  • It has been known that it shows the negative correlation between social comparison and happiness. Nevertheless, the correlation depends on self-concept and motivation of comparison which a person take. Current study examined the effect of cultural self-concept (interdependent self, subjective-objective self) on social comparison and happiness (subjective well-being and psychological well-being), Total 2000 among 30-69 years old respondents participated in this survey. We found that, first, people with high interdependent self feel less happiness as they take more social comparison, but the people with low interdependent self do not show the relational pattern. Second, people with objective self show the negative correlation with happiness and social comparison, but there is no correlation with happiness and social comparison among people with subjective self. The implication for study were discussed.

As a result, 1) parallel comparison and narcissism had a positive effect on the SNS upload attitude and intention, and the downward comparison had a negative effect on both SNS upload variable. Self-esteem had a positive effect only on the attitude of uploading SNS. Next, 2) self-esteem had a positive effect on both subjective well-being, while narcissism had a negative effect on stress, and parallel comparisons had a positive effect on life satisfaction. In other words, it was confirmed that comparisons with similar people had a positive effect on SNS upload behavior and their subjective well-being, while health care for self-show or recognition of others had a negative effect on their subjective well-being. The results of this study should be actively reflected not only for the marketing market but also for a media and cultural environment in which the MZ generation can lead a healthy life.

  • This study focused on the effects of median type on drivers' subjective sense of speed and the changes in this sense by driver age. Participants were 61 drivers: 20 young (aged 20-39 years), 19 middle-aged (40-59 years), and 22 older drivers (60+ years). The participants watched each of two driving scenarios, showing either a guardrail-equipped or a concrete median. The participants were asked to push a button when they perceived speeds of 60 km/h, 80 km/h, or 100 km/h. All drivers perceived higher speeds in the guardrail condition than in the concrete condition. Perceived speeds increased with driver age in both guardrail and concrete conditions. These results mean median type affects drivers' subjective sense of speed even as driver age increases, and that drivers' subjective sense of speed tends to increase with age.

  • This study utilized data from 1,068 women aged 40-59, drawn from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) conducted in 2020, to investigate factors impacting subjective health perception and health-related quality of life. Methodologically, STATA 15.0 was employed for complex sample mean and standard deviation calculations, complex sample weighted percentages, complex sample t-tests, and multiple regression analyses. Common factors influencing both subjective health and health-related quality of life included education level, household size, depression, and stress. Age, binge drinking, and physical activity were identified as factors influencing subjective health perception. Insurance type, employment status, and sleep disorders emerged as factors impacting health-related quality of life. Recognizing middle age as a crucial transitional phase into old age, the development of health policy programs aimed at enhancing subjective health and health-related quality of life during this period is deemed essential.
