Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify differences in paramedic image and its determinants between paramedic and non-paramedic students. Methods: From September 18 to 26, 2013, data were collected from 146 universities students by using a self-reported questionnaire. Results: The mean paramedic image score was 4.22 for paramedic students and 3.89 for non-paramedic students. The paramedic students had a more positive paramedic image than the non-paramedic students. Among three subcategories of paramedic image, professional image was selected as the most positive factor. The determinants of paramedic image differed between the paramedic and non-paramedic students. The mean subjective determinants score showed higher than those of any other determinants for both student groups. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that practical strategies are needed to promote a positive paramedic image among non-paramedic students.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of flipped learning on paramedic students' self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy. Methods: A one-group pretest, posttest design was utilized for the 32 paramedic students who participated. The data were analyzed by employing paired t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient along with the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The scores of self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy significantly increased after flipped learning classes (t = -3.90, p<.05; t = -5.92, p<.05, respectively). Conclusion: Flipped learning is an effective intervention for improving self-directed learning and academic self-efficacy in paramedic education. In the long run, the application of flipped learning will play a role in improving the paramedic students' educational environment and strengthening the overall abilities of students.
Purpose: The study examined disaster recognition, disaster preparedness, and the willingness to participate in disaster response among healthcare students. It also identified the factors that can improve healthcare students' willingness to participate in disaster response. The purpose of this study was to analysis a Korean version of Satisfaction with Simulation Experience(SSE) Scale by paramedic students. Total number of 111 students majoring in the EMT-paramedic education area have taken part in the survey after completing the professional cardiac resuscitation simulative training, using the standardized simulation satisfaction evaluation method (SSE scale). Through the scale, one's preference, necessity, ACLS theory grade, and satisfaction rate per year regarding the training were measured. To analyze one's preference, necessity, ACLS theory grade, and satisfaction rate per year in regards to the training, one-way ANOVA was used. The result reveals that the overall satisfaction rate was generally quite high. When one's preference and necessity rate is high, the satisfaction rate also seems to increase. The result indicates that the simulation training will enhance the students' clinical skill, patient evaluation, and treatment capability as well as one's field adaptation skill at the time of an emergency occurrence. Eventually, training through the ACLS simulation will be used in the future for the benefit of encouraging students from emergency rescue to adapt to the site of an emergency. Therefore, such an education method should be maintained and further developed.

Purpose: We aimed to identify the awareness and reporting obligation attitude toward child abuse among paramedic students who will become paramedics in the future and play an important role as those with an obligation to report child abuse. Methods: Data were collected from the paramedic students after consent to this study through online. The period of data collection was from July 10 to August 2, 2023 and 142 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 program. Results: 79.6% of the subjects knew who was required to report child abuse, but only 46.5% knew the reporting agency, and 30.3% knew the reporting procedure. Additionally, 83.8% were willing to report child abuse when discovered. Awareness of child abuse was 4.58±0.29 points out of 5. The reporting obligation attitude toward child abuse was 3.53±0.74 out of 5. Awareness of child abuse was determined by whether one was required to report child abuse (p<.05), whether one was aware of the reporting procedure (p<.05), and whether one was willing to report child abuse (p<.05), there appeared to be a significant difference. Attitude toward reporting obligation regarding child abuse was determined by gender (p<.05), whether one was aware of the obligation to report child abuse (p<.05), and willingness to report upon discovery of child abuse (p<.01), it was found that there was a significant difference. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop realistic educational content that can be linked to suspected abuse sites in hospitals and out of hospitals so that students who will become paramedics in the future can play an active role as mandatory reporters of child abuse.

Purpose: This study aimed to provide basic data for infection control education plans based on infection control awareness and performance of paramedic students during clinical field training. Methods: Data were collected from paramedic students with experience in clinical field training. The data collection period was from May 4, 2023, to June 4, 2023, and 132 copies of the collected survey were analyzed using the SPSS27.0 program. Results: Infection control awareness and performance were 4.80±0.24 points and 4.49±0.55 points out of 5, respectively. The infection control awareness of the participants according to clinical field training-related characteristics differed significantly in university education before clinical field training (t=2.100, p=.038). In addition, there were significant differences in performance in the number of clinical field training sessions (F=9.149, p=.000), hospital education before clinical field training (t=5.365, p=.000), and hospital education during clinical field training (t=3.094, p=.002). Conclusion: Before clinical field training, schools should provide infection control education that combines theory and practice suitable for hospital practice so that students can complete the infection control education organized by the hospital. Furthermore, if a university develops infection control in the clinical field training guidelines, it will have a positive impact on students' infection control performance through prior education.
Purpose: This study sought to analyze perceptions and attitudes regarding patient personal information protection according to the general characteristics of paramedic students and their clinical practice experience. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the critical thinking disposition of paramedic students to their satisfaction with hospital clinical practice and intention of recommendation. As for data analysis, the statistical packages SPSS WIN 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 were employed, and frequency analysis, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis and structural equation modeling were utilized. Besides, Cronbach alpha coefficients were calculated to check item internal consistency. The level of significance was all set at .05. A survey was conducted to collect data from May 12 to August 25, 2012, and the answer sheets from 305 respondents were gathered and analyzed. The critical thinking disposition of the paramedic students was found to have a significant impact on their satisfaction with clinical practice, and the hypothesis about that was accepted. Their critical thinking disposition was found to exert a significant influence on their intention of recommendation as well, and the hypothesis about that was accepted. Finally, their satisfaction with clinical practice was found to affect their intention of recommendation in a significant way, and the hypothesis about that was accepted. The findings of the study suggested that in order to nurture professional and competent paramedics, the content of clinical practice should systematically be managed on a regular basis, and prolonged research efforts should be directed into program development.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to verify the necessity of endotracheal intubation through video laryngoscope and to provide basic data to inform the provision of video laryngoscope education. Methods: Eighty paramedic students participated in this study. A survey was conducted from November 5, 2018 to December 7, 2018. Data were analyzed with independent t-tests, and the chi-squared test. Results: The video laryngoscope is a highly usable instrument that can easily be applied during training. The instrument provides better visual evaluation of the normal airway (p=.004), the airway in case of cervical collar and head fixation (p=.000), and the airway in case of tongue edema (p=.000). The time of endotracheal intubation in the normal airway was significantly less with the video laryngoscope compared with the direct laryngoscope. The success rate of tracheal intubation was significantly higher in the video laryngoscope group than in the direct laryngoscope. Conclusion: This study suggests the necessity of education on endotracheal intubation through video laryngoscope in the professional airway maintenance training course of emergency department students. The video laryngoscope is easier to apply than the direct laryngoscope in cases of intubation in various clinical situations.
