Two experiments were executed to investigate the effect of uniform connectedness systematically using the identification task of briefly exposed forms. Previous study observed negative repetition effected (i.e., NRE) in the identification task of two parentheses either connected or disconnected vertically, which was interpreted as an evidence against the hypothesis of uniform connectedness. Experiment I tested the hypothesis that NRE resulted from the Perceptual set or anticipating disconnected displays. Experiment 2 tested the hypothesis that NRE resulted from relatively shorter exposure time. Using partial report task asking participants to report only the cued target and whole report task asking them to report the whole pattern with only connected displays, experiment 1 observed NRE respectively. Experiment 2, with longer exposure time equivalent to 83% accuracy and response bias controlled by use of catch trials, obtained the same NRE. Those results seems to indicate that uniformly connected forms were processed analytically by perceivers without task demand and futhermore, the hypothesis of uniform connectedness as a principle of perceptual organization is not plausible.
It has been suggested that primates' trichromatic color vision is an adaption for folivory and frugivory. Ripened fruit frequently is red against a green background. Given this, the question for our research was whether the ecological relationship between red and green plays any role in figure-ground organization that is an essential step in forming our perception of objects? In this study, it was tested which color looked most strong as a figure, using a red circle on a green background and a green circle on red background. The results of Experiment 1 showed that most participants saw the red circle for the figure more than the green circle. However, this effect was significant only in females, but not in males. Accordingly, this result suggests that the visual development of figure-ground organization based on red-green color combination may differ between males and females. In Experiment 2, it was surveyed that the results of Experiment 1 was simply not by the sex difference of color preference. The gender difference of the figure-ground organization on red-green stimuli are discussed in terms of some recent hypotheses such as gatherer-hunter hypothesis.
The present study examines the the role of subjectively perceived factors of the attitude toward job-seeking activities in forming an intention to use a web. An integrative research model is presented and tested empirically. It includes the following two aspects of belief in Davis' TAM: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use. Specially, internet job-seeking efficacy, or the belief in one's capabilities to organize and execute courses of Internet actions required to achieve given goals, is a potentially important factor in efforts to gain more favorable attitude toward Internet uses. Survey data were collected to develop a reliable operational measure of Internet job-seeking efficacy and to examine its construct validity. An four-item Internet job-seeking efficacy scale developed for the present study was found to be reliable and internally consistent. Also, many previous studies have established that perceived usefulness is an important factor influencing user acceptance and usage behavior of information technologies. However, very little research has been conducted to understand how that perception forms and changes over time. The current work presents and tests the determinants of perceived usefulness. The present study found that higher internet job-seeking efficacy is an important concept which is significantly related to job-seeking activities by positively influencing intention and performance as well as usefulness on the Internet.
We used holes defined by color similarity (Experiment 1) and binocular disparity (Experiment 2) to study how the inner contour of an object (i.e., boundary of a hole in it) is encoded in visual working memory. Many studies in VWM have shown that an object's boundary properties can be integrated with its surface properties via their shared spatial location, yielding an object-based encoding benefit. However, encoding of the hole contours has rarely been tested. We presented objects (squares or circles) containing a bar under a change detection paradigm, and relevant features to be remembered were the color of objects and the orientation of bars (or holes). If the contour of a hole belongs to the surrounding object rather than to the hole itself, the object-based feature binding hypothesis predicts that the shape of it can be integrated with color of an outer object, via their shared spatial location. Thus, in the hole display, change detection performance was expected to better than in the conjunction display where orientation and color features to be remembered were assigned to different parts of a conjunction object, and comparable to that in a single bar display where both orientation and color were assigned into a single bar. However, the results revealed that performance in the hole display did not differ from that in the conjunction display. This suggests that the shape of holes is not automatically encoded together with the surface properties of the outer object via object-based feature binding, but encoded independently from the surrounding object.

The aim of this study was to analyze the seasonal patterns of zooplankton community dynamics in the lower Nakdong River (Mulgum, RK; river kilometer; 27 km from the estuarine barrage), with a Self-Organizing Map (SOM) based on weekly sampled data collected over ten years(1994 ${\sim}$ 2003). It is well known that zooplankton groups had important role in the food web of freshwater ecosystems, however, less attention has been paid to this group compared with other community constituents. A non-linear patterning algorithm of the SOM was applied to discover the relationship among river environments and zooplankton community dynamics. Limnological variables (water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH , Secchi transparency, turbidity, chlorophyll a, discharge, etc.) were taken into account to implement patterning seasonal changes of zooplankton community structures (consisting of rotifers, cladocerans and copepods). The trained SOM model allocated zooplankton on the map plane with limnological parameters. Three zooplankton groups had high similarities to one another in their changing seasonal patterns, Among the limnological variables, water temporature was highly related to the zooplankton community dynamics (especially for cladocerans). The SOM model illustrated the suppression of zooplankton due to the increased river discharge, particularly in summer. Chlorophyll a concentrations were separated from zooplankton data set on the map plane, which would intimate the herbivorous activity of dominant grazers. This study introduces the zooplankton dynamics associated with limnological parameters using a nonlinear method, and the information will be useful for managing the river ecosystem, with respect to the food web interactions.
Human beings in their perception of the objects perceive the overall characteristics first rather than any parts of the object. In the process of 'information structuralization' and 'information visualization', therefore, it is needed the methods of narrative information representation based on a relationship of cause and effect in order to express effectively the whole messages which designers want to deliver. In this study, according to the concept of narrative information representation, we reviewed the meanings of the visual storytelling. As a result, we found that the visual storytelling has the three key roles which are 'narrative', 'visual communication catalyst', 'interacting'. First, the narrative describes the information logistics flow and it has a role to provide a specific story into information in the process of users' information understanding. Second, in the information design, the visual story telling not only expresses the information structure(story) but also uses the visual expressions to deliver the specific message, which is called visual communication catalyst. Third, the information design goes through the information structuralization and the information visualization stages through the visual storytelling to provide the experience factors to the information users, which is called the interactivity. The research implication is to provide the basis developing an approach method which is able to convey information messages effectively by improving information users' visual cognition and raising information users' memory.

This study investigated the importance of social cognitive intervention and the cognitive rehabilitation intervention by comparing the difference and examining the relationship between neurological cognitive function and social cognitive function of stroke patients in the acute phase and chronic stroke before returning to the community. LOTCA, cartoon intention inference task, and social behavior sequence task were performed on 30 acute stroke inpatients and 30 chronic stroke patients from May 2015 to June 2016. A two sample t test was conducted to examine the differences between the groups. The Pearson's correlations test was performed to examine the correlation among the variables in each group. As a result, there were statistically significant differences between the neurological cognitive function and social cognitive function of acute stroke patients and chronic stroke patients who were undergoing rehabilitation training before returning to the community (p<0.05). A linear relationship was found between the thinking operation and social behavior sequence task in the acute stroke group (r=0.539, p<0.05). In the chronic stroke group, visual perception (r=0.530, p<0.05), visual motor organization (r=0.655, p<0.05) and thinking operation (r=0.534, p<0.05) were correlated with the cartoon intention inference task. In addition, the social behavior sequence task were correlated with visual organization (r=0.534, p<0.05) and thinking operation (r=0.764, p<0.05). As a result of multiple regression analysis, the neurological cognitive functions influencing the social cognitive function in the cartoon task was found to be the thinking operation (B = 0.431) in acute stroke patients and the thinking operation (B=0.272) and visuomotor organization (B = 0.218) in the case of chronic stroke. In addition, the results of the social behavior sequence task revealed the thinking operation (B=0.417) in the acute stroke patients, and thinking operation (B=0.267), visual motor organization(B=0.274) and visual perception(B=151) in chronic stroke patients to be significant. According to this result, there is a difference in the neurological and social cognitive levels between the two groups. Therefore, the social cognition is strongly related to the high level cognitive function as thinking operation of the neurological cognitive function. Therefore, in further research, it would be necessary to determine if there is a change in higher cognitive function in neurological cognitive function after applying a social cognition intervention program for stroke.
The tonal music organizes the tones based on the hierarchy of the relative importance of musical tones. So listeners who are familiar with a certain musical style internalize the tonal schema of that music in mind, though they have no formal training about these organizing principles. This research examined how the western music experts who are not familiar with classical Korean music interpret classical Korean music. In the other researches about musical styles outside the western music, the superficial informations such as the distribution and the duration of tones in the experimental stimulus might be used as cues to extract the tonal schema of that music. In this study, these superficial informations were controlled in order to reduce this possibility. The results showed that the western music experts might interpret classical Korean music with the tonal schema of western music. but, thought the western music experts perceived classical Korean music on the base of the western musical framework and so their interpretation was not match with the tonal schema of classical Korean music. their interpretation was more similar to classical Korean tonal schema than the non-musicians interpretation of classical Korean music. These results suggested that the extensive experiences in a specific musical style can facilitate the listeners proper apprehension of the other musical styles.

Gestalt psychology is a theory of psychology to organize separate stimuli perceived by people's vision to incorporate them into significant types, and this also is applied in terms of the brand awareness of consumers. This study considered which influence the Gestalt psychology theories have upon the fashion consumers' information processing in fashion advertisement. The results are as follows. The principles of the totality and the perceptual organization in the Gestalt psychology are allowing fashion consumers to perceive information through advertisement and to be capable of understanding it a little more easily and clearly in the process. As for the principle of totality, an integrated Gestalt was formed by combining the stimulant elements of fashion ads and the brand schema of consumers. The principles of figure and background that were part of the perceptual organization theory enabled the consumers to pay attention to, choose and focus on some of the objects of perception in an easier and faster way. The principle of perceptual grouping was used to draw attention from the consumers by simplifying the objects of perception and then by combining them or making them look complete. Therefore the more advanced application of the principles and laws of Gestalt psychology is expected to make fashion consumers' way of looking at ads more well balanced and positive in a more efficient and convincing manner.
Wayfinding is a 'Process solving problem to find destination', and it is important to select spatial data for optimal way. Recently, due to the complexity of space and the expansion of the medium of the wayfinding service, it is necessary to the approach on the information design for them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a meta guideline on the information design for the design of orientation sign, which is an important cognitive clue in the wayfinding. It was conducted in 3 stages, First, a design process was proposed and design elements were derived for each step by literature research related to information and sign design, and analysis of manual for signage design. Second, a meta guideline for information organization and visualization in the three-stage design process was proposed by FGI and analysis. Third, the meta guideline was applied to the sign design on an area for user evaluation to inspect the applicability of the meta guideline. Through the user questionnaire, the possibility of applying the guideline for visualization of directions and spaces, information hierarchy according to spatial characteristics and information priority was identified. It is meaningful in that necessary element for signage design are systematized centering on the process and that it presents a macroscopic methodology according to spatial characteristics.
