This study suggests the need for polar literacy education as an effective conceptual system to explain climate change in terms of science education in line with the common effort of humankind to respond to global environmental changes. To this end, we investigated the status of polar literacy in high school students through quantitative tests and qualitative interviews and discussed the resulting implications. A total of 329 high school sophomore students from two high schools participated in a test consisting of 25 true and false questions developed by referring to the Polar Literacy Principles, while 13 students agreed to be interviewed. The results showed that a somewhat insufficient understanding and conceptual gaps appeared regarding several areas of the Polar Literacy Principles. Knowledge of the geographic features of the polar regions was weak, and little was known about the components and key characteristics of the cryosphere. The lack of understanding of these concepts results in the inability of students to link the operational mechanisms of polar and global climate change sufficiently. While accepting unsatisfactory concepts in the school curriculum without criticism from outside media, students perceived the mechanism of climate change as somewhat monotonous or distorted. Moreover, linguistic information, analogies, and visual observation were used as cognitive strategies to compensate for the ambiguous understanding of polar and climate change. Based on the abovementioned results, we argue that polar literacy education should be introduced as a new knowledge system that can be used to aid a systematic and comprehensive understanding of climate change within the school science curriculum. Additionally, we suggest the following implications: review the consistency of knowledge related to polar literacy in other subjects, provide critical standards for out-of-school media information related to climate change, examine students' misconceptions, and identify improved thinking strategies.
It would be reasonable as a teacher to make efforts not only to reflect on the class on their own but also to improve the teacher' teaching e pertise by reflecting on the class with fellow teachers through lesson reflection sharing. This paper attempted to develop a lesson reflective framework that can provide standards and focus for lesson reflection and lesson sharing. First, based on the class evaluation criteria of previous studies, class reflection elements and a draft of lesson reflection were prepared. In a class conducted on 27 third graders at C High School where the co-researcher worked as a teacher, four peer teachers at the same high school were required to write personal opinions on the class based on the draft of lesson reflection. Based on this, lesson sharing was conducted, and modifications of the lesson reflection framework were developed by analyzing the case of class sharing. The implications of this paper indicate the need to clarify the perspective of viewing the lesson by sharing the intention of each question in advance. In addition to writing lesson reflections, it is necessary to share classes simultaneously.
This study is to investigate the characteristics of problem-finding and problem-solving abilities demonstrated by the secondary gifted students in the context of STEAM convergent problems. For this, using the STEAM convergence problem solving ability test, we qualitatively and quantitatively compared and analyzed the workbook outputs written in the process of finding and solving problems for each student in the gifted class. The results are as follows: First, we found that the speciality of the major of the proposed activity paper influenced the preference for questions and pattern of finding problems. Second, it was found that the difference in the ability to find and solve problems for a specific task was not by the major of the gifted class, but by the composition of the group. Third, in finding and solving the STEAM convergent problem, the individual creativity and the cooperative creativity of the group were more significant than the major. These results suggest that it is necessary to include the affective factors of gifted students and the concept of cooperation in problem-finding and problem-solving ability evaluation, and there is a need to develop a teaching and learning strategy that can improve cooperative problem-solving skills so that group creativity can be exhibited well.
This study examines how prospective earth science teachers perceive the concept of "equilibrium" and "interaction between Earth's spheres" in understanding Earth's radiative equilibrium and tries to identify their misconceptions. For this purpose, a questionnaire was designed and put to them to look into their thought flow based on the items that appeared in the national level evaluation. As a result of analyzing their answers, even though all the prospective teachers correctly described the concept of radiative equilibrium, about 90% of them did not apply the concept of radiative equilibrium to the new environment of the Earth without atmosphere. They do not seem to be able to smoothly derive the concept of a new 'interaction' between the changed regions and a new 'equilibrium' that will be reached over a long period of time. In this respect, it is likely that the textbooks had some influence on the formation of their concepts. In particular, high school Earth Science textbooks describe the Earth's radiation equilibrium in a quantitative manner, focusing on the heat budget of the equilibrium state rather than the process of reaching radiation equilibrium. Such an approach of textbooks might be an obstacle to fostering students into creative convergence-type talents pursued in the 2015 revised curriculum. Meanwhile, in order to eliminate the misconceptions of students often found in the understanding of Earth's radiation equilibrium, this study suggests that the core concepts need to be dealt with more attention even in college courses for training prospective teachers.

The purpose of this study is to verify the role of teacher librarians by examining the cases of media and information literacy(MIL) classes in the joint curriculum of high school credit system research school. The classes were two 34th classes joint curriculum established by two teacher librarians at the high school credit system research school. Individual students set their own inquiry problems integrated with their careers or subjects, and teacher librarians guide the process of solving them based on the process of using MIL. The participants were 22 high school students in Daegu who filled out the questionnaire before and after completing the course. The effect of the classes was analyzed through a questionnaire consisting of 42 questions for the 3 factors of access, evaluation, and creation, which are the components of MIL announced by UNESCO. As a result, all 3 factors and 25 of the sub-42 survey items showed a statistically significant difference before and after class, It was investigated that literacy of students improved through MIL education of teacher librarians. Through this study, it will be possible to expand the awareness of the effect of the educational role of teacher librarians in the flow of future curriculum.
This study assumed two key parameters that describe smoothness. Previously, the number of studies that defined smoothness with the concept of curvature has been limited. The parameters were the two physical characteristics of curvature: the number of waves and the amplitude of them. The purpose of the study was to observe which of the two parameters influences the perception of smoothness and to examine the relationship between the sense of aesthetic beauty and smoothness. The visual stimuli used in the study were transformed three-dimensional spheres, based on the combination of the three levels of the two parameters of nine distinct conditions. We analyzed the three responses that measured the preference of each visual stimuli, the familiarity score, and the smoothness evaluation score, each with the linear mixed model whose fixed effects were the two parameters and random effects were the participants' individual differences. Nearly the eighty percent of the variance of the smoothness evaluation score was explained by the linear model with the two key parameters and their interaction. The physical characteristics of a viewed object were far more significant than individual differences such as personality factors and the manner of art appreciation. In conclusion, the study examined the perception of smoothness based on the change of the physical characteristics of a shape. The study further recognized the relationship between smoothness and the aesthetic preference. No significant influence of the participants' individual difference such as gender, the degree in fine arts, personality factors, and the manner of art appreciation was observed. The amplitude of waves, rather than the number of them, was far more significant to the perception of smoothness.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the students' perception of the learning support system of Korea Science Academy and to propose improvements to it. The impact of the science learning support system on 129 gifted students in Korea Science Academy (KSA) was estimated by using Likert-type items and the multiple-choice method approach for more comprehensive evaluation. The results of our investigation are as follows: First, the learning support system of KSA appears globally useful to the students. The list of educational usefulness to the students comprises, in the decreasing order of utility, classroom work, Internet, lab activities, reading rooms, library, research meetings and clubs, academic advisors (AA), SAF (Science Academy Fair), e-learning system, and finally colloquia by invited lecturers. Second, what the gifted students hope for in the realm of learning support from KSA are learning guides by subject teachers, presentation skill program, the constructions of on/off-line learning communities, etc. It seems that the results of this study would be helpful in improving the learning support system, and will provide useful information for planning the direction of future science-gifted education programs at the high-school level.

The purposes of this study were to develop and apply teaching-learning plans using ARCS strategies to improve character of middle school students and analyze whether a home economics class helps to give positive effects on youth character change. Nine-period classes were conducted for 110 male students in 4 classes of M middle school in Gwangju metropolitan city for 5 weeks from March 6 through April 7 in 2017. The effectiveness of classes were examined with learners' class assessment and pre- and post- character index test. The research steps and results in this study are as follows. First, the teaching-learning plans for 9 periods were developed for the character education class of the chapter 'Understanding families'. These teaching and learning course plans were designed to enhance learner's interests in learning using ARCS motivational strategy and improve character of middle school students in consideration of character elements. In the chapter 'Understanding families' of Technology Home Economics in middle school, the teaching-learning plans for 9 periods, 14 student activity sheets, and 2 powerpoint materials for teaching and learning were developed. Second, students who had the character education classes using ARCS motivational strategy showed significant differences in all character elements. Therefore, the character education class using ARCS shows positive effects to build up character of middle school students. Third, the character education classes using ARCS motivational strategy increased the class satisfaction of learners. The character education class teaching and learning course plans and learning materials in Technology Home Economics using ARCS motivational strategy will be used as a basic resource to build up students' character in the future.
The purpose of this study is to offer data base for establishment of dental training x-ray generator based safety usage through surveying real radiation safety management state of radiation worker's in plan of operations that have dental training x-ray generators and use it. For it, comprehensive references were surveyed referring reports of current state of regulation technique development and domestic radiation safety evaluation and nuclear related legislation regarding radiation safety management of dental training x-ray generators. On the basis of it, questionnaires were filled in about respondent's general characteristic radiation safety manager's status current state of radiation safety management and the level of knowledge & consciousness. For the study, the survey was conducted to 224 people of radiation safety managers and university graduates training assistants and full-time professors who can treat dental training x-ray generators in education center. through this survey 95 questionnaires were used as analysis materials except the insufficient and omitted responses. As a method of analysis, the frequency and percentage were figured out with the general characteristics and safety manager's status. Chi-square test for frequency and correlation per question analysis and Pearson correlation analysis for crosslevel correlation were done with current state of radiation safety management and knowledge & consciousness level. As a result, running dental training x-ray generators was dealt with by 20's to 40's who have high education level over post undergraduate degree and major in dental hygienic. This study explored how media and interpersonal communication affected voters in Busan mayoral by-election, focusing on the mutual relations among media use and attentive use of political campaign, interpersonal communication, and voting participation. Also, comparative analysis between image factor and the factor of political party influencing the decision of a candidate were examined. Additionally, it was analysed differential media effects on candidates' image. According to the results, the local media use and attentive use of political campaign had the influence on the increase of interpersonal communication about the election. Voters who had much interpersonal discussion with others participated more than voters who had less interpersonal discussion. Media use did not directly affect the participation of voting, but indirectly contributed to participation of voting through interpersonal discussion. The assumption of differential media effects on candidates image was partly proved. There were statistically significant differences in the factor of competence of candidates' image among three experimental groups (attentive use of TV discussion program, Internet web sites of two candidates, and printing materials of political advertisement). Furthermore, with three main vote variables, issues, candidates image, party identification, the results of comparative analysis between image factor and the factor of political party influencing the choice of a candidate suggested that a sense of oneness with a party was highly related to the choice of the candidates of the party, however, candidates' image was not related to the decision of a candidate. Political party had more impact on for whom to vote than candidates' image in this study.
