  • The purpose of this study is to compare inquiry activities in science textbooks' physics contents for Korean secondary schools with those of Singapore in order to provide a reference for further improvement of inquiry activities in Korean science textbooks. We analyzed inquiry activities using the framework of Millar et al.(1998) and Chinn & Malhotra (2002). The results of this study are as follows: There are differences between Korean and Singaporean inquiry activities in the area of 'learning objectives', 'students' thinking activities' and 'degree of openness'. In the area of 'learning objectives', the Korean textbooks have more activities associated with the learning of science content than those in Singaporean, whereas the Singaporean textbooks have more activities associated with the processes of scientific inquiry than in Korean textbooks. In the area of 'students' thinking activities', the Singaporean textbooks have activities like 'test a prediction', which Korean textbooks lack. The 'degree of openness' is higher in Singaporean textbooks than in Korean textbooks. And some differences in the area of 'authentic scientific inquiry' between Korean and Singaporean textbooks were also found. While the Korean textbooks do not have any activities associated with 'generating research questions', the Singaporean ones feature such activities. In the area of 'designing studies', the Singaporean textbooks have activities corresponding to 'selecting variables' and 'controlling variables', while the Korean ones never have such activities. The results of this study imply that it is necessary to balance inquiry activities in the area of 'learning objectives', 'students' thinking activities' and 'degree of openness', and to present activities close to authentic scientific inquiry in inquiry activities in textbooks.

  • The purpose of this research was to develop and applicate In based teaching$\cdot$learning process plan for Environmentally friendly Housing. The 3 main stages of process were used: analyses, planning & development, and application & evaluation. Three teaching subjects were selected to teach Environmentally friendly housing in the analysis stage. The webhard learning environment was consisted of contents and various materials such as digital video, PPT, group activity, discussion, individual and group reporting forms, and questions. The number of 101 high school students participated for the application stage during september 22-27, 2003. Most of all students evaluated very positively the various aspects of contents as well as LT cooperative learning methods md the web based learning environment. They strongly expressed to practice the practical ways of Environmentally friendly housing learned in the class in the future. The results imply that the contents and In teaching learning plan developed in this study seem to be adequate to be included in the regular text.

  • In this study, the standard model of next-generation software(SW) education was developed to expand SW education for fostering future talents and to prepare a consistent SW education application system for elementary, middle and high schools in the next revised curriculum. To this end, based on the study of the standard model for elementary and secondary SW education conducted in 2017~2018 academics, basic research and analysis on domestic and foreign SW education, public forums of related organizations and experts, global SW education workshops, and public hearings are held. Through this process, a consistent application system for SW education in elementary, middle, and high schools was established, and the next generation SW education standard curriculum model that can be connected to higher education and industry was developed.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore ways to change high school earth science elective courses with the introduction of the high school credit system in 2025, and ways to restructure them in preparation for the next curriculum revision. For this purpose, Delphi surveys with earth science education experts, a survey with in-service earth science teachers, and in-depth interviews with experts were conducted. According to the results, we need to consider four keywords such as cultivation of earth science literacy, connection with student career paths, emphasis on the fun of earth science itself, and student selection rate and college entrance exam in restructuring Earth science electives. Based on this direction, we composed four subjects: Earth System Science emphasizing earth science literacy, and three such subjects reinforcing career connection as Solid Earth Science, Atmospheric and Ocean Science, and Space Science. To resolve concerns about falling selection rate of earth science courses with the introduction of the high school credit system, it is necessary to re-establish the status of the earth science subjects including enhancing the career connection of the earth science electives. Follow-up studies are necessary to elaborate and publicize the titles and core concepts of Earth science electives.

  • This study aimed to develop an HTE (It is an abbreviation for Here, There, and Everywhere) STEAM program combining with the use of an analogy in a middle school subject unit 'the solar system' and realize creative education for intelligent information society through a process of verifying the effectiveness of the program. For reference, the program was applied to 354 students in the first grade of two middle schools in South Korea - one was A middle school in Sejong City, the other B middle school in Pyeongtaek City. The STEAM program was revised and made up for the weak points for three times by a group of experts, and then it got verified for validity. The final version of the program was applied to middle school education sites in Korea for six periods in total. In other to confirm the effectiveness, two types of tests - logical thinking ability test and STEAM attitude test - were conducted before and after the program treatment. On top of that, the STEAM satisfaction test was also implemented in order to explore the students' recognition of the program after the program treatment. The results of this study were as follows. First, it turned out the STEAM program using the analogy was effective in improving the students' logical thinking ability. Second, the STEAM program blended with the analogy was also effective in improving the students' STEAM attitude. Third, the students' recognition of the STEAM program using the analogy was quite positive, and the program was efficacious in intriguing the students' interests in science. Judging from the results of the program, the students' satisfaction with the classes they take will be expected to be higher if the STEAM program is implemented in the next-term classes with more sufficient time.

  • The purpose of this study is to support elementary teachers to use the teaching of weights and measures. To help the author of the next elementary mathematics textbook to be used as a reference for the quantitative narrative process. For this purpose, I focused on the contents of textbooks in terms of definition, a unit of measure, and calculation. As a result, first, as for the definition of weights and measures, it is taken as an example rather than as an explicit statement. Second, several problems were found in the metrology content and metric unit introduction order. Third, the computation between measurement units stood in simple computation rather than procedural knowledge. Fourth, it was concluded that the reason and groundbreaking of the grade-specific differences and the amount of a student's education are necessary.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the priority of the ISO auditors' specialized knowledge and job skills required to perform their duties, along with their personal characteristics, in order to enhance field-based auditing capability. For achieving the objectives of the study, the questionnaire consisted of a total of 50 competency factors, adding personal characteristics area to the ISO 19011-based specialized knowledge and job skills areas and the survey was conducted on the currently active ISO auditors with a five-point recert scale. Based on the results of the survey, the importance and present of ISO auditors in 3 competency areas were verified statistically significant difference through a t-test. The top priority and next priority competency factors for the overall competency and each competency areas were obtained through the Borich coefficient and the Locus for Focus Model. Considering the top priority competency factors in each competency areas identified from the study results, it can help develop related auditing curriculum. for improving the auditors' competency, and furthermore, it is expected to help strengthen ISO management system including quality, health & safety, environment and business continuity for companies.

  • This study was to investigate the unsuitable rate of the storage facilities, the changes in corrosion process over time after installation according to the status, the time to install the facilities, years elapsed after facilities installation, inspection of methods and motivation, and so on, based on the results of the inspection at the petroleum storage facilities conducted by domestic soil-relate specialized agency to derive optimal management plans which meet the status of soil contamination facilities. The results showed that the facilities more than 5 years after the initial leak test at the time of the installation need to be inspected periodically by considering costs of leak test and remediation of polluted soil. The inspection period can be decided by cost and leak test methods showing discrepancies for the results obtained from individual test whether it was direct or indirect. To compensate these matters, we suggested that the direct inspection method on regular schedule is recommended. On the other hand, the inspection can be voluntarily completed to ease burden of the results by inspection or equivalent level to this inspection method. Also, it may need improved construction supervision and performance test system to minimize the occurrence of the nature defects in installing the facilities as well as the upgrade program for the facilities during intervals of inspection period.
