A Hermenutic Phenomenological Study of Psychological Burnout Experiences due to Emotional Contagion (정서전염으로 인한 심리적 소진 경험에 관한 해석현상학적 연구)

  • This study explored the essence of psychological burnout experiences due to emotional contagion using a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. In-depth interviews were conducted on 9 participants who work in fields that are subject to emotional contagion. Data analysis was conducted by using van Manen's methodology, insisting that the pure description of an experience can be enriched by adding interpretation. The emotional contagion experiences were identified through this process and the findings were categorized into 3 core themes, 8 essential themes, and 35 subthemes. The first core theme is "emotions in constant exchange". This theme included two essential themes: 'various channels of emotional contagion' and 'subjective states that change depending on the transmitted emotions'. The second core theme, "filtering the experience of emotional contagion" included the essential themes of 'the characteristics susceptible to the emotions of others', 'attitudes of spreading negative emotions' and 'situations that makes one feel overwhelmed by emotions'. The final core theme, "from burnout by emotional contagion to communication" was categorized into the following essential themes: 'burnout-inducing entangled interactions', 'moving toward communication and connection' and 'recovery after psychological burnout'. Finally, the implications and suggestions for future research were discussed by summarizing the core contents of each themes.

A Qualitative Study on the Busyness and Subjective Pace of Life among Koreans in Early Adulthood (성인초기 한국인의 바쁨과 주관적인 삶의 속도에 대한 질적 연구)

  • This study examines how people perceive and experience busyness, which is a great social pressure in the Korean society, and The socio-psychological motives that drive people's different paces of life, such as busyness or slowness, despite being in the same busy reality, were examined. Furthermore, an in-depth study was conducted on the adaptation factors in the real society according to the speed of individual life. The analysis of this study was based on an in-depth interview data of 21 unmarried men and women in their 20s and 30s, and was conducted using a phenomenological qualitative analysis method. As a result, the perception and experience of being busy had both positive and negative parts. The components of socio-psychological motivation that affect the speed of an individual's life are 'internalization of positive values of (busy/rest)', '(future/present) centric', 'selection & concentration/Inertial busyness', 'personality characteristics' were derived. In addition, 'self-selection', 'successful time management', and 'maintenance of psychological health' were derived as common factors among adaptation factors in real society, 'a sense of achievement' and 'understanding and accepting self-characteristics' were derived as discriminatory factors. became Based on these results, the value and meaning of being busy in Korean society was discussed from a social psychology perspective, and a new perspective was presented to existing studies and discussions related to the speed of life. In addition, several follow-up studies were proposed.

A Case Study on the Parenting Resources of Fathers in Single-Parent Families: Focusing on Divorced Man (부자가족 아버지의 자녀 양육 자원에 대한 사례연구: 이혼한 남성을 중심으로)

  • This study was aimed at exploring the parenting experience of fathers in single parent families as well as comprehensively determining their parenting experiences and the various parenting resources and support systems that have emerged in the process. The subjects were five divorced fathers who had not remarried and had been raising their children on their own. This qualitative case study involved data collect through in-depth interviews. The inter-case analyses derived two topics, five categories, and 17 concepts related to the issues of interest. The results indicated, that, first, there was "psychological confusion in the early stages of parenting" because of the sudden onset of this responsibility after divorce. Second, in the parenting experience, the fathers felt that "family survival was at stake". Third the support systems that the fathers had in raising single parent families were "social resources" made available through workplaces, acquaintances, institutions, and the government. Such systems also took the form of "family resources" including brothers and parents. An "internal resource" was the presence of children along with psychological sources of support, such as responsibility and the satisfaction experienced by the fathers through parenting. This study, uncovered the reality, resources, and support systems of fathers in single families. It is meaningful in that it will serve as a basis for supporting practical measures and educational interventions for fathers in single-parent households.

A Study on the Cognition Effect as to the illustration Layout in Children's Picture Books (어린이그림책일러스트레이션의 화면구도에 따른 인지효과 연구)

  • The layout in picture book is a visual statement that arouses children's psychological reaction upon pictorial positions and those disposition, and that indicates a correlation between theme and background and characters' movements. This study firstly confirmed that children's perception and experience are variously formed according to age, past experience, psychological action, physiological impulse, mentality, growth environment, etc., in order to analyze how the pictorial layout in children's picture book has influence on children visually and psychologically. Likewise, visual and psychological perception was carried out targeting on the children between 4 and 7 years old, based on the perceptive specific and process that have been studied by previous researchers. In addition, the children's picture books published overseas or domestically were presented as the related cases, in order that the facts analyzed may be drawn to harmonious and effective pictorial layout. Lastly, it is expected that the conclusion suggested by this study may be of help to illustrators to design picture books individually and creatively, as well as be applied to studying effective expression in the educant who learn about illustration.

Experiences of discrimination and psychological distress of children from multicultural families : Examining the mediating effect of social support (다문화가정 자녀들의 차별경험과 심리적 적응 : 사회적 지지의 매개효과 검증을 중심으로)

  • This study examined the relationship between discrimination experienced by children of multicultural families and their psychological distress. As new minorities growing up with bicultural identities in Korean society, children from multicultural families are often exposed to racial discrimination and such experience often acts as a stressor in their everyday life. In order to examine the effect of discrimination on their psychological distress as well as the role of social support, a survey was conducted in 25 elementary schools in Daejeon city and Chungnam and Chungbuk province. Results indicated that children's experiences of discrimination significantly affected their psychological distress level that the more they were exposed to discrimination, the higher levels of depression and anxiety they experienced. Among social support domains, only peer support was found to be significantly related to both the experience of discrimination and their depression and anxiety levels. Supporting the social support deterioration model, the findings showed that more experiences of discrimination led to reduced peer support which in turn, increased the likelihood of being depressed and anxious. Peer support was also significant in partially mediating the discrimination-psychological distress relationship. Implications for social work practice with children from multicultural families are provided.

The Relationship of Violence Experience with Psychosocial Stress and Burnout in 119 Emergency Medical Technicians in the ICT Age (ICT 시대에서 119 구급대원의 폭력경험과 사회심리적 스트레스 및 소진의 연관성)

  • This study aimed to identify correlations among experience of violence, psychosocial stress and exhaustion in emergency medical technicians. In total, 393 emergency medical technicians were participated in the survey using an organized essay-type questionnaire. To determine psychosocial stress and exhaustion factors, a linear regression analysis was performed. In results, psychosocial stress factors were work units, the hope to keeping working in the present department, and verbal violence ($R^2=12.9%$), and the exhaustion factors were hope to keeping working at the present department, work units, and verbal violence ($R^2=14.5%$). In conclusion, it is suggested that strategies to deal with violence against subjects are educational programs to prevent violence and emotional support programs to decrease psychosocial stress, as well measures to improve the emergency rescue environment should be developed.

  • 현대 사회에서 인간은 과학의 발달과 환경오염, 복잡한 사회에서의 다양한 인간관계 둥으로 인해 긴장과 불안을 경험하며 자신도 모르게 스트레스를 받으며 살아가고 있다. 긴장과 불안은 스트레스의 요인이 되며 지속적으로 쌓이게 되면 정신적, 신체적 질병을 가져온다. 이러한 스트레스를 해소하기 위한 방법으로는 바이오피드백, 이완요법, 명상, 가벼운 운동 등이 있으며 현재는 멀티테라피가 널리 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 스트레스 해소방법이 아닌 시각적 요소만을 가지고 제작된 모션그래픽을 활용하여 심리이완을 유도할 수 있는 방법에 관하여 연구하였다. 첫째, 모션그래픽의 구성요소 중 3가지 요소(색, 헝태, 방향)를 조합한 설문 모션그래픽 중 어떤 요소가 가장 심리이완을 유도하는 것인지를 조사하여 분석하였고, 둘째, 3가지 요소(색, 형태, 방향)를 각각 2가지로 나누어 특성을 비교 분석해 보았다. 그 결과 심리이완을 유도하는 모션그래픽은 한색, 원, 수평으로 조합된 모션그래픽으로 문헌 조사와 동일한 결과를 나타났으나, 각 요소별 분석에서는 3가지 요소 중 색과 형태는 동일한 반면, 방향은 수평보다 수직이 심리이완을 유도하는 요소로 분석되었다. 향후 본 연구를 토대로 각 요소에 대한 세부적인 분석이 이루어진다면 심리이완에 있어 모션그래픽의 폭넓은 활용이 기대되어진다.

  • Recently, the COVID-19 Pandemic is not an infectious disease-level disaster, but a complex disaster, making it difficult to respond with traditional disaster response management methods. As a result, experiencing psychological stress and trauma such as COVID-19 has emerged as a new social problem. In preemptively predicting and effectively responding to these psychological disasters and crises, the necessity and direction of non-face-to-face disaster psychological support using ICT technology in traditional services are discussed.

Study on the Yips Current States and Coping Method in High School Baseball Player Through Convergence (융복합을 활용한 고교야구선수의 입스(yips)경험과 대처방법에 대한 현상적 분석)

  • The study is conducted to investigate the prevalence of a yips phenomenon in high school baseball players and provide the basis of its origin and an effective treatment intervention. Therefore, we survey 320 high school baseball players registered at Korea Baseball Association, excluding poorly answered 30 questionnaires. Utilizing PASW 20.0, the analysis of yips experiences and a coping method is carried out with descriptive statistics and ratio analysis. The results from the process above are as follows. The ratio of high school baseball players who experience yips reaches 64%, which is significantly high; experiencing yips, they have both physical and psychological problems; although they would have psychological trainings, few of them work, which implies that the discussion on yips prevention and coping methods for high school baseball players is imperative.

The Non-suicidal Self-injury of Middle and High School Students Based on the School Counselor's Experience: Focusing on the Emotional Cascade Model (학교상담자의 경험에 기반한 중·고등학생의 비자살적 자해행동: 정서홍수모델을 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted by applying Selby and Joiner (2009)'s Emotional Cascade Model to the phenomenon of non-suicidal self-injury of adolescents, focusing on the school counselor's counseling experience. To this end, a focus group interview(FGI) was conducted with 56 counselors who had experience in counseling self-injured adolescents, and this study applied Braun and Clake's thematic analysis(2012). As a result, 8 categories and 16 subtopics were derived: 'negative emotional experience', 'maladaptive cognitive emotional dysregulation strategy', 'experience of emotional cascade', 'temporary relief of psychological pain', 'aggravation of the emotional cascade state', 'emotional pain from nonsuicidal self-injury', 'vicious cycle of nonsuicidal self-injury' and 'difficulty in controlling behavior that co-occurs with nonsuicidal self-injury'. These results are significant in expanding the understanding regarding the non-suicidal self-injury of adolescents through the perspective of school counselors who are in a position to consider the various systems surrounding adolescents in an integrated manner. Based on the research results, implications, limitations and future research were discussed.
