  • This study analyzed statistically the determinants that affect the royalties of knowledge technology transfer, which accounts for a considerable portion of university technology transfer. As knowledge technology transfer certainly includes a move from tacit knowledge from one side to the other side per se, the scope of knowledge technology transfer is unclear and numerical information of technology transfer, such as research fund scale, which is used widely in previous studies, cannot be used in the analysis. Therefore, this study focused on the researcher characteristics and included its explanatory variables in the present study. In addition, it included the technical characteristics of the knowledge transferred and the characteristics of the contracting company. The knowledge maturity calculated from the appointment year and contract date positively affects the technology royalties, but work experience and patent activity of the researcher are not statistically significant. Statistically significant differences in the technology royalty according to the type of technology transfer and the company location were observed, but there was no meaningful change in the technology royalty depending on the technical field and company business scale.

  • The OECD estimates that a high concentration of intangible capital is in the richest countries of the world. Studies show that intangibles have a positive relation with economic growth. However, different types of intangibles can have different impacts on economic performance. Therefore, this paper attempts to distinguish the differences within the intangibles in influencing economic growth by analyzing three different characteristics of the intangibles. Three main types of intangibles (computerized information, innovative property and economic competencies) are analyzed based on the degree of tacitness, the process of creation and diffusion, and the level of embedded value-added. This research uses Polanyi's classification of tacitness of knowledge, the Nonaka-Takeuchi Model and the "smiling curve" to find that not only investing more in intangible capital but also developing more "tacit" type of intangibles are important for economic growth.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the established research practices and managerial methods on the range of Knowledge that have been independently studied from the conventional information system (libraries) and the managerial information system (MIS, DSS and EIS) within the quantitative and the non-quantitative perspective. The information systems were developed through their own purpose since the 1950s and these days the corporate environments have become integrated due to the rapid creation and expansion of information. Therefore, to make fast decisions in this situation it is appropriate that these two systems, Library and the managerial information system, should be dealt within the same category. In other words, not only the quantitative data that become main sources of DSS or EIS, but also the qualitative data such as the text documents, video and audio data, which have been managed in the libraries and information centers and not extracted from the former, can be used as the new knowledge source. Also BSS/EIS can provide the splendid infrastructure for Knowledge Management(KM) while libraries/information centers manage the comprehensive range of explicit and tacit knowledge, which can be a facilitator or main driver for KM.

  • This study inquired following research questions by a narrative research method : What was the job of an engineer in mechanical design field? How did he fulfill his job-related learning in his workplace? What were the context and the characteristic of the job-related learning in the workplace? And some implications of the job-related learning on engineering education were discussed. We identified that the research participant's career as a mechanical engineer has developed through three stages. At first, he engaged on conceptual design of a semi-conductor test machine through self-initiated learning from basic to whole system of the machine. At second stage, he leaded a design group for the concrete design of a ball type semi-conductor test machine. In this stage he learned the meaning of cooperation and cooperative learning. At third stage, he initiated to found an entrepreneur company that was specified to design a semi-conductor test machine. He became CEO of the company. He learned the R & D policy making through contacts with global company, visiting exhibition in abroad. Eventually his main task as a mechanical engineer was the problem solving in the process of machine design. He had experienced and learned through his works : project management, independent fulfilling of tasks, functional analysis and reverse engineering, conceptualizing and test, cohesive cooperation, dialogue and discussion, mediation of conflict, human relationship, leadership. The implication of the narrative analysis on engineering education is, proposed, to give the students more chances to experience and to learn such activities.

  • Human networks can be an important means of solving various information problems including tacit knowledge, as an essential channel of knowledge sharing. Particularly, in the case of a teacher librarian(or librarian) of a school library composed of one person in the organization, the human networks for work can be more effective with people outside the organization who are in charge of the same duties than with members inside the organization. Thus, this study aims at exploring the characteristics of the personal networks related to the work of teacher librarians and understanding the effect of these network characteristics on job satisfaction and role ambiguity resolution. A survey was conducted on one of the teacher librarian associations in Seoul, and the collected data were analyzed using social network analysis(SNA) method. As a result, it was found that personal networking of teacher librarians is active in experienced teacher librarians, while those with shorter career have fewer channels of help-seeking. Also, the characteristics of personal networking do not affect job satisfaction and the resolution of role ambiguity. Based on these results, this study proposes the expansion of collaborating and networking among teacher librarians to solve information problems in a single-person workplace.

  • This paper is about didactical transposition, which is to transpose academic knowledge into practical knowledge intended to teach. The research questions are addressed as follows. 1. Are the 13 mathematics textbooks of the 10-Na level indisputable regarding with the didactical transposition, in terms that the order of arrangement and the way of explaining the knowledge of trigonometric functions being analyzed and that its logical construction and students' understandings are considered? 2. Can some transpositions for easier use of didactical manipulative, for more practical and for more principle based be proposed? To answer these questions, this research examined previous studies of mathematics education, specifically the organization of the textbook and the trigonometric functions, and also compared orders of arranging and ways of explaining trigonometric functions from the perspective of didactical transposition of 13 versions of the 10-Na level reorganized under the 7th curriculum. The paper investigated what lacks in the present textbook and sought a teaching guideline of trigonometric functions(especially about sector and graph, period, characters of trigonometric function, and sine rule).

  • Against Nonaka's seminal work in 1999, this study aims to investigate various influencing factors on knowledge-transfer channels of Korean academics. To do this, we surveyed 20,000 Korean academics in science and engineering with regard to factors involved in their formal and informal collaborative activities with firms. In particular, we focus on the individual characteristics of the academics when the channels are changed from informal channels (e.g. consulting) to formal channels (e.g. licensing), as the codification of knowledge is important when it is spilled over. According to the results, male academics with a longer career and in the field of applied disciplines in a big laboratories are likely to join the transformation of the channels. Interestingly, application capacity as measured by the number of patent application is significantly and positively related to the participation of formal channels. In contrast, scientific capacity as measured by the number of papers is significantly and negatively, or in some case weakly, related to the participation. Finally, based on the findings, some policy implications are put forwarded.

  • Because it is difficult to respond to a constantly changing environment with individual ability and creativity alone, many organizations are forming teams and seeking ways to make the teams more active. Team learning behavior allows team members to and create better performance based on such accumulated knowledge and experience within a team. In particular, the process of team learning not only explicit and formalized knowledge but also implicit and informal experiences is important from the perspective of knowledge management. However, there were limitations in utilizing research results on team learning behavior because the concepts were fragmented and the measurements were different for each researcher. In this study, an integrated model was presented by examining concepts related to team learning behaviors. Moreover, the measurement model of team learning behaviors was validated for the Korean context. The measurement model consisted of five factors: sharing and elaboration, constructive conflict, team reflection, team activity, and storage and utilization. This tool was confirmed through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The results of this study are expected to have implications for team researchers and practitioners who diagnose and improve the level of team learning behavior within an organization.

  • Given that less attention has been paid to teachers than students in mathematics education, this study attempted to provide theoretical foundations to understand better mathematics teacher learning and teaching practice in transition. First, this paper summarized three conceptions of teacher learning on the basis of the relationships of knowledge and practice followed by several implications to mathematics teacher education. Second, this paper provided a brief overview of cognition as situated, social, and distributed. This paper then explored new implications and issues about mathematics teacher learning that the overview brought to light. It is expected for teacher educators and researchers to participate in rich discussion of many implicit issues about teacher learning that this paper begins to raise.
