaction behavior by two competing ways; increasing temperature increases permeation rate as well as water formation rate. Once the permeate pressure is well below the saturated vapor pressure of feed, permeate pressure had a slightly negative effect on permeation performance by slightly reducing driving force. As the pressure approached the vapor pressure of feed, dehydration performances declined considerably due to the activity ratio of feed and permeate.
The isolation of taurine from cooking wastes of anchovy factory ship was conducted. Anchovy cooking wastes had 93.9% moisture, followed by 4.8% ash, 0.4% protein and 0.2% lipid in order. Free amino acids of anchovy cooking wastes consisted of 38.8% taurine, 26.6% histidine and 10.0% glutamic acid. Taurine-rich fraction was isolated by cation and anion exchange chromatography with its yield and purity being 79.2% and 89.9%, respectively. The 80% ethanol precipitate obtained from the taurine-rich fraction showed yield of 29.5% and purity of 98.1% as taurine.

The $FeCl_3$ waste solution used to etch various metals contains valuable metal such as nickel. In this study, we recovered as high purity nickel carbonate crystalline powders from nickel-containing etching waste solution after regeneration of iron chloride. Firstly we eliminated about of the iron impurities under the condition of pH 4 using 5 % NaOH aqueous solution and then removed the remaining impurities such as Ca, Mn and Zn etc. by using solvent extractant D2EHPA (Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid). Thereafter, nickel carbonate powder having a purity of 99.9 % or more was obtained through reaction with sodium carbonate in a nickel chloride solution.
The properties vary with quality of ferric-oxide that is major material of ferrites. In this point of view, a manufacturing method of pure and homogeneous fine ferric oxide is very important. The characters of this study are as follows: 1) Ferric oxide was made from waste pickling liquor of steel. 2) The crude ferric-oxide that is made by roasting the pickling liquor was dissolved in 20% HCI solution and then produced ferric chloride is purified by ethyl ether extraction. 3) The methanol solution of purified ferric chloride was sprayed into the refractory tube with compressed air and propane gas and then ignited leading to the ferric-oxide powder. 4) The produced oxide powder was introduced to the scrubber type vessel throught cooling system in order to collect the powder. 5) Crystalline phase of the powder was identified by X-ray diffraction and particle size, crystalline shape of the powder were investigated by settling method and electron microscope and the effects of concentration of ferric chloride in methanol on grain size were discussed. Results were obtained as fellows: 1) Total impurity in the ferric oxide produced from waste pickling liquor was 3.7%. 2) The solubilityof crude ferric oxide that was made from waste pickling liquor in HCI solution increased with the HCI concentration and reached to saturation range at 15% HCI concentration. 3) Extraction of FeCl3 increased with HCI concentration which is solvent. 4) Alpha ferric oxide obtained was very fine crystalline particles, the mean crystalline grain increased with the concentration of ferric chloride, and mean grain size distributed from 3.5$\mu$(at 0.5mole/l) to 0.5$\mu$(at 0.05mole/l).

Tubular ultrafiltration membranes were used to investigated mass transfer characteristics of waste cheese whey. The effects of bulk concentration and flow velocity on permeat flux, mass transfer coefficient and apparent rejection coefficient were measured. Mass transfer coefficient was increased linearly with increasing flow velocity, and following relationship between mass transfer coefficient(k) and linear velocity(u) was obtained. $k=0.87{\times}10^{-5}u^{1-1}$ It is interjecting to note that plots for all linear velocity tend to converge to the same point for zero permeating flux, and the maximum bulk concentration that can be achieved with cheese whey extracts was 38(w/v %). In general, membrane rejection coefficient increased with increasing flow velocity and the rejection coefficients of cheese whey solution and that of lactose in cheese whey solution were obtained $0.40{\sim}0.65$, $0.15{\sim}0.30$, respectively.
