  • The corrosion-fatigue characteristics of the 12Cr steel, which is widely used in fossil power plants as a turbine blade material, are evaluated nondestructively by use of the Rayleigh surface wave. In this study, the frequency dependency of the Rayleigh surface wave is investigated indirectly by measuring the angular dependency of the backward radiation of the incident ultrasonic wave in the aged specimens, and then compared to the corrosion-fatigue characteristics. The width of the backward radiation profile decreases as the increase of the aging temperature, which seems to result from the increase of the effective degrading layer thickness. This parameter also shows an inversely proportionality to the exponent, m, in the Paris law which predicts the crack size increasement due to fatigue. The result observed in this study demonstrates high potential of the backward radiated ultrasound as a tool for the nondestructive evaluation of the corrosion-fatigue characteristics of the aged materials.

  • Recently, the importance of ocean becomes more serious. Thus, we need to construct port structures and instruments safely. Especially, we should understand the diffraction phenomenon of wave in order to construct breakwaters. To simulate diffraction of wave, parabolic mild slope equations are solved using FDM. A breakwater with an open part and an half infinite breakwater are selected for simulation. Diffraction of wave are simulated in the condition of wave angles of attack of $0^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\l;60^{\circ}$. Diffraction Coefficient and 1)Ampplitude are shown in graphics and compared with results of Penny & Price and Memos.

  • The pressure waves scattered by an infinite cylindrical cavity filled with air in a h0mogeneous medium have been calculated for the incident plane pressure waves. For ka = 1/2, 1, 2, 4, 10 and 20, the scattered pressure waves are plotted., where k is the wave number and a is the radius of the cylindrical hole. As an indicator of the directivity of the scattering pattern, we have defined the angle at which the magnitude of the scattered pressure wave decreases by a half(6 dB) with respect to that of the forward peak scattered pressure wave. This angle depends strongly on the values of ka and the distance r, and the angle can be used for the detection of the location and the size of the cavity in a homogeneous medium.

  • The distributing current is calculated on the infinit plane mattaric grattings for the TM waves. The matrix is larger, when the moment method is applied this structure. So, the moment method of this case is required large memory and long CPU times. Those boundary condition and the scattering formura are transformed into spectal domain. Taking account of the peridic structure, this formular is changed in a series form by using the Flouquet mode. By making a suitable basis function, this equation is expreseed matrix form. So the distributing current on the mattaric strip is able to caculate by using this equation. We calculate magnitude of the distributing current for varing these spaces, widthes and an angle of incident waves.

  • Numerical analyses of stem waves, the interaction between incident and reflected waves of obliquely incident regular waves along a vertical wall in a constant water depth, are presented. For the numerical model of the analysis, the two-layer Boussinesq equations developed by Lynett and Liu(2004a,b) are employed. Numerical results are compared with both laboratory measurements and those obtained using parabolic approximation model. The overall comparisons between the results from the two numerical models and the experiments are good. However, the two-layer Boussinesq model is more accurate than the parabolic approximation model as the angle of incident waves increases. In particular, the higher harmonic generation due to the wave nonlinearity is captured only in the Boussinesq model.

  • The present study is to estimate the effect of diffracted wave fields inside a harbor, around harbor entrance and outer breakwater, when a navigation channel is dredged in the vicinity of the a harbor entrance. The wave field of the problem is considered to be two-dimensional plane and the configuration of the submarine pit on the sea bed is designated by a single rectangular type. The numerical simulation is performed by using the solution of the Greet function based on the boundary integral equation. The results of this study is illustrated by applying the normal incidence and partially reflecting boundaries.

  • Dual integral equation in the spectral domain is derived for an arbitrary angled perfect conducting wedge with E-polarized plane wave incidence. Analytic integration of the dual integral equation in the spectral domain with the exact boundary fields of the perfect conducting wedge, the well known series solution, gives the exact asymptotic solution. The validity of the integration is assured by showing that analytic integration gives the null fields in the complementary region.

  • This paper is related to the correction of radiometric distortions induced by topographic relief. RADARSAT SAR image data were obtained over the mountainous area near southern part of Seoul. Initially, the SAR data was geometrically corrected and registered to plane rectangular coordinates so that each pixel of the SAR image has known topographic parameters. The topographic parameters (slope and aspect) at each pixel position were calculated from the digital elevation model (DEM) data having a comparable spatial resolution with the SAR data. Local incidence angle between the incoming microwave and the surface normal to terrain slope was selected as a primary geometric factor to analyze and to correct the radiometric distortions. Using digital maps of forest stands, several fields of rather homogeneous forest stands were delineated over the SAR image. Once the effects of local incidence angle on the radar backscatter were defined, the radiometric correction was performed by an empirical fuction that was derived from the relationship between the geometric parameters and mean radar backscatter. The correction effects were examined by ground truth data.

  • By employing multiple-scale expansion techniques, the diffraction of sinusoidally-modulated nonlinear Stokes waves by a stationary thin wedge has been studied within the framework of potential theory. It is found that the evolution of diffracted waves can be described by the Zakharov equation to the leading order and it can be replaced by the cubic $Schr\ddot{o}dinger$ equation with an additional linear term for stable modulations. Computations are made for the cubic $Schr\ddot{o}dinger$ equation with different values of nonlinear and dispersion parameters. Numerical results well reflect the experimental findings in the amplitude and width of generated stem waves. It is numerically confirmed that the nonlinearity dominates the wave field, while the dispersion hardly affects the wave evolution, and stem waves are likely to be formed for steep incident waves in the case of stable sinusoidal modulations.
