  • This study was attempted to investigate the effect of the first clinical practice on the image of nurse and nursing professionalism of nursing students in the COVID-19 situation. The data were collected from 36 nursing college students using a structured questionnaire from June to July 2020 and analyzed by PASW 22.0. After the first clinical practice in the COVID-19 pandemic, the nurse image (t=-2.219, p=.034) and nursing professionalism(t=-3.444, p=.002) increased significantly compared to before practice. Social image (t=-3.113, p=.004), self-concept of the profession(t=-2.442, p=.021), social awareness(t=-3.829, p=.001) and professionalism of nursing(t=-2.299, p=.028) significantly increased after the first clinical practice. After the first clinical practice, nursing professionalism showed a significant positive correlation with image of nurse(r=.831, p<.001). The attitude of nurses to cope with COVID-19 positively influenced nursing students' nurse image and nursing professionalism. Therefore, it is expected that will be used as basic data for preparing educational strategies after COVID-19.

The data was collected by using self-reported questionnaires from October 1 to November 23, 2018. The data was then analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis with the PASW/WIN 20.0 program. Satisfaction with clinical practice was significantly different according to satisfaction with nursing as a major. Satisfaction with clinical practice had significant correlations with emotional intelligence, caring efficacy and resilience. The factors affecting the satisfaction with clinical practice were caring efficacy, resilience and emotional intelligence, and the explanatory power of these models was 43.4%. Therefore, these results imply the need to develop education programs to improve caring efficacy, resilience and emotional intelligence, because all of these factors will contribute to the nursing students' satisfaction of clinical practice.

A longitudinal survey was used to measure the changes on the scores of clinical competency, clinical confidence, critical thinking and problem solving ability of students(N=77) who had experienced simulation in the clinical practicum curricula throughout their junior and senior years. Variables were measured 4 times, at the beginning and the end of each year, and data were analyzed using repeated measures of ANOVAs. Clinical competency score in senior year improved significantly(t=-13.75, p<.001) whereas no significant changes in junior year. Clinical confidence and critical thinking disposition over 2 years showed significant increases(F=177.86, p<.001; F=247.79, p<.001, respectively). Problem solving ability increased throughout the junior and senior years, however, it did not make a significant difference at any point of measures.

  • This study was conducted to provide basic data for improving nursing management practice by comparing and analyzing the perceptions of nursing students and clinical instructors about the importance of the learning contents of nursing management and their practical experience. The final 343 copies were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and cross-analysis, targeting 4th-grade students and clinical instructors at three universities. Both nursing students and clinical instructors recognized 'communication', 'interpersonal relationship', 'responsibility', 'trust', and 'morality' as important factors in the evaluation items of practice. Among the top 10 most importantly recognized items among nursing-management practice learning content, six items ('infection control', 'nursing record management', 'patient nursing management', 'drug management', 'patient safety', and 'nursing malpractice') were matched in the two groups. Moreover, clinical instructors recognized that interpersonal relationships and relationship ethics were important, while nursing students chose legal responsibility. As a result of the practical experience analysis between the two groups, nursing students had high experience of indirect participation, but the clinical instructors had a high experience of direct instruction. A plan is needed to reduce the difference by establishing an organic partnership relationship between the university and practice institutions and increase the experience of direct practice of nursing students.
