  • The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between the frequency of consumption of sports drinks and energy drinks and aerobic physical activity in the 6-29 year old group in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The sociodemographic characteristics, aerobic physical activity, and beverage intake of the subjects were calculated using composite sample descriptive statistics, and the mean difference between groups was analyzed by cross-tabulation, χ2-test, and binary logistic regression analysis. High-intensity aerobic activity was analyzed as an increase in the intake frequency of sports drinks(ionic drinks, vitamin drinks) and energy drinks(high-caffeine drinks) (p<0.05). Compared to moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity, high-intensity aerobic physical activity was analyzed as a factor influencing the increase in beverage intake frequency. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between physical activity and beverage consumption, which is a critical issue for promoting health both now and in the future, and to developed an intervention program based on the findings. Through this study, we aimed to gather basic data that can help people live healthy lives, and raise both individual and societal awareness of the importance of making better beverage choices.

Data ware analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation analysis, with SPSS 25.0 statistics program. The results of this study are as follows. First, there are statistically significant differences in physical fitness, cognitive function, activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, and psychological factors such as depression and quality of life, depending on whether the elderly participate in physical activity. There were statistically significant differences in physical fitness, cognitive function, ADL, IADL, depression and quality of life, depending on the frequency of participation of older people in physical activity. A statistically significant difference in physical fitness appeared depending on the participation time of the elderly who participated in physical activity. Second, a study of the correlation between physical fitness and cognitive function, ADL, IADL, depression, and quality of life revealed a correlation for most factors. Based on these research results, it is necessary to develop a systematic arbitration strategy including physical activity for the successful aging of the elderly and the independent life of old age.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand barriers and problems associated with physical activity of older adults in a small town and to provide improvement plans based on socio-ecological model. This study employed three independent phases including survey, accelerometer study, and photovoice. Three phases were analyzed based on nesting design among diverse mixed method designs. Among 134 older participants, 73 older individuals reported that their physical activity per week was less than 150min in the first phase. Among the 73 older individuals, 40 older individuals participated in the second phase. In the second phase, 32 older individuals does not meet at least 150min of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) suggested by DHHS. Finally, 6 older adults participated in the third phase. Five major themes emerged including 1) lack of proper information and service regarding physical activity, 2)lack of support from people close to them, 3)some limits due to chronic disease, 4)lack of appropriate facility, and 5)lack of opportunity due to existing inactive lifestyle. Based on these five themes, this study attempted to provide the improvement plans with socio-ecological model.

  • This study was designed to examine the effects of integrated physical expressive activities on creativity in young children. Subjects of this study were 38 preschoolers at the age of 4 who consisted of both the experimental group of 18 children and the control group of 20 children. To measure the creativity of young children, this study adopted Figural Test A of Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT) as pre-and post-tests with both experimental and control group. The results showed that effects of integrated physical expressive activities varied by sub-dimensions of creativity; children's participation in integrated physical expressive activities was effective to improve openness, abstractness of titles, and elaboration even if overall creativity and fluency increased after their program participation. Also, originality was the only sub-dimension that was not improved. It implied that integrated physical expressive activities have partial positive effects on some sub-dimensions of creativity.

Before and after the physical activities, the old adults were tested with Verbal Fluency Test(VFT), Trail Making Test A/B(TMT A/B), Clock Drawing Test(CDT). After the physical exercise, the subjects showed significant changes in the score of CDT(p<0.1). In contrast, there was no significant effect in VFT, TMT A. The results of this study show that occupational therapy with physical exercise program for demented elderly people is a useful therapeutic approach by enhancing the their quality of life through improving and maintaining their executive function.
