  • There is an increasing concern about computer education with the age of knowledge-based society. The learning programming language is taking an important role of computer education. However, the special emphasis in learning programming language has been attached to memorizing the programming language by rote and learning computer programs. Therefore, those were not much useful tools to develope a logical intelligence of the meanings of programming language and the methods of realization. It is positively necessary to improve the programming education efficiently because of the objects of knowledge of computing and raising an efficiency of problem solving. Under the circumstances, this research is aimed at representing an useful education model through developing a mathmatical program into each part of the C programming language, which would be a new supplier of an basic insight into the programming language and techniques. Accordingly it is thought that the research material will be an useful model to increase interests and concerns as well as to raise an efficiency of problem solving or a logical intelligence going through the process of studying programming language.

  • Virtual Robot Education System (VRES), which is for programming education with a Lego Mindstorm NXT robot, is designed and implemented. Through this system, program learners can edit source code, compile, download it into the robot, and run their executive program. In order to observe it, the system includes web cameras and provide monitoring services. Thus, students are able to verify the operation of robot into which they download their program in detail and to debug if necessary. In addition, we design a new simple user-friendly programming language and a corresponding compiler for it. With those tools, learner can more easily create programs for NXT robot and test them than Java language. A educator can control and manage the robot for the subject of a class with direct control mode of our system. Therefore, the proposed system is able to support students to learn robot programming during or after regular classes with web browsers through Internet.

The Comparison of Students Grade Level on the Integrated Learning Program for Mathematical Problem Solving using EPL (EPL을 활용한 수학문제해결 통합교육프로그램의 학년 수준 비교)

  • In this paper, we proposed the integrated education program of informatics and math for solving problem using EPL. We applied a integrated math curriculum with EPL and analyzed mathematical thinking and attitude to the 3rd and 5th students. We used mathematical thinking test, mathematical attitude test and interview through student review. We also analyzed data of observers who are elementary school teachers. The results of test are as follows; First, we found effective points of meta-cognition and visualization of thought in solving the mathematical problem using Scratch. Second, mathematical thinking and attitude showed the result that 3rd grade students are more increased than 5th grade students in pre and post t-test of the mathematical. Consequently, we expect that the integrated education program of informatics and math using EPL can be applied to solve problem in math effectively.

Analysis on Gifted Class in Mathematics using Flanders Category System (Flanders 언어상호작용 분석법을 활용한 수학영재 수업 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide useful information for improving interaction between teacher and student by analysing gifted class in mathematics with the Flanders Category System. Research questions are as follow. In gifted class in mathematics, How is the result of analysis regarding interactions between the teacher and students, according to 1) Flanders' Coding system? 2) Flanders' language pattern? 3) Flanders' Index system? For this, 3 gifted classes in mathematics were recorded by video camera and analyzed by Advanced Flanders(AF) analysis program version 3.54. Results are as follow. 1) Code Category Analysis mostly consists of lecture, voluntary speaking and chaos, silence work. 2) Most class patterns are not in accordance with effective class pattern models. So teacher needs to accept student's opinion actively and give appropriate feedback. 3) In Indices Results, revised I/d ratio, teacher's question ratio, student's speaking ratio, Student question and wide answer ratio are higher than analysis standard, indirect ratio is lower than analysis standard.

A Task Centered Scratch Programming Learning Program for Enhancing Learners' Problem Solving Abilities (문제해결력 향상을 위한 과제 중심 스크래치 프로그래밍 학습 프로그램)

  • Programming learning may help to enhance learners' complex problem solving abilities. However, it may cause excessive cognitive loads for learners. Therefore, selection of programming tools and design of teaching and learning strategies to minimize the learners' cognitive loads and to maximize the learning effects. A task centered Scratch programming learning program was developed to enhance problem solving abilities of middle school students. And then, we implemented the developed program in middle school programming classes and analysed the educational effects of the developed program. We found that the developed program was helpful in enhancing learners' problem solving abilities, especially in the element of 'troubleshooting', which explains ability of error detecting and correcting.

  • In this paper, a new viewpoint and practical education method were presented on educational culture related to today's religions and media. For this purpose, this paper considered the theories of religious media pedagogic and the concept of symbo1ic didactics relating to religious symbols in popular culture. In this paper, a total of eight cases of applying symbolic didactics were developed using the example of "The Da Vinci Code", based on the theoretical framework of religious media education and symbolic didactics. For this, the education methods and contents of religious media education were integrated with the teaching plan model of "action and development oriented media education". In order for this education to be applied effectively, experimental studies have to be carried out verifying the learning effects regarding this education. In particular, education for teachers who will tarry out this education is needed. This is because, in media education, the efficiency of education is significantly affected by the capacity of the one who is teaching.

The Effects of Algorithm Learning with Squeak Etoys on Middle School Students' Problem Solving Ability (Squeak Etoys 활용 알고리즘 학습이 중학생의 문제해결력에 미치는 영향)

  • Many former researchers demonstrated that algorithm learning has a positive outcome on students' problem-solving abilities. One of the methods for algorithm learning, the 'programming learning' method is highly effective. However, there are numerous constraints in schools for programming learning. This study attempts to overcome these issues. Squeak Etoys, one of the educational visual programming languages for easy and interesting learning, has been selected as a learning tool. We developed the algorithm-learning curriculum for middle school students. They were divided into a control group and an experimental group. The students learned on the basis of equal curriculum but, they used other learning tools through over a total 6 sessions. The result showed that Squeak Etoys based Algorithm learning has a positive effect on improving middle school learners' problem solving abilities, self-efficacies and logical thinking abilities. Although the students' logical thinking abilities in the experimental group are improved a lot more than the students' abilities in control group, the students' logical think abilities in the both groups are improved. Therefore, algorithm education in secondary schools are necessary. In conclusion, Squeak Etoys based Algorithm learning has a positive effect on problem solving ability and self efficacy. The developed curriculum can be applicable as a basis for study on algorithm learning and educational programming language.

A Study on the Effect of Montessori-Education Program on Preschooler Multiple Intelligences (몬테소리 교육프로그램이 유아의 다중지능에 미치는 효과 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how Montessori-education program, one of different early-childhood education programs, was tied into the multiple intelligences of young children and how Montessori education program affected their multiple intelligences. It's basically meant to determine the efficiency of Montessori-education program. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, the Montessori-education program turned out to have a favorable effect on the development of the young children's multiple intelligences. Second, among the subfactors of multiple intelligences, the musical and bodily-kinesthetic intelligences of the preschoolers were little affected by the Montessori-education program, but that had a good impact on their logical-mathematical, spatial, linguistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist intelligences. The above-mentioned findings suggested that Montessori-education program was one of efficient teaching methods to step up the development of young children's multiple intelligences.

  • Research on software education and linking and convergence of other subjects has been mainly focused on mathematics and science subjects. The dissatisfaction of various preferences and types of learning personality cause to learning gap. In addition, it is not desirable considering the solution of various fusion problems that can apply the computational thinking. In this way, it is possible to embrace the diverse tendencies and preferences of students through the linkage with the English subject, which is a linguistic approach that deviates from the existing mathematical and scientific approach. By combining similarities in the process of learning a new language of English education and software education. For this purpose, based on the analysis of teaching - learning model of elementary English subject and software education, we developed a class model by modifying existing English subject and software teaching - learning model to be suitable for linkage. Then, the learning elements applicable to software education were extracted from the contents of elementary school English curriculum, and a program applied to the developed classroom model was designed and the practical application method of learning was searched.

Development of Teacher Questioning for Improvement of Scientific Creativity and Its' Application - Case Study for Earth Science Class in High School - (과학적 창의성 신장을 위한 교사발문의 개발 및 적용 - 고등학교 지구과학 교과 중심으로 -)

  • This study aimed at designing an effective earth science instruction which would help to improve students' scientific creativity using the questioning strategies. The developed questioning strategies were applied to 153 students of $10^{th}{\sim}11^{th}$ grades from March, 2004 to February, 2006. The Reaction Evaluation of Educational Program was used for students' reponses on these questioning strategies. And the Creativity Test developed by the Korea Institute for Aptitude Test was used for the changes of students' scientific creativity. The students responded that these questioning strategies improved students' scientific creativity, and those did not promoted interaction between the teacher and the students. After implementing these questioning strategies, students' analogical ability of language was evaluated the largest score among the 6 categories of scientific creativity. The survey about students' scientific creativity showed that there are meaningful differences between before and after implementing these questioning strategies : analogical ability of figure, analogical ability of language, reading comprehension ability.
