  • In this study, six types of natural products, Prunus tomentosa (P. tomentosa), Akebia quinata (A. quinata), Prunus armeniaca (P. armeniaca), Smallanthus sonchifolius (S. sonchifolius), Citrus japonica (C. japonica), and Citrus australasica (C. australasica), were used to verify the effect of improving sleep and skin barriers by stress relief. As a result of the experiment, the production of cortisol, a stress hormone, was significantly inhibited by the P. tomentosa, C. australasica, A. quinata, and C. japonica among the six natural products. In addition, the expression of GAD67, a GABA-producing enzyme involved in sleep regulation, showed a significant increase in P. tomentosa purified water extract and C. australasica 50% ethanol extract, and the extract by each P. tomentosa solvent was found to have the highest total polyphenol content. Based on the results, the P. tomentosa extract with the highest activity was finally selected, and subsequent experiments were conducted. Among each P. tomentosa solvent extract, the DPPH radical scavenging activity was the highest in the 30% ethanol extract, and purified water extract increased GABA production and skin barrier factors filaggrin and claudin-1 expression the highest. HPLC analysis confirmed quercitrin as the main component of P. tomentosa extract, and quercitrin content by extraction solvent was high in the order of 30% ethanol > purified water > 70% ethanol > 50% ethanol. Quercitrin inhibited the production of cortisol in a concentration-dependent manner, significantly increasing GAD67 expression and GABA production, which had been reduced by cortisol. From the results of this study, it has been demonstrated that P. tomentosa can be used as a cosmetic material to help improve sleep and strengthen skin barriers by relieving stress.

  • The government employment statistics show the close comovement of the whole domestic unemployment rate with the youth unemployment rate for the past 10 years, implying the dominant influence of the unemployment of the youth age. This study investigates the structure of the short-run variation and the process of the long-run adjustment in the unemployment rates of the youth and middle ages by formulating the dynamic equation system. The estimation result consistently reflects the vulnerability of the youth class in the aggravation of the employment condition. The effect of exogenous changes is found to be persistent in the unemployment rates of both ages, which appear to have similar structures of the long-run time path. However, the youth unemployment rate turns out to have a relatively long adjustment process to the long-run equilibrium.

  • The memory wall is the growing disparity of speed between CPU and memory outside the CPU chip. An economical solution is a memory hierarchy organized into several levels, such as processor registers, cache, main memory, disk storage. We introduce a novel memory hierarchy optimization technique in Linux based embedded systems using on-chip SRAM for the first time. The optimization technique allocates On-Chip SRAM to the code/data that selected by programmers by using virtual memory systems. Experiments performed with nine applications indicate that the runtime improvements can be achieved by up to 35%, with an average of 14%, and the energy consumption can be reduced by up to 40%, with an average of 15%.

  • This paper presents a power detector circuit which monitors the transmitting power for the application in CDMA cell phones. The proposed power detector are composed of coupler for coupling output power and detector fur monitoring output power. The designed coupler has low loss characteristic because it adopts the stripline structure which consists of two ground planes at both sides of signal plane. The design frequency is 824-849MHz which is the Tx band fur CDMA mobile terminal, and the coupling factor of the stripline coupler is -20dB. A schottky barrier diode is adopted for detector design because of its high speed operation with minimized loss. The required impedance matching is performed to improve the linearity and sensitivity of output voltage at relatively low detector input level where the nonlinear characteristic of diode exists. The package parasitics as well as intrinsic diode model are considered for simulation of the detector. The predicted performances agree well with the measured results.

  • This study aims to provide implications for the realization of the SDG goal for higher education through a comparative analysis of the UK and Australia's inclusive higher education policies. The cases of the UK and Australia were chosen for analysis since both countries have developed various policies to strengthen the inclusiveness of higher education since the early 2000s. The implications for the Korean government are as follows. First, it should approach the concept of underprivileged students by applying various categories such as 'race, region, and etc.,' not just for a category of income level. Second, it should enhance higher education opportunities for underprivileged students not only by expanding admission opportunities for them, but also by assisting them to adapt to college life and develop a student career. Third, it should provide underprivileged students with the customized support in consideration of their characteristics and merits. Finally, it should develop the "Inclusive Higher Education Project" which would help them complete higher education courses through regional partnerships.

  • Digital transformation demands significant and foundational alterations in an organization's structure, processes, business strategy, and communication from a managerial perspective. However, one of the crucial prerequisites for a successful transition is the digital proficiency of its members. Students studying Management of Technology without a prior background in engineering face the difficult challenge of improving both their business management skills and digital competency within a limited time frame. For this reason, effective IT competency education methods are emerging as one of the educational issues in technology management. This paper showcases the IT-focused curriculum revision process of Sogang University's Graduate School of Management of Technology, along with the outcomes of its implementation thus far, as a demonstration of addressing the questions of "what to teach" and "how to teach" for students who could potentially become leaders in guiding the digital transformation. The purpose of this paper, specifically, is to offer a prior reference for the operation direction of effective programming education for students in Management of Technology graduate schools through a discussion on the feedback results of the required fundamental programming course which acts as both the starting point and entry hurdle.

  • We determined a portion of mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene sequences (416 bp) to investigate the genetic structure of the octopus (Octopus minor Ssaki) population in Korea and China. Samples were obtained from Korea (Yeosu, Namhae, Jindo, Muan, Geomundo and Seosan) and China (Sandong) during the period of August 2006 to September 2007. Sequence analyses of 28 individual specimens collected from 7 localities revealed 11 haplotypes, ranging in a sequence divergence of 0.2% - 1.2%. Phylogenetic analyses using PHYLIP and networks subdivided the octopus into two clades (termed clade A and B) and the nucleotide divergence between them was 0.4%. This haplotype subdivision was in accordance with geographic separation: one at Yeosu, Namhae, Muan and Jindo, and the other at Seosan, Geomundo and Sandong. On the basis of hierarchial genetic analysis, genetic distance between localities in Korea and China were also found, but a significant population differentiation was not shown in this study (p>0.05). Consequently, most of the octopus populations in Korea had considerable distribution due to the mitochondrial gene flow that resulted in a formation of a genetically homogenous structure, whereas some of the Korean and Chinese populations had different genetic structures. Gene flow among populations may be restricted due to impassable geographic barriers that promote genetic differentiation.
