The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of bibliotherapy for developing children's social competence. Specifically, this study investigated the relationship between bibliotherapy and social competence for elementary school children. In this study, social competence includes self-esteem, self-control, peer-relationship. As a result, bibliotherapy was significantly to related to self-control, self-esteem, peer-relationship. These results will be contributed to learn and develop social competence through bibliotherapy.

In 1944 Hans Asperger reported odd bizzare 400 children who showed autism like clinical symptoms but had higher intelligence and relatively intact speech function. He named these child 'autistic psychopathy'. Since them there were many controversial views about this syndrome. Some regards Asperger syndrome as the high functioning autism variant or preschizophrenic childhood condition or childhood form of schizoid personality disorder. Though there were still many controversy, recently ICD-10, DSM-IV accepted Asperger's syndrome as a distinct subtype of pervasive developmental disorder. The authors reviewed the history and conceptual changes of Asperger syndrome and summarized the interesting recent research findings. In addition, the authors argue that this syndrome has some linkage with autism and schizoid personality disorder and proposed that these is disorders do have common defect in social instinctual development.

In this study, a prediction model for depression among parents with disabled children was developed by verifying the effects of social support and family resilience. One hundred forty one parents with disabled children were recruited from three out-patient clinics of rehabilitation hospitals in D city between August and September, 2014. The instruments used were the QRS, CES-D, MSPSS, and KFSS-II. The average score of depression was 20.18/60. The levels of depression were significantly different among variables, e.g., sex, age, and monthly income. The mean scores of the item for social support and family resilience were 3.11/5 and 3.32/5, respectively. Family resilience differed significantly according to monthly income. Parental depression was negatively correlated with the social supports and family resilience. Social support was correlated positively with family resilience. In conclusion, family resilience and social support are predictable factors for depressed parents with disabled children.

This study attempts to identify the professional competency of local children's centers' workers, and examine their impact on case management performance. To achieve the purpose of this study, 189 children's centers' workers with 2 or more years of experiences in Busan and Gyeongnam areas participated in the research. The results showed that the professional skills and capabilities of workers have substantial impact on case management performance. Moreover, the study also proved that social work values have a moderating effect in the practice. This study suggested that for the purpose of improving the competency and professional practice in local children's centers, it is necessary to equip workers with specified education programs and effective law manuals.

Early diagnosis of autism and intervention of medical treatment are very significant to develop specific social communication skill for children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs). But they have difficulties in medical treatment because of lack of a public welfare institution and special medical system. In particular, few children can access such treatment and the existing single-therapist clinics are inefficient with regard to cost and time. Therefore, new methods should be studied for developing various products, services, and systems for autistic children. This study discusses the potential use of an interactive design as assistive technology for such children. We utilize the experience gained in the collaborative design of the interactive therapy system (ITS). The key methods include a collaborative design with rapid interactive prototyping, heuristic evaluation, user-centered process, VR technology, tangible interface, and scenario-based contents. We applied these methods to the ITS and proved the efficiency of interactive design as an assistive technology through clinical experimentation.

This study aims to investigate prejudiced descriptions of adoption and adoptive families in the major textbooks in the field of child and family welfare studies. To this end, we analyzed the compositions and contents of eleven different textbooks and found four necessary changes to recommend: first, we found it essential for authors to have a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of the open adoption culture and adoptive families. Second, we observed the need for the revision of prejudiced terminology found in textbooks' descriptions of adoptive families - about adopters, adoptees, and adoption institutions. Third, we advise an enhancement in the understanding of adoptive families reflecting both qualitative and quantitative understandings of the open adoption culture and perspective about social prejudice against adoptive families. Finally, we advocate for the inclusion adoptive families as one of the diverse forms a family can take, not only in the curriculum of child (children's rights) studies but also in the curricula of other family-related disciplines such as family welfare and healthy family theory. Based on these four changes, we propose a new approach to authoring including a multifaceted review of the subject composition and the content of the major textbooks and revision of the overall contents of the textbooks.

The foster care system is a social welfare service that supplements the functions of the family while enabling children, who cannot receive proper care from their biological parents, to receive the necessary protection under the plan within the prescribed period of time within a substitute or foster family. A large part of the emotional instability experienced by foster care children is interpersonal maladjustment. Low self-esteem leads to difficulty in forming social relationships due to negative interpersonal relationships. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of traditional dance programs on the foster children who live in Daejeon Metropolitan City. A comparison between the pre- and post-interpersonal scores showed that the scores were improved after the traditional dance program, and the children's intimacy formation and communication were also improved. The participants were less active at the beginning of the program, but became more interested and more active toward the middle of the program. The majority of the participants increased their degree of communication with the formation of intimacy toward the middle of the program, and their self-confidence improved in terms of their peer relationships. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of traditional dancing on the development of interpersonal relationships. In a subsequent study, a traditional dancing program consisting of various contents will be applied over a long period of time, which should provide them with the opportunity to improve their interpersonal skills. In addition, it is necessary to provide educational opportunities for helping foster children reduce their emotional instability with systemic and diverse traditional dance programs.

Thanks to the technological developments in the Internet, the Web-Based Instruction in the school practices has been available which is now taking its place as one of the new educational methods. With the increased interest in Web-Based Instruction, there appear a lot of materials and methodologies on utilizing the WEB to actively discuss and deal with the teaching-learning ways. Nevertheless, they comparatively tend to overlook the aspect of school guidance such as the development of sociability through social interaction which is an important element for building the personality of learner. This study has tried to design and apply the teaching-learning system for the promotion of social interaction in the Web-Based Instruction, and also made an investigation into the influences of social interaction on the development of children's sociability in the WEB field.

This study examines the problems of children exposed to family violence. As a result, the children exposed to family violence exhibit various emotional, behavioral and social problems and distorted perceptions and inappropriate reactions toward family violence. Based on these results and existing programs for children exposed family violence, an integrative group program has been devised. The program was applied to two groups of the children and an experimental study was conducted to examine its effectiveness on emotional problems, aggressiveness, social skills and perceptions/reactions toward family violence. As a result, the experimental groups have shown an overall significant improvement in scores on emotional problems, aggressiveness, social skills and perceptions/reactions toward family violence. The study offers the following recommendations for clinical social work practice. First, great efforts to alleviating the problems of children exposed to family violence should be made continually. Second, special attention should be paid to reflect the characteristics of our own culture in clinical social work intervention and to do so, various practical intervention skills suitable to our culture should be developed. Finally, many different intervention models for children exposed family violence should be developed and researches comparing those models should be carried out.

This study examined gender differences of the effect of playfulness on the social skills of young children. The subjects were 242 4- to 6-year-old children at five nursery schools and kindergartens. Results showed that playfulness influenced social skills of young children. In particular, young children's playfulness was a more effective variable of assertion than self-control, cooperation and responsibility. Cognitive spontaneity and social spontaneity were the most effective variable of social skills. Playfulness had variable influences on social skills by gender: Among boys, playfulness was a less effective variable of cooperation than the other variables of social skills. Among girls, playfulness was a less effective variable of self-control than other variables of social skills.
