  • The cell loss probability required in the ATM network is in the range of 10$^{-9}$ ∼10$^{-12}$ . If Monte Carlo simulation is used to analyze the performance of the ATM node, an enormous amount of computer time is required. To obtain large speed-up factors, importance sampling may be used. Since the Markov-modulated processes have been used to model various high-speed network traffic sources, we consider discrete time single server queueing systems with Markov-modulated arrival processes which can be used to model an ATM node. We apply importance sampling based on the Large Deviation Theory for the performance evaluation of, MMBP/D/1/K, ∑MMBP/D/1/K, and two stage tandem queueing networks with Markov-modulated arrival processes and deterministic service times. The simulation results show that the buffer overflow probabilities obtained by the importance sampling are very close to those obtained by the Monte Carlo simulation and the computer time can be reduced drastically.

  • In this paper, we consider a discrete-time two-phase queueing system. We derive the PCF of the system size and show that it is decomposed into two probabilty generating functions (PCFs), one of which is the PGF of the system size in the standard Ceo/G/1 queue. Based on this PGF, we present the performance measure of interest such as the mean number of customers In the system.

  • In this paper, we consider the delay-dependent robust stability condition for polytopic uncertain systems with interval time-varying delay using various combinations of quantization and overflow nonlinearities. A robust stability condition for uncertain systems with time-varying delay and quantization/overflow nonlinearities is proposed by LMI(linear matrix inequality) and Lyapunov technique. It is shown that the proposed method is less conservative compared to the recent results by numerical examples.

  • In this paper we consider the variable structure control for a class of discrete-time uncertain multivariable systems where the nominal system is linear. Discrete-time switching dynamics are introduced so that a new type of state trajectories called sliding mode may exist on the sliding surface by state feedback. The quantitative analysis for the matched uncertainties will show that every response of the system with the proposed switching dynamics is bounded within small neighborhoods of the state-space origin. Also, by the similarity transformation it will be shown that the eigenvalues of the closed-loop systems are composed of those of the subsystems which govern the range-space dynamics and null-space dynamics. It will be also shown that ideal sliding mode can be obtained in the absence of uncertainties due to one-step attraction to the sliding surface regardless of initial position of states. • A discrete state space model for a multiple-reach river system is formulated using the dynamics of biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) and dissolved oxygen(DO). A hierarchical optimization technique, which is applicable to large-scale systems with time-delays in states, is also described to control stream quality in a river as an optimal manner based on the interaction prediction method. The steady state tracking error of the proposed method is determined analytically and a necessary and sufficient condition on which a constant target tracking problem has zero steady-state error is derived. Computer simulations for the river pollution model illustrate the algorithm.

  • Singh's multi-level method is extended to the optimal tracking control of a large interconnected dynamical system which has coupled states and coupled inputs. The steady-state tracking error and a convergence condition for the extended multi-level method are derived analytically and the results show that the steady-state tracking error and a convergence rate have to be compromised. Also, a new multi-level method which is advantageous over the Singh's method in steady-state tracking error and computational burden is proposed by introducing nominal inputs into the performance index. The resulting feedback gain matrix and the compensation vector are optimal for all initial conditions so that eventual on-line computation is minimal.

  • A controller design problem for a discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy systems is discussed. The switching-type controller is employed in this study. A switching-type fuzzy-model-based controller is constructed based on the spirit of "devide and conquer". The design condition of this controller is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which guarantees the global stability of the controlled TS fuzzy systems. An example is included for ensuring the effecienct of the proposed control method.

  • This paper presents a discrete-time output feedback consensus algorithm for Multi-Agent Systems (MAS). Under the assumption that an agent is aware of the relative state information about its neighbors, a state feedback consensus algorithm is designed based on Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) method. In general, however, it is possible to obtain its relative output information rather than the relative state information. To reconcile this problem, an Unknown Input Observer (UIO) is employed in this paper. To this end, first it is shown that the relative state information can be estimated using the UIO and the measured relative output information. Then a certainty-equivalence type output feedback consensus algorithm is proposed by combining the LMI-based state feedback consensus algorithm with the UIO. Finally, simulation results are given to illustrate that the proposed method successfully achieves the state consensus.

  • In this paper, a novel and efficient discretization method of a continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system is proposed. Because of the highly complex and nonlinear interaction among the subsystems, it is very difficult to develop the discretized version of continuous-tine TS fuzzy system. More precisely, to obtain the suitable discretized version, it is necessary to solve two main problems: to discretize global state equations of the continuous-tine TS fuzzy system and to hold the polytopic structure after the discretization. This paper will show the solution to above two problems. Main key idea is to transforme the sampling period into the intersampling period. Finally, To show the feasibility and the validity of the proposed method, a computer simulation is provided.
