  • The purpose of the study was to estimate the trajectories of elementary school adjustment in grades 1 through 4. For the purpose, the Korean Children's Panel data were analyzed using potential growth model and the growth mixture model. As the result, the linear model was selected as the optimal model. The four potential groups were derived as trajectories: high-level maintenance, low-level maintenance, low-level increase, and high-level decrease. In terms of group distribution, the most children were in high-level maintenance group and then low-level maintenance, low-level increase, and high-level decrease in order. Based on the findings that trajectories of elementary school adjustment changes as children growth, we suggest that schools and families need to carefully investigate and support their school adjustment in individual levels.

For the purpose of investigate the applicability of the developed program, the program was implemented with two groups of preschoolers and each group received the musical play program for 30 minutes twice a week for a total of 6 sessions. The results of this preliminary study indicate that the musical play program promoted interaction between peers from different cultural background. Based on the results of this study, musical play programs may be helpful in promoting interactions between preschoolers from different cultural backgrounds and increase of acceptance of immigrant students in Korean daycares and schools.

  • This study researched the meaning of the outdoor play spaces used by young children, as perceived by them and their teachers. For this purpose, indirect observation, nonformal interviews during the activity of young children and in-depth interviews with teachers were conducted in 3 kindergartens and 1 day care center which operate various programs. As a result, outdoor play spaces were recognized as a psychological space, expanded space and sequential space for the relationships of young children. Meanwhile, early childhood teachers perceived them as a functional space, expanded space and restricted space of the children's daily lives. It was recognized that outdoor play spaces provided the children with good and unstructured environments to reorganize their own daily pattern through expanded play and the chance to naturally form peer relationships. This suggests that the space configuration which is most suitable for child centered development is one that is formed within and by their daily lives, rather than the standardized configuration of outdoor play spaces.

Conclusion: To increase child safety seats configurations rate, available education is needed. For this, contents about child safety seats must be included for education leaving the hospital by nurses who work in nursery. For the consideration about child safety seats configuration rate, complement of the legal system and development of available protective equipment and economical support of the nation and the local community is needed.

  • This study examined how the learning styles and emotions of 234 students enrolled in early childhood education-related departments affected their ability to participate in the learning community. The research collected the variables of the pre-service early childhood teachers' ability to participate in the learning community, the emotions that they experienced while learning, and their learning styles. The collected data were analyzed through correlation analysis and regression analysis. The results indicate that the students' ability to participate in the learning community was positively correlated with the following: their analytical learning attitude (among learning styles); learning motivation; degree of preference for discussion and discussion types; positive and negative emotions, which are subcategories of learning emotion; and the degree of preference for experimentation and their practice type among teaching methods. Second, regression analysis showed that the students' ability to participate in the learning community could be predicted by negative emotion as a subcategory of their learning emotion, learning motivation, degree of preference for the experiment and practice type, their analytical learning attitude, and the degree to which students value studying the content of their major subjects.
