Examining the Korean Wave Wanghong Media of China - Based on Viewing Satisfaction and Cultural Acceptance (한류 왕홍 미디어에 관한 연구 - 시청만족도와 문화 수용성을 중심으로)

  • This study defined the Creators who produce video contents related to Korean Wave in the form of one-person media and takes an influential role in China as the 'Korean Wave(Hallyu) Wanghong Media'. This study aimed at examining the effects of viewing motivation and behavior on satisfaction and cultural acceptance. The survey was conducted on 240 respondents who have watched the contents on China's Bilibili video site. As a result, among five different motivations, the higher the level of 'cultural curiosity', 'entertainment', and 'empathy', the higher the satisfaction. Examining the effect of viewing behavior on satisfaction, 'frequency', the act of 'sharing' and 'participating' had positive effects. Furthermore, 'cultural curiosity' and 'satisfaction' were the factors of positive influence on cultural acceptance. The results of this study can enhance the understanding of Korean Wave Wanghong Media and further contribute to continuous development.

Seamless Recording Algorithm Using MPEG System and Service Information in Mobile Broadcasting (MPEG 시스템 및 서비스 정보를 이용한 끊김 없는 모바일 방송 녹화 방법)

  • In the general recording method of mobile broadcasting, all incoming broadcasting streams after recording time will be saved regardless of its content. In this case, as such that viewers do not want to record, commercial advertisement, are saved together. In order to solve these problems, the proposed method checks if the contents such as advertisements are exist in the target stream by analysing the splicing in incoming MPEG-2 TS streams and, if splicing happened, excludes incoming stream after the splicing in the recording process. In the proposed method, first the splice in the recording stream is verified using the related flags of adaptation field in the TS packet and, if judged to cause a splice, the time of splicing is to be estimated by evaluating the value of splice_countdown filed. In this way, the proposed algorithm provides the seamless recording method by estimating the time of splice and excluding the contents after the splicing. To evaluate the proposed seamless recording method, the simulation was carried out by modifying the software of the existing mobile broadcasting terminal.

Webdrama Analysis and Recommendation using Text Mining and Opinion Mining Technique of Social Media (소셜미디어 빅데이터의 텍스트 마이닝과 오피니언 마이닝 기법을 활용한 웹드라마 분석과 제안)

  • With the increase use of smartphones, users can consume contents such as webtoon, webnovel and TV drama directly provided by the producers. In this Direct-to-Consumer era, webdrama services from the portal websites are increasing rapidly. Webdramas such as , , and can be analyzed in real time using responses such as unique users, likes, and comments. The analyses used in this research were Social Media Big Data Mining Method and Opinion Mining Method. Specific key words from webdrama can be extracted and viewers positive, neutral or negative emotion can be predicted from the words. The analyses of popular webdramas showed that the established K-Pop Idol member appearance and servicing portal site greatly influence the views, traffics, comments, and likes. Also, 'Mobile TV' proved the effectiveness as another platform other than television. Mobile targeted contents and robust business models still to be developed and identified. Overcoming these few tasks, Korea will be proven to be a webdrama content powerhouse.

The Character of Contents Production System in the Comprehensive Programming Channels (종합편성채널의 콘텐츠 생산 방식의 특성)

  • It has become five years since comprehensive programming licenses were rendered in Korea. Allocating a lion's share of their air time on live news and news commentaries, those channels have established a unique live production system or a broadcasting system which is heavily live production-oriented, to be exact. The live commentaries are filled with a mixture of news flashes, conventional news commentaries, and debates. Those channels get their news and commentary programs made through subsidiaries' where production directors and studio staffs belong. They, being very sensitive about viewer rating, tend to be aggressive about reruns of highly rated programs and they do not even seem to care when the regular programs actually went out. This kind of reckless strategy to pursue a higher viewer rating could limit not only new programming attempts but also exposure diversity.

The Influence of Brand Consciousness and Impulsive Buying Tendency on the Attitude Toward the Product Placement (브랜드소비성향과 충동구매성향이 PPL제품 태도에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • Unlike traditional advertising practice, product placement(ppL) has several advantages such as avoiding zapping and working as celebrity endorsement. Previous research has been mainly focused on the presentation style of the PPL. However, to understand the effect of the PPL process properly, it is necessary to study the audience's personality. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate the relationship between audience's consumption tendency and the effect of the PPL. More specifically: the current study examined the influence of the brand consciousness and impulsive buying tendency on the attitude toward the PPL. The results showed that people considered to be highly brand conscious and impulsive buying tendency seem to have more favorable attitude toward the PPL. Indeed, self-esteem have a positive influence on the attitude toward the PPL. Therefore, consumer's personality is related to their response to the PPL.

Korean TV Talk Shows Trend from a Self-disclosure Perspective (국내 오락 토크쇼 흐름과 소통 형태 및 구조에 대한 연구-자기노출 관점을 바탕으로)

  • The competitive circumstance among domestic TV stations caused by TV channels of comprehensive programming appearance in 2011 brought the rapid growth of talk shows. The purpose of this article is to diagnose the talk shows trend from a self-disclosure perspective to consider a social aspect and communication structure in popular TV programs. 26 domestic TV talk shows from 2011 to 2014 were collected and analyzed to understand current state and grasp genres and formats. The results show that self-disclosure talk shows are increasing under the leading of terrestrial TV channels. The talk only type of talk show is superior in numbers compare to the variety type talk show includes such as game and quiz. The popular talk shows were produced inside studio mainly with fun seeking topics. Multi MCs and guests encountered many to many communication structure. The marked changes among self-disclosure talk shows to encourage participation of entertainers' family members and ordinary people are emerging and it is a noteworthy phenomenon.

Performance and Genre Diversity of Pre-produced Drama (사전제작 드라마의 성과와 장르 다양성)

  • Pre-production has become one of the more noticeable new trends in the Korean drama industry. The trend is being led both by the outsourcing producers and the incumbent broadcasting companies. In particular, the broadcasting companies seem to favor the mode of pre-production more and more, and that is happening not only when they are working on their own but also when collaborating with outsourcing producers. It has been generally proven and believed that the recruitment of A-list production factors is one sure way to produce better commercial results in the Korean drama industry. Then, the recent phenomenon of the pre-production is happening with the lack of the of A-list factors' participation. Especially, A-list writers have been showing a high degree of reluctance to take part in the pre-production, mentioning the inability to reflect the audience's responses on their stories. While the pre-prodction is being adopted in various genres, it is observed that the pre-produced dramas with multi-genre features have a higher chance to succeed.

  • Reflecting times, Korean TV dramas have gone through massive changes. So have their main characters. This study is about their jobs, which have become more professional as well as diverse. It is observed that the male characters" jobs and job-related episodes take the center stage in the stories of dramas, rather than love stories of those characters. While main characters' jobs used to be part of the overall backdrop in the past, it has been the latest trend for a drama to begin building conflicts around and in the meticulously described work settings. This is opening up the possibility for new categories of genre dramas, as opposed to the typical Koran melodramas. For further success of this newly burgeoning trend, the sense of reality matters the most. Then, it requires elaborately built narratives, based upon a high level of expertise of playwrights in the relevant fields, and realistic proper image processing techniques.

  • In this paper, in today's highly complex video and broadcast operations, broadcasters are constantly challenged to reliably deliver low-latency, high-quality video to multiscreen audiences on-air and online. The Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) protocols enable internet video to a wide range of multiscreen devices. However, video quality is often marginal and would prove unacceptable for valued linear broadcast content delivered to the Big Screen today. The Media information processing technology advances in ABR enables service providers to take control and offer quality managed linear video services to ALL screens in the home, including the Big Screen, with a single unified IP Video infrastructure. The New Multiscreen-Assisted ABR (MSA-ABR) delivery management system proposed using Cloud based multicast-assisted ABR for a broadcast facility that performs routing of contribution content and online publishing services within a virtual, centralized cloud infrastructure.

  • Interactive broadcasting service using wired/wireless Internet return channel has strong ripple effect. It allows the audiences to participate actively to the program they are watching, and communicating. This paper develops an authoring tool that makes an object-formed interactive advertisement from extracted areas of the advertising object the user specified in TV programs. In the authoring tool, the advertisement producer specifies the target object subjectively and the selected object keeps moving here and there repeatedly. Therefore, it is hard to make an object-formed interactive advertisement with existing tools. This paper suggests sketch-based interface technique for extracting advertising objects, and also provide evaluation functions to correct any sketch error. This paper also converts the area of object into MPEG-4 BIFS codes for authoring the object-formed interactive advertisement.
