  • Unmanned patrol robots are currently being developed for autonomous data survey in construction sites. As the amount of data acquired by robots increases, it is important to utilize proper metadata and system to manage data flow. In this study, we developed three materials, metadata design, robot system and web system, in the purpose of automating construction site data survey using unmanned patrol robots. The metadata was mainly designed to represent when and where raw data was acquired. To identify the location of data acquired, localization data from SLAM algorithm was converted to suit the construction drawings. The robot system and web system were developed to generate, store and parse the raw data and metadata automatically. The materials developed in this study was adopted to Boston Dynamics SPOT, a quadruped robot. Autonomous data survey of 360-picture and environment sensor was tested in two construction sites and the robot worked as intended. As a further study, development on the autonomous data survey to improve the convenience and productivity will be continued.

  • When a fire occurs in a commercial building, the evacuation route is complicated and the direction of smoke and flame is similar to that of the egress route of occupants, resulting in many casualties. Performance-based evacuation design for buildings is essential to minimize human casualties. In order to apply the performance-based evacuation design to buildings, it requires a complex fire simulation for each building, demanding a large amount of time and manpower. In order to supplement this, it would be very useful to develop an Available Safe Egress Time (ASET) prediction model that can rationally derive the ASET without performing a fire simulation. In this study, the correlations between fire temperature with visibility and toxic gas concentration were investigated through a fire simulation on a commercial building, from which databases for the training of artificial neural networks (ANN) were created. Based on this, an ANN model that can predict the available safe egress time was developed. In order to examine whether the proposed ANN model can be applied to other commercial buildings, it was applied to another commercial building, and the proposed model was found to estimate the available safe egress time of the commercial building very accurately.

  • The physical performance of high-strength concrete deteriorates when exposed to high temperatures such as fire. In particular, in the case of ultra-high-strength concrete, there is a high possibility of explosion due to internal water pressure and thermal expansion due to the tight internal structure. In this paper, a fire resistance certification test was conducted for field application of ultra-high-strength fire-resistant concrete, and the fire resistance performance (temperature rise of main rebar) was compared according to the structural concrete cover thickness. As a result, when the covering thickness was 40 mm, three structures did not meet the certification standards, and when the covering thickness was 50 mm, all structures met the fire resistance certification standards.

  • Purpose: As infectious diseases spread, hospitals have converted general wards into negative pressure isolation wards through remodeling. During the conversion process, there were limitations in converting the existing ward into an effective isolation ward due to its existing structure and mechanical system. To minimize these problems, this study proposes some general ward planning methods taking into account effective conversion to an infectious disease ward. Methods: Seven rapid conversion isolation wards have been analyzed in order to check their appropriateness as a negative pressured isolation unit. Then, general ward design planning methods that can minimize problems in rapidly converted negative pressured wards have been derived. Results: If general wards can be efficiently converted into negative pressure isolation wards, many isolation facilities can be secured effectively in a short period of time during a pandemic.
