Study on User Legibility for Web-based Testing (웹 기반 평가를 위한 사용자 가독성에 관한 연구)

  • With development of computer engineering and the examination theories, new techniques to use computers in making or administrating examinations had been studied and developed. Recently, studies on web-based testing are in progress with development of Internet and information and communication technology. However, as compared with development of these technical aspects, studies on the user legibility to provide learners with comfortable environment for the evaluation have been insufficient in fact. In the web-based testing, user legibility decreases the anxiety of examinees in the examination and plays an important role in measuring their competence exactly. In this study, we tried to provide the optimum web-based evaluation interface by obtaining information through a questionnaire for primary-school students. We think that principles suggested in this study can give a great help in making the web-based evaluation screen in future. Besides, studies on more various fields including making individual questions, instructing sentences and layout of multimedia factors as well as the principles mentioned in this study should be performed.

An Optimal AP Discovery Method in 802.11 Network (802.11망에서 최적의 AP 검색 기법)

  • With the development of mobile communications and Internet technology, there is a strong need to provide seamless and fast connectivity for roaming devices. Generally, the mobile host (MH) may have several available networks when entering a new wireless area. However, the standard of decision for user's internet connection is provided only the subsystem identification (SSID) and signal strength of access point (AP). These two standards could not enough to decide optimal AP to the MH. Therefore, to decide the optimal AP, more information is needed. In this paper, we present additional information such as status of MH, capacity, current load, and depth of network hierarchy, by router advertisement message at layer 3. Also, we proposed decision engine (DE) on the MH that analyzes APs and decides the optimal AP automatically by AP's status information. For the MH, wireless connection period is increased, the power consumption is decreased, and the signaling overhead is reduced. For AP and router, the load balancing is provided and the network topology can also be more efficient.

  • Recently RFID systems have been introduced in place of barcode systems to industries such as logistics, distribution, and manufacturing. Due to security vulnerabilities in wireless communication between the reader and tags, however, the authentication protocols for the communication have also been researched extensively. In order to solve the vulnerability of previously proposed protocols, this paper thus proposes an authentication protocol that satisfies the security requirements in the RFID system and minimizes the quantity of computation such as random number generation, transmitting the micro-time of databases. In addition, it is expected that the proposed cross authentication protocol is safe against replay attack, spoofing attack, traffic analysis, and eavesdropping attack when it is applied to the RFID system. Also, it has advantages such as providing a high level of security at a lower manufacturing cost.

  • Grid computing has a large scale virtual computing environment that enables a collaborative processing through sharing resources of geographically distributed organizations. In recent year, the development of wireless networks and mobile devices enables mobile devices to consider as a resource of the grids. However, there are some problems such as low performance of processors, small capacity of storages, limited capacity of battery, and low bandwidth. In this paper, to overcome these limitations occurred in mobile grid environments, we proposed a proxy-based mobile grid system. Our proposed system enables mobile devices to play roles as a resource consumer and a resource provider and to collaborate with wired grids through a mobile router. Also, we propose an adaptive job scheduling scheme to cope with context changes of mobile devices and compare our scheduling scheme with other scheduling schemes using a simulation tool, SimGrid, to verify the validity of our job scheduling scheme.

Use and Need of Health and Nutrition Information on the Computer among University Students (대학생의 컴퓨터를 통한 건강 및 영양정보의 이용실태 및 요구도)

  • The use and need of health and nutrition information on the PC communication and internet among university students at Chungbuk area were investigated. The data from 167 students from two different universities were collected and analyzed from March to May, 1998. The results are as follows. 1. Male students were 27.5% and female students were 72.5%. 2. Sixty percent and 74.7% of the students had ever used PC communication and internet, respectively. Higher proportions of male students had experiences in PC communication and internet use than fe male students. The main reasons to use PC communication and internet were 1)to obtain information and knowledge(67.4%) 2)to enjoy(10.5%), 3)to make friends or to talk(5.3%) 3. About 40% of the experienced students of the PC communication of internet obtained health or nutrition information. However, only 25% of the experienced students obtained the nutrition information from the internet. Only 10% of the students agreed that the information from the PC communication and internet was very useful. The reasons not to use the information from the PC communication and internet were 'lack of expertise of the information' and 'long response time'. Many students thought that the information provided through the computer should be improved in terms of variety and applicability to the real situation. 4. Among the 33 topics of the health and nutrition information given on the questionnaire, both male and female students had the greatest interest in stress management. The next topics in which female students had interests were diet for weight control, health problems related to menstration, dietary assessment, and cancer prevention. In male students, dietary assessment, infant nutrition management, hypertention diet were the main interests. On the basis of these results an information system on health and nutrition management during the lifecycle for Korean women will be constructed on the internet.

  • It is activated a virtual university(digital university) without limitation time and space that the diffusion of internet, the rapid development of information and communicative technologies, web-technology. It is great importance of school-site to support various and qualitative education services, to cut social education spending, to strengthen national competitiveness with breed expert. Many people who are in universities are putting a school-site to the test. So we need study and analysis it to build up a virtual-study-space efficiently on web. This thesis is supposed to help in school-site design to make it reduce errors and save time and efforts. First, it suggests most general design pattern by analysis visual elements using HTML Tag. Second, it suggests a guide-line and a specific of design to use convenience through research on web-design problem and finding out user's favor.

  • Rapid developments of Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) have made people learn with online contents allowing learning at onilne universities. The environments of offering educational contents at online universities differ from those at offline-based ones, so that alternative variables need to be considered in order to enhance learning effectiveness in online settings. In this study, the effects of Self-Regulated Learning(SRL) and motivation on learner-instructor interactions and academic performance in an online university were addressed. As a result, SRL and motivation not only directly affected both interactions and achievements, but also indirectly affected achievements via interactions. Also, learner-instructor interactions were directly effective on learning achievements. The implications of the research included comprehensive understandings of the structural relationships of teaching- and learning-related variables on learning. Suggestions were made based on the results.

Cyber Consultation System for Primary School Students (초등학교 학생들을 위한 사이버 상담 시스템)

  • The researcher designed and applied the cyber consultation system by making use of high-speed information networks and getting away from the established face-to-face consultation patterns in our society. The system is characterized by the means of communications to hold consultation with interviewees which enables us to feel free to converse with students in trouble and to more actively engage in interaction with the help of client-centered system. And it can also be used to help clients to change their attitudes towards consultation by relieving them of distrust, dislike and vague anxiety and to take active part in consultation. The established on-line consultation websites fail to continue consultation due to being able to hold secret consultation through e-mails. In this context, the researcher has produced the cyber consultation system to continuously hold various kinds of consultation including closed consultation between consultants and interviewees with the help of web servers where individual homepages are used.

The Analysis on Effects of Applying the Contents of Augmented Reality - Focused on the English Class in Elementary - (증강현실 콘텐츠 활용수업의 효과성 분석 - 초등학교 영어과목을 중심으로-)

  • This study analyzed the effects of augmented reality contents in the elementary school English curriculum. The study revealed the differences between study focus rate, study participation activeness, study activities consuming variables and instructional climate of a group that used augmented reality contents of the English curriculum produced by KERIS and ETRI in 2008, and a group that did not use the contents. As a result, there was no significant difference between the group that studied with augmented reality contents and the group that studied in a traditional method in terms of study focus rate. For study participation activeness, the traditional class had higher scores. On the other hand, the augmented reality contents class had an even spread of study activities consuming variables overall. In terms of instructional climate, the traditional class had higher scores in the amiable field. These results show that in English classes, the student's focusing skills and motivation for studies and stimulation of students' concentration are more related to results than the type of contents.

Analysis of Inquisitive Tendency of 2009 Revised Middle School Informatics Textbooks (2009 개정 중학교 정보 교과서의 탐구적 경향 분석)

  • In this paper, we study the inquisitive tendency in informatics textbooks for middle school students. These textbooks were written in 2009, and have been adopted in 2013 as part of the curriculum. The research is based on six textbooks, which passed qualification tests, and is mainly focused on the section 'composition and movement of information equipment', which covers contents for the student's major field of study. Romey analysis was employed to analyze inquisitive tendency in four sections - text, data, activity and evaluation. The results illustrated that some textbooks were organized in a way that exhibited a low level of inquisitive tendency for students, and took an authoritative tone. The section 'activity' showed the highest level of inquisitive tendency and the 'text' showed the lowest level. Some sections in the textbooks were found to have zero Romey measures, which stress the need for improvement.
