  • This study is targeted to understand the giving of time and money among citizens in Seoul. It explores predictors of different combinations of giving behaviors: only volunteering, only donating, doing both, and neither. In exploring predictors, it also considers the effects of intensity in giving with differential measurement of general participation and regular participation. For the analysis, this study utilizes Seoul Welfare Panel Survey Data in 2008 and 2010 and employes a multi-nominal logistic regression model with selection of citizens' demographic factors, pro-social attitude factors, and psycho-social factors on these four type of giving behaviors. The findings show that previous giving experiences(+) and religious activities(+) have statistically significant effects on both selective and combined giving behavior. Gender(woman), income(+), education(+) have statistically significant effects on giving behaviors(only donating and doing both) related with donation. In the case of employment state, unemployment is significantly related to volunteering while employment is significantly related to donating. Finally, happiness(+) has significantly positive effect on intensive giving such as regular giving rather than general giving. This analysis has made a start in a new area of inquiry attempting to explain different giving behaviors with broadening and promoting understanding on giving behaviors. Moreover, it raises several implications for future research and strategic practice for resource mobilization of NPOs.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the participation in activities, emotions, and problem behaviors of elderly people residing in nursing homes. In this observational study targeting 81 elderly patients with dementia, each patient's participation in activities, emotion, and problem behaviors were observed for 4 hours per day with 20 minutes interval, which leads to 6,804 data based on 12 times a day for 7 days. According to this study, 90.1% of the participants were suffering from severe cognitive impairment. Their emotions were scored 4 out of 7. They mainly participated in activities such as sitting or lying down, which had no specific purpose, but they showed the most positive emotion when involved in social activities. The most frequent types of problem behaviors were repetitive behaviors and making noises, and the frequency of their behaviors were different depending on the time. There were significant correlation between cognitive functions, emotions, and problematic behaviors. Therefore, it is necessary to find effective ways to increase participation in activities, induce participation in positive emotional activities, and reduce problem behaviors manifested most prominently each hour of the elderly patients with dementia residing in nursing homes.

  • Customer participation behavior(CPB) and customer citizenship behavior(CCB) which are customers' active functions and roles implemented in service encounter contribute to the service quality. Thanks to these ideas, many researches focus on the influences of these two customers' behaviors on relational outcomes, additionally. However, when examining the characteristics of CPB and CCB, it is notable that CPB and CCB are positively influenced by relationships between customers and firms, adversely. In other words, it is necessary to find that commercial friendship representing a deep relationship can address these two customers' behaviors, as well as may influence relational outcomes. As results, intimate friendship between a customer and an encounter provider has a positive influence on CPB and CCB, expectedly. These findings show that customers having prior contacts can play active roles in a service encounter. Additionally, it is identified that CPB and CCB have positive influences on the relational outcomes such as customer cooperations. Consequently, CPB and CCB are likely to be on the loop of a relational circulation.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship pattern among paternal parenting behaviors, father involvement, parenting stress, and parenting self- efficacy. The subjects were 299 fathers of 3 to 4 year-old children at 2 child care centers and 11 kindergartens in Seoul and the Gyunggi-do area. Fathers responded to a modified version of Parenting Daily Hassles(Crinc & Greeberg, 1990), a re vised version of Parenting Sense of Competence(Gibaud-Wallston & Wandersman, 1978), and questionnaires including questions about parenting behaviors(Park, 2000) and father involvement developed by authors. Stepwise regression analyses showed that fathers' cognitive efficacy of parenting and the frequency of play involvement on weekdays significantly explained paternal 'warmth encouragement'. Also, cognitive efficacy and the frequency and time amount of play involvement on weekdays significantly explained paternal 'setting up the limitations'. Meanwhile, fathers' emotional efficacy and the amount of play time involvement on weekdays significantly explained paternal 'over-protection permission'. Finally, the cognitive and emotional efficacy of rearing and parenting stress significantly explained paternal 'rejection non-intervention'.
