A Study on the Current Status of Domestic Science Museum: Focus on Organization, Operation, and Education (국내 중소 과학관 현황 분석: 과학관의 조직, 운영, 교육을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to investigate the current status of science museum in terms of evaluating its organization, management, and education program. The analytical framework developed for examination are as follows: First, the lack of professional staff in most target museums is the biggest impediment for domestic science museums to function properly. Second, funding has been very poor. Third, most museums failed to properly sustain exhibits, equipment, and facilities. Fourth, various advertising and marketing efforts for attracting more visitors are hardly done. And lastly, the domestic museums made little effort in pursuing research focusing on improving exhibitions and education program. Based on these findings, the future directions for domestic science museums to step-up opportunities have been discussed in this study.

  • Recently in Korea, the need has increased for the systematization of the qualifications of subject specialist librarians who have both knowledge and work experience on specific subject. The purpose of this study is to analyze the domestic situation of subject special library services as well as the education backgrounds or work experience of current subject librarians in Korea. At the end, the study attempts to suggest an appropriate framework for the qualification system establishment and operation in Korea based on the supply and demand analysis of domestic subject specialist librarians.

Improving the Port-Reception-Facility System (선박 배출 오염물질 항만처리시스템 확보방안 연구)

  • In this study, we sought to establish a vessel-discharge pollutant-treatment system recommended by IMO by first investigating advanced facilities overseas to help us understand and evaluate our domestic facility and needs. IMO recommends the installation and operation of port pollutant-storage facilities to adequately treat pollutants emitted by ships entering the port, and we reviewed the registration and operation of these facilities in IMO member countries, focusing on the IIII Code. Due to recent environmental regulations, additional facilities are required to treat the washing water discharged from equipment such as scrubbers mounted on the ship so pollutant-storage facilities must be established. Currently, Korea's ship-discharged wastes are being moved from ports to land waste-treatment plants, and their quantity and properties are not being monitored. Therefore, in this study, we improved monitoring of the discharged pollutants and investigated the proper arrangement of pollutant storage facilities as recommended by IMO. The system we established can help provide smooth service to incoming ships - and appropriate treatment of pollutants and will greatly benefit international maritime operations.

Research on the State of utilization of Green School and Suggested Improvements ; Focusing on the Analysis of Case (그린스쿨 활용실태 분석과 개선방안 ; 사례분석을 중심으로)

  • The aims of this research are investigating and analysing background, enforcement situation, distinct features and current status of green schools which have been conducted by the government targeting decrepit schools. Based on this investigation and analysis the solution for vitalizing green schools will be sought because green schools are more effective in reducing energy and greenhouse gas and they are more appropriate methods for schools. With internal and external literature reviews the concept and background of overseas green school policies and their similarities and differences are analyzed. Based on the investigation into current status of green schools in Korea and eco-schools and super eco-schools in Japan which are benchmarking objects of green schools project in Korea the problems and outcomes of green schools in Korea are diagnosed. By analyzing cases of eco-schools and super eco-schools in Japan implications for introducing to Korea are considered. Based on the aforementioned researches this study suggests the improvement plan for vitalizing green schools project and similar projects.

Analysis of Realities of Organization and Implementation of Integrated Science of the 2015 Revised Curriculum (2015개정 교육과정의 통합과학 과목 편성·운영 실태 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how Integrated Science, a new subject introduced under the 2015 revised curriculum, was implemented in 2018 when it was first enacted at the school level. Through a survey of 258 high school science teachers, we explored how Integrated Science was organized and implemented at the school level, how teaching & learning and assessment were conducted in Integrated Science courses, how teachers' learning communities were operated, what kinds of support are required for the settlement of Integrated Science, etc. Major results are as follows: A similar ratio is found between schools with eight units and schools with six units of integrated science, and in about 2/3 of surveyed schools, multiple teachers are in charge of Integrated Science lessons per classroom. In addition, lecture-type teaching methods are still dominant in the majority of the classes, and science teachers have difficulties with lack of understanding of non-major areas or burden of designing integrated teaching depending on their teaching experiences, and so on. Discussed and suggested in the conclusion are ways to raise awareness of curriculum integration, ways to support for activation of teacher learning communities, ways to support the settlement of Integrated Science, and reexamining the system of science teacher certification.

  • Due to floating marine debris, seabed litters, dead shellfishes and polluted sediments, etc. , which are mainly caused by fishery activities in a large scale around the coastline, expansion of industrialized areas from economic development and drastic increase of free time by the improved standard of living, Korean coast is believed to be cast beyond the self purification of marine ecosystem. Seabed litters, if not remedied in a timely manner, will eventually lead to the overall disorder of benthic ecosystem. Thus, in order to prevent marine ecosystem from being thrown into confusion by seabed litters and to restore ocean environments, it is reasonable to investigate the current status of the seabed litters by carrying out an extensive examination on them and to equip ourselves for marine debris with an systemized tool that provides supports to the building process of an efficient methodology of litters disposal through managing related data appropriately. As an primary step to this goal, a systematic method of investigation is presented in this paper. With this methodology, the present state of the seabed titters is properly understood for the specified list of ports.

Promoting Resource Sharing among Government-Sponsored Economic and Social Research Institutes Focusing on IKIS (Institute Knowledge Inventory System) (경제사회 분야 정부 출연 기관의 오픈 액세스 기반 지식 공유 활성화 연구 - IKIS를 중심으로 -)

  • Motivated by the open access movement, research institutions are building Institutional repositories for a nation-wide knowledge distribution infrastructure. IKIS (Institute Knowledge Inventory System) was proposed to integrate materials produced by government-sponsored 23 institutions of the economic, social and human fields, to contribute for policy-making in national agenda and to proffer services to a people. As IKIS project goes on. the project turns out to be slower than planned especially In terms of building up content and improving system functions. This study aims to investigate the methods for promoting the system in terms of management and system developments using multiple research methods such as surveys and interviews. Five issues including budgets and marketing are proposed for the management strategies, whereas three ones Including content and system performance improvements are suggested for the system development. The study results can be utilized as guidelines for managing university and school repositories as well as IKIS.

An Analysis on The National Project to Promote Management of Private Forest Management Cooperatives : Actual State of Its Management and Cognition of Its Members (협업체(協業體) 운영(運營)에 대한 참여산주(參與山主)들의 인식(認識)과 정책적(政策的) 추진실태(推進實態)에 관한 분석(分析))

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the actual state of the national project to promote the management of Forest Management Cooperatives(FMC). To fulfil the objective, we have reviewed recent statistics, regulations, and publications related with FMC and interviewed officials and professionals engaged in FMC-related organizations. Also cognition of members on the actual state of the management of FMC's was studied by a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was designed to get understandings of the general cognition of FMC's members associated with forest management and FMC's management activities. According to the results of the survey, more than 50% of members are not interested in forest management and most of them are not satisfied with the activity of FMC. In this paper, the results of analyses for the survey are discussed in detail. On the other hand, statistics indicate that the basic policy for FMC contributes to rapid growth in the number of local FMC's. However, the increase of FMC's has negative effect on management conditions of existing FMC's because of reduced budget allocation from the government. In addition, we concluded that some parts of current regulations for FMC are unfavorable in promoting the spontaneous management activities of local FMC's.

A Study on the Clinical Practice in Ophthalmic Optics (안경광학과 임상실습 실태에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: To understand the status and actual condition of clinical practice in ophthalmic optics and offer a effective operation plan and improvement of quality of clinical practice. Methods: The school survey were investigated from 30 ophthalmic optics school and student survey were investigated from 161 students among these 4 schools. Results: 'No specific program for clinical practice' were 60.7%. Most schools apply clinical practice to credit (96.4%) but naming of subject and credit were varied in each school. 'Communication skill' was most difficult task and 'cleaning and arrangement of frame and stuff' were major task to students during clinical practice. Best benefits through clinical practice was 'knowing real status of optical business'. Comparison in carrier preference, optical shop and spectacles/contact lens company were decreased and eye hospital and norelation work were increased after clinical practice. Conclusions: Wide study on effective operation plan for clinical practice in ophthalmic optics and on the improvement of students' satisfaction and close cooperation and interest were needed between schools and clinical practice places.

제주지역 중학교 학생들의 환경문제에 대한 의식 조사

  • 제주지역 중학교 학생들의 환경문제 및 환경교육에 대한 인식 및 실태를 파악하고자 하였다. 전국 중학교 환경교과 선택현황을 지역별로 비교해보면, 부산 55.4%, 충북43.9%, 대구 21.7%, 제주 11.9% 순으로 부산이 가장 높은 선택율을 보였고, 그 외의 지역에서는 환경교과를 선택하는 비율이 모두 10% 이하로 나타났따. 제주도에는 전체 42개(제주시 27, 서귀포 15)의 중학교가 설립 ${\cdot}$ 운영되고 있으며, 그 중 제주시에는 3개교에서만 환경교과를 선택 과목으로 가르키고 있었다. 환경문제에 대한 정보습득 방법으로 전체 응답자의 70.2%가 TV, 라디오, 신문 등 언론 매체에 의해서 습득하였고, 학교교육에 의해서 습득한 경우는 1.5%로 극히 미비하여 학생들이 학교 환경교육보다 언론 매체를 통하여 환경문제를 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 정보추구의식으로 언론매체를 이용한 환경관련 프로그램의 시청 여부를 살펴보면, 보편적으로 여학생이 남학생보다, 그리고 저학년일수록 환경 프로그램을 관심있게 보는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고, 환경문제의 지식정도를 살펴보면, 전체적으로 평균 3.21개의 용어를 설명할 수 있다고 표시하여 대다수의 학생들이 이들 용어들을 모르고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
