The Spill-over Effects of Domestic Production of Light Rail Transit (경량전철 국산화의 경제적 파급효과)

  • This paper presents theoretical explanations about the spill-over effects of domestic production of light rail transit and empirically investigates its effects on output, value-added and employment in the Korean economy. We distinguish net gains of domestic production from gross effects that bring about whether localized or imported cars are used. The input-output analysis is employed to fully capture the interaction among various industries involved. The empirical results reveal that net gains of domestic production such as import substitution, improvement of trade balances, and increase in output, value-added and employment are enormous. The cost reduction in construction, E&M systems, cars, management, and tariff and transportation is also significant.

  • The Construction New Excellent Technology was introduced to promote the development of domestic construction technology and enhance national competitiveness, by inspiring the development desire of technology developers in 1989. Domestic Construction New Excellent Technology is first introduced in 1989, the total 596 cases were assigned to the new technology and it was used the construction site. Also, it was achieved the quantitative performance of thirty-hundred applications and was effected to the domestic construction industry. However, the systematic analysis about the introduction effects of Construction New Excellent Technology are none. Therefore, the quantitative analysis of economic effects in construction industry have to a justification in according to operation of Construction New Excellent Technology system and verification of superiority. And then, the Construction New Excellent Technology system needs a developing base in the future. In this study, The Economic Impacts of Construction New Excellent Technology were analyzed in quantitatively such as a cost savings effects, the employment effects, the effects on Value-added, the import substitution effects due to use of Construction New Excellent Technology. This study will be used promotion of economics and superiority in the Construction New Excellent Technology.

Analysis of Regional Economic Ripple Effects of Constructing LNG Bunkering Infrastructure at Busan Port (부산항 LNG 벙커링 인프라 구축에 따른 지역경제 파급효과 분석)

  • The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has strengthened environmental regulations, leading to an increase in demand for LNG-powered ships. To enhance the competitiveness of ports and promote the use of LNG-powered ships, establishing LNG bunkering infrastructure is necessary. However, no ports in Korea currently have such infrastructure. This study used the 2015 regional input-output table to examine the economic impact of establishing LNG bunkering infrastructure in Busan Port, the largest port in Korea. The estimated cost of the project in 2023 was KRW 21.09 billion. The average production, value-added, and employment inducement coefficients were 1.223, 0.372, and 7.58, respectively.

A study on the estimation of the K-address information industry and its economic effect (주소정보산업 규모 산정 및 경제적 효과 분석)

  • This study aims to establish the scope and statistics of the K-address information industry in Korea, estimating its size and prospects and estimates the economic effects through K-address information industry based on Input-Output analysis. Considering the characteristics and sectoral structure of the K-address information industry, the study delineates the scope and specific sectors, constructing sectoral statistics linked to the KSIC and the Bank of Korea's industrial classification. The study estimates the sectoral industry size, taking into account potential markets. Furthermore, it analyzes the economic impact of each sector within the K-address information industry. To figure out the economic effects, the study conducts Input-Output analysis by setting the K-address information industry as an exogenous sector in the input-output table. The results indicate that the overall size of the K-address information industry is estimated to grow from 406.1 billion KRW in 2021 to 3.65 trillion KRW in 2030. The economic effects of the K-address information industry vary by sector, emphasizing the importance of synergies and integration with related sectors, particularly those with significant inducement effects in high value-added manufacturing and service sectors. Furthermore, the industry's sensitivity to economic fluctuations is evident through the input-output analysis of inter-industry chain effects.

Analysis of the Economic Impact of Plan to Introduce Korea Nuclear Powered Submarines (한국형 원자력 잠수함 도입 방안별 경제적 파급효과 분석)

  • In this study the economic impact of each plan for introducing Korea unclear-powered submarines were analyzed. This study conducted a preliminary investigation into foreign countries cases of unclear-powered submarines and classified three introduction plans. In order to analyze the economic impact of each introduction plan, a multiple-level survey was conducted targeting experts with experience in developing and operating ship weapon systems, and quantitative results were calculated for subcategory items with industrial relevance for industrial correlation analysis. The value added inducement coefficient and production inducement coefficient and employment inducement coefficient were calculated for each introduction method, and a favorable introduction method was derived. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a reference for policy decision-making during prior research for the introduction of korea nuclear submarines.

Analysis Ripple Effect for Physical Promotion in Connection with Local Cultural Contents: Primarily based on Specialized Streets (지역 문화콘텐츠의 물리적 홍보 파급효과 분석 -특화거리를 중심으로-)

  • Utilization of cultural contents is more and more increasing as it is believed to improve local problems and provide historical values. This kind of business is positive in terms of the fact that it attracts visitors into local areas and activate local commercial areas. Under this trend, the construction of specialized streets is required to be approached with first priority to solve problems of cities. So to speak, it's more important to solve intrinsic problems found in local communities and then approach cultural contents step-by-step rather than constructing new spaces with first priority. Moreover, cultural contents should accompany economic aspects which result in local community-friendly and sympathetically concentrated values. Under this sentiment, the efforts to suggest economic ripple effects for government local government's businesses using cultural contents are very important. This study analyzed how much economic ripple effects is yielded by reflecting cultural contents. As the result of analysis, specialized street with cultural contents applied are proved to be more concentrated on multiplier of expediting employment, income and tax and tourism industry than service industry. On the contrary to this, service industry showed more concentrated multiplier of expediting production, income, added values and chain reaction effect (coefficients for influence and sensitivity for front and rear side of tourism industry. Based on these results, construction of specialized streets with cultural contents applied is proved to help synergy effects for local economy.

South Korean Demand for Tourism in North Korea and the Impact of their Expenses on the North Korean Regional Economy (한국인의 북한 관광의사와 북한 지역경제 효과)

  • This study analyses how much Korean visits to North Korea have an impact on the North Korean regional economy. It estimates the demand for North Korean tourism via the borders of North Korea, China, and Russia and South Korean expenses to be spent in North Korea. When asked if they are willing to visit North Korea within the next five years in case the pre-conditions of the visit to North Korea are satisfied, approximately 64.1% of the survey respondents indicated 'yes'. To estimate the demand, this research employed the analysis of purchase intention, popular in marketing, based on their willingness to visit. The annual demand for tourism was 4,136,361 persons. The average estimated expense per person is KRW 1,532,000 and the total annual expense is KRW 6,336.9 billion. Assuming that airfare is excluded from the total expense and the expense is made evenly in each tourist destination, the estimated amount to be spent in North Korea is KRW 2,838.7 billion per annum. The backward linkage effect of this expense on the North Korean regional economy is KRW 7,972.1 billion in total production inducement, KRW 2,619.4 billion in value-added inducement, and approximately 2,890,443 persons in employment inducement. The value-added inducement effect is estimated to be approximately 7.6% of the North Korean nominal GDP in 2020. South Korean tourism is expected to have a significant impact on the North Korean economy. As the demand for North Korean tourism is likely to increase steadily due to the expected increase in overseas travel demand by Koreans, inter-Korean cooperation is needed for the development of North Korean tourism infrastructure if conditions improve.

The Economic Effect of R&D Investment for the IT Green Growth Initiatives in Korea (IT분야의 신성장동력에 대한 연구개발(R&D)투자의 경제적 파급효과 분석)

  • This paper analyze the economic effect of R&D investment for the IT Green growth initiatives in Korea, relating to Green growth which is main force for activating in order to durable growth currently. The IT green growth initiatives can be grouped by IT manufacture, IT service, and S/W and computer-related services in the R&D investment and to be analyzed by the RAS forecasting methods. The results indicate that the production-inducing effect is about 31,853 billion won for the IT manufacture, and IT service is about 14,360 billion won, and the next is S/W and computer-related service whose effect is about 4,482 billion won. The import, value added, and employment effect of IT manufacture is also bigger than those of any other sectors in IT. This is because R&D investment in case of IT manufacture is more huge than IT service. Besides, employment-inducing effects show that IT manufacture is highest in 16,596 persons; IT service is secondly highest in 9,000 persons and S/W; lastly, computer-related service is much lower than those of any other sector. So we can conjecture that the long-term initiatives of IT green growth implementation lead to increasing size of benefits in the IT sectors.

A Study on the Ripple Effect of Physical Distribution Service Industry on National Economy (물류서비스 산업의 국민경제적 파급효과 분석)

  • This study aims to analyse the ripple effect of Physical distribution service industry on national economy using input-output tables and present the results as data for political plans in this field. For the analysis, it uses input-output tables developed and published by Sank of Korea in 1998, 2000, and 2003. To sum up the results, production inducement effects are 1757 for railroad transport, 1688 for road transport and 1617 for loading. Import inducement effects of assistant services, loading, storage, warehouse and other transport-related services are low while the effects of water and air transport are high as follows: 0.679 and 0.558 respectively. Then, added-value inducement effects are presented as follows: 0.841 for railway transport, 0.828 for road transport, 0.962 for transport assistant service, 0.939 for loading, 0.938 for storage and warehouse, and 0.942 for other transport-related services. Sensitivity dispersion index of road transport is high while that of water transport, storage and warehouse is low. And influence coefficient of railway and road transport is high while that of water and air transport is low. In respect to the employment structure of Physical distribution service industry, 744,000 are employed for road transport industry, which is the largest number, 19,000 for air transport and 20,000 for assistant services, which is the least number.

An Analysis about Impact of Smart Home manufacturing and service Industry on National Economy (스마트홈 제조업과 서비스업의 국민경제적 파급효과 분석)

  • This study evaluated its potentials by quantitatively analyzing the national economic impact of the smart home-related industry, which is attracting attention as a core industry of the 4th industrial revolution. For the analysis, the smart home-related industries were classified into manufacturing and service industries through a literature review of the previous studies. Using the 2018 input-output table, this paper analyzed linkage effects between industries as well as spillover effects in the production, value-added, employment and job. As a result, the smart home manufacturing and service sectors showed a higher spillover effect in value-added than other industries in each industrial field. In the smart home industry, the spillover effects of manufacturing sector to service sector are larger than those of service sector to manufacturing sector. Moreover, it was confirmed that smart home industry was highly related to not only the technology-intensive industry, but also the service sector for smart cities, smart cars, Fin-tech, and etc. On the other hand, the smart home manufacturing sector is a final demanding industry with relatively higher backward linkage effect than forward linkage effect. In the smart home service sector, the forward linkage effect was relatively high compared with the backward linkage effect, indicating that it was an industry with a high supply function to other industries.
