  • This study was carried out to identify the factors which correlated with upper limb function after stroke and to analyze the effect of related factors on upper limb function. The 100 stroke patients(MMSE-K>24) were participated. The upper limb function according to gender, hand dominance, stroke type, affected location, site of paralysis, speech disorder showed no significant difference, and show significant difference according to shoulder subluxation. The upper limb muscle strength(Manual Muscle Testing), proprioception, muscle tone(Modified Ashworth Scale), grip strength(Dynamometer), paint (Visual Analog Scale) showed significant correlations with upper limb function. These predictors explained 77.6% of the upper limb function and the most significant affecting factor of upper limb function was upper limb muscle strength. In conclusion, the upper limb muscle strengthening will be effective strategy to improving the upper limb function and considering the proprioception, muscle tone, grip strength, pain, subluxation will be helpful to develop the strategies.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting clinical practice-related fatigue among undergraduate nursing students. The data were collected from a questionnaire distributed among 129 juniors and seniors (3rd and 4th year students) in nursing college at the G city, who were at the end of clinical practice. Multiple regression analysis found that the significant major predictors of clinical practice-related fatigue among nursing students were sleep quality (${\beta}=.30$), anxiety (${\beta}=.26$), exercise frequency (${\beta}=-.21$) and clinical practice stress (${\beta}=.19$). These variable factors could explain 33.6% of clinical practice-related fatigue among nursing students. This study suggests that sleep quality, anxiety, exercise frequency, and clinical practice stress are significant factors of clinical practice-related fatigue among nursing students. Therefore, strategies improving sleep quality and exercise and managing anxiety and stress should be developed to reduce the fatigue for nursing students during clinical exposure.

  • This study was to identify the relationship between health promoting behaviors and health related quality of life at acculturation environment of Chinese international students in Korea. From November 2010 to December 2011, 395 Chinese international students in undergraduate, masters or doctorate courses from 10 universities and graduate schools in Seoul and vicinity participated in self-report survey of the acculturation level, the health promoting behaviors and SF-12, the health related quality of life. The data of 395 students were classified to 3 groups based on the acculturation level. The low level group showed the health promoting behaviors strongly influence the physical component score of quality of life. As the acculturation level increased, the health promoting behaviors closely affected to the mental health-related quality of life. The results indicated that the acculturation level may be control variable to define the relationship between the health promoting behaviors and the health-related quality of life.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting the life satisfaction of patients with hemodialysis in order to improve the quality of life for patients with hemodialysis. The subjects of this study are 168 patients who have undergone hemodialysis treatment in the hemodialysis rooms in D-city and C-providence. The data are collected between August 20th to September 5th, 2015. By using SAS 9.3 statistics program for data analysis, frequency, ${\chi}^2$-test, variance analysis and multiple regression analysis are conducted. Based on the analysis, it is found that family support(t=5.33, p<.001) and self-efficacy(t=3.52, p<.001) are statistically significant to the quality of life for male patients. Family support(t=2.58, p<.012) and adherence to self-care(t=4.08, p<.001) are statistically significant to the quality of life for female patients. With the study results, it suggests that nurses can help improve the affective and psychological stability of patients with hemodialysis by recognizing the factors affecting the life satisfaction of patients with hemodialysis by gender, developing and utilizing a nursing intervention.

  • The present study comprehensively explored the experiences of cognitive decline and of overcoming such decline in climacteric women to gain a deeper understanding of these women's cognitive health issues. Fourteen climacteric women were recruited, and data were collected through in-depth qualitative interviews. The collected data were analyzed using phenomenological methods suggested by Colliazzi. The quality of the present study was further improved according to the evaluative criteria for rigor suggested by Lincoln and Guba. The interviews resulted in 210 statements, 43 significant statements, 17 themes, and 5 theme clusters. The theme clusters were "loss of memory and distraction in everyday life," "struggle to overcome," "greeting an inevitable guest," "conforming to life changes," and "dreams of the past and future plans." As they experienced menopause, the participating women experienced decline in memory and concentration, as well as problems communicating. Climacteric women experienced cognitive decline during menopause and made significant efforts to overcome it; therefore, effective programs that promote cognitive function and adaptation should be provided for climacteric women.

  • This study is to conduct a 12-month f/u survey on changes of metabolic syndrome (MetS) components according to the resting heart rate (RHR) in patients with essential hypertension (HTN) without cardiovascular disease (CVD) complication. We used the KorHR (Korean Hypertension Registry) data and a total of 951 subjects were analyzed using the R statistical program. As a result of this study, it was found that the risk and changes of MetS components differs according to the RHR group with first and revisit hypertensive patients. Therefore, guidelines for customized RHR control for first and revisit hypertensive patients should be prepared. Also, it is necessary to prepare various interventions to control the RHR. Through this, it is intended to prevent the occurrence of CVD caused by HTN, which is a representative chronic disease, to improve the quality of life of patients and their families as well as to contribute to increasing the efficiency in the health care.

  • The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of an offered blanket on the anxiety of patients undergoing brain MRI. The participants were 52 patients who underwent brain MRI in C university hospital of G city. Blanket was applied to the experimental group (n=26) before MRI. Data were collected from May to December 2015, and analysed using the chi-squared test, the independent t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the anxiety measured by STAI of the two groups. But, the level of anxiety measured by the visual analog scales was reduced in the experimental group (t=-2.75, p=0.008). There were no difference in the blood pressure and pulse rate in the experimental and control groups. Therefore, further study is needed to decrease the level of anxiety of patients undergoing brain MRI.
