  • To propose a basis for the selection of personal dosimeters to measure radiation dose administration of radiation workers as a way to evaluate the usefulness dosimeter. For the dosimetry of the radiation workers 2012, during 1 year, 30 were radiation workers to measure personal dose. By personal exposure is measured cumulative dose, is investigated the performance of the TLD, PLD, OSLD. And comparing the measured value of each dosimeter dose and analyzed. Medical institutions, inspection work and quarterly confirmed the cumulative exposure dose of radiation workers. Using DAP and Ion-Chamber, to measure to compare TLD, PLD, OSLD dosimeter performance. A comparison of the directly through the X-ray dosimeter and The absolute value of the Ion-Chamber, OSLD more similar than in the TLD and PLD showed the dose values so the excellent ability to measure the results. Also in radiation generating area dose of radiation workers is higher than that in OSLD. Consequently, in terms of the individual exposure management OSLD is appropriated and beneficial than others.

  • Panasonic UD-809P type albedo neutron TL dosimeters mounted on a water phantom were used to measure neutron personal dose equivalent in a Korean nuclear power plant. From the measured TL readings, personal dose equivalents from thermal, epithermal and fast neutrons were evaluated by using a method adopted in a neutron dose calculation algorithm for Panasonic UD-809P type albedo neutron TL dosimeters, which was suggested in a Panasonic TLD System User's Manual. The results showed that personal dose equivalent from fast neutrons could not be adequately evaluated in a field with high thermal neutron fraction to be encountered in a nuclear power plant. This seems to be related to the incomplete incidence of albedo thermal neutrons to the TL dosimeters. In order to evaluate appropriately the personal dose equivalent from fast neutrons in the field condition, new method fer the neutron dose calculation algorithm was suggested. In this new method, neutrons are grouped into thermal neutrons and fast neutrons. For each neutron component, equations for TL response, sensitivity factor, calibration factor and personal dose equivalent were derived.

  • For the dosimetry of the radiation workers, film badge, Thermo Luminescent Dosimeter (TLD), and glass dosimeter are being used and recently, there is a growing trend of using Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimeter (OSLD) in the world. However, OSLD is only being applied some of the field in Korea and there has been almost no study made related to OSLD. Thus, the accumulated radiation dose of TLD and OSLD that have been most frequently used in the field was compared in the radiation workers of nuclear medicine and their working areasfor 3 months. As a result, the average surface dose showed 0.85 mSv difference with 1.27 mSv for TLD and 2.12 mSv for OSLD while having 0.73 mSv difference for the average depth dose with 1.33 mSv for TLD and 2.06 mSv for OSLD. The surface dose and depth dose of OSLD showed statistically significant result with higher measurement (p<0.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an algorithm of TLD dose evaluation to meet all requirements stated in ANSI N13. 11-1983. It made the PB-3 TLD of Teledyne Isotopes an object of the development. Personal dosimetry performance testings of the development algorithm have been performed twice through the Atlan-Tech, INC. in accordance with the criteria of testing described in ANSI N13. 11-1983. As ,a result, it is assured that the developed algorithm has complied with all requirements stated in ANSI N13. 11-1983.

  • Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a Ministerial Ordinance (No 1992-15) about the technical criteria on personnel radiation dosimetry. In today's climate, it is important to demonstrate and document that the processor's systems and services to others meet national standards of quality. The purpose of this study is to verify the performance of the Teledyne PB-3 personnel dosimetry system that is generally used in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) by intercomparison with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The KAERI has been participated in this personnel dosimetry intercomparison study(PDIS) program since 1991 and it could be possible to test and calibrate personnel monitoring system. This report presents a summary and analysis of by about 50 dose equivalent measurements reported for PDIS-16 through 18 (1991 -1993) with emphasis on neutron dose equivalent sensitivity, accuracy and precision. Relationships of the PDIS results to occupational neutron monitoring and methods to improve personnel dosimetry performance are also discussed.

  • TLD and film badges have been traditionally used as formal dosimeters in personal monitoring and are still most widely used. Recently, electronic personal dosimeters based upon Si diode or miniature G-M tube were developed and are getting attractions due to their merits of active nature ; indication of dose rates and the commutative dose, and facilitation of record keeping and radiological control. Response characteristics of the electronic dosimeters including reproducibility, accuracy, linearity, energy and angular dependencies, detection threshold, and response time were examined for three commercial types ; EPD2, STEPHEN6000, and PD-3i. The results were compared with the relevant requirements of IEC standards and Ontario Hydro standards to conclude that their general performances were good. Some specific deficiencies, e.g. incapability of shallow dose measurement of STEPHEN6000, and PD-3i, however, should be corrected to be used as a formal dosimeter.
