Analysis of Wrinkling Behavior for Anisotropic Membrane (비등방성 멤브레인의 주름 거동 해석)

  • In this paper, wrinkling behavior for anisotropic membrane was studied. The analyses were done by using membrane elements and the wrinkling was accounted for by the penalty parameter modified material modeling which was implemented to ABAQUS as a user subroutine. The wrinkle model was applied to corner-loaded square membranes in which the effect of the diameter of steel pin, edge cut-off length and the magnitude of shear moduli on the wrinkling was investigated.

Performance Improvement of Mel-Cepstrum Through Optimzing Filter Banks (필터 뱅크 최적화에 의한 멜켑스트럼의 성능 향상)

  • In this paper we propose a method to improve the performance of the mel-cepstrum that is widely used in speech recognition. Typically, the met-cepstrum is obtained by critical band filters that have fixed center spacing and bandwidth. However different filter characteristics produce a different mel-cepstrum, resulting in a different performance. In this paper we analyze triangular-shaped and rectangular-shaped filters. By changing the characteristics of filters such as center frequency and bandwidth, we analyze the performance of the met-cepstrum. Then utilizing the simplex method, we propose a method to optimize the critical band filters. Using the dynamic time warping, we performed speaker independent recognition experiments with Korean digit words pronounced by 10 males and 10 females. Experiments show that the rectangular-shaped filters show good performance and the mel-cepstrum obtained by the optimized filters shows better performance than filters that have fixed center spacing and bandwidth.

Simplified Analytical Model for Flexural Response of Fiber Reinforced Plastic Decks (FRP 바닥판의 휨 해석모델 개발)

  • An analytical model was developed to investigate the flexural behavior of a pultruded fiber-reinforced plastic deck of rectangular unit module. The model is based on first-order shea. deformable plate theory (FSDT), and capable of predicting deflection of the deck of arbitrary laminate stacking sequences. To formulate tile problem, two-dimensional plate finite element method is employed. Numerical results are obtained for FRP decks under uniformly-distributed loading, addressing the effects of fiber angle and span-to-height ratio. It is found that the present analytical model is accurate and efficient for solving flexural behavior of FRP decks. Also, as the height of FRP deck plate is higher, the necessity of higher order Shear deformable plate theory(HSDT) is announced, not the FSDT in the plate analysis theory.

Design of Omni-directional Reflector for Synthetic Aperture Radar (합성개구레이더용 전방향 반사기의 설계)

  • Basic research is conducted to identify a target using corner reflectors which are commonly used in calibration of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems. At first, an omni-directional reflector is fabricated by combining four 15-cm rectangular trihedral corner reflectors. Then, its radar cross section (RCS) characteristics are measured at C-band (5.3 GHz) for vv-, hh-, hv-, and vh- polarizations at a range of horizontal angle, $-90^{\circ}{\le}{\phi}{\le}90^{\circ}$. The measured RCS angular variation of the omni-directional reflector is much smaller for vv-polarization than other polarizations, and the difference between the maximum and minimum RCSs for vv-polarization is about 8 dB. Peak RCS values are shown at $0^{\circ}$ (normal to plates) and $45^{\circ}$ (direction of bore sight). It is shown that the measurements agree quite well with numerical simulation and theoretical computation results.

Development of Separation and Trace Analysis Methods for Platinum Group Elements-Separation and Retention Behavior of Platinoid Metal Acetylacetonates in Reversed-Phase Liquid Chromatography (백금족 원소의 분리 및 미량분석법 개발에 관한 연구: 역상 액체 크로마토그래피에 의한 백금족 금속-아세틸아세톤 킬레이트들의 분리 및 머무름 거동)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigated the elution behavior of platinoid metal acetylacetonates, which is the key to elucidate their retention mechanism and optimize their RPLC separation conditions. The retention data of four platinoid metal acetylacetonates have been measured on four different columns in methanol-water and acetonitrile-water systems. The retention of uncharged platinoid metal acetylacetonates is interpreted by solvophobic effect. The retention of platinoid metal acetylacetonates is also greatly influenced by the geometric structure of the complexes. The square planar chelates, $Pd(acac)_2$, $Pt(acac)_2$, are retained longer than the octahedral chelates, $Rh(acac)_3$, $Ir(acac)_3$. It is likely due to that square planar chelates show greater interaction with nonpolar stationary phase than octahedral chelates. The results of van't Hoff plots have shown that platinoid metal acetylacetonates is operated on the same retention mechanism in the temperature range of $25{\sim}45^{\circ}C$. The study of the retention mechanism by the enthalpy-entropy compensation phenomenon has indicated that the retention mechanism of octahedral chelates and square planar chelates do not vary with the composition change of methanol-water mobile phase, respectively. In acetonitrile-water mobile phase, however, the retention mechanism is observed to be more complicated. Optimum condition for the separation of four platinoid metal acetylacetonates is found to be 40% methanol, polymeric C18 column, and $45^{\circ}C$.

  • In this research, we investigate wet-etching properties of GaAs in $NH_4OH-H_2O_2-H_2O$, and develop the fabrication method of GaAs microstructures with rectangular cross section using (001) GaAs substrate. For obtaining wet-etching properties with respect to crystallographic orientation, the etch rates and cross-section etch profiles of (001) GaAs with 16 different compositions and the undercut rates with 5 different compositions are measured using $NH_4OH-H_2O_2-H_2O$ mixed solutions. From these experimental data, a new GaAs micromachining method in bulk (001) GaAs is proposed, and used to fabricate a released microbridges with a rectangular cross section. The developed GaAs micromachining method can be very useful for low-loss, highly-tunable capacitors for RF components and for integration with GaAs optical components.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient coding algorithm for the zoom images to find the optimal depth and texture information. The proposed algorithm is the area-based method consisting of two consecutive steps, i) the depth extraction step and ii) the texture extraction step. The X-Y plane of the object space is divided into triangular patches and the depth value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block-based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the triangular patches is extracted from the zoom images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the triangular patches with the depth value extracted from the first step. To improve the quality of image, the interpolation is peformed on the object space instead of the interpolation on the image plane.

An Efficient Visualization Method of Two-Dimensional Vector Fields (2차원 벡터 필드의 효율적인 가시화 방법)

  • This paper presents the development of certain highly efficient and accurate method for computing tangent curves for two-dimensional vector fields. Unlike convention methods, such as Runge-Kutta, for computing tangent curves which produce only approximations, the method developed herein produces exact values on the tangent curves based on piecewise linear variation over a triangle in 2D. This new method assumes that the vector field is piecewise linearly defined over a triangle in 2D. It is also required to decompose the rectangular cell into two triangular cells. The critical points can be easily found by solving a simple linear system for each triangle. This method is to find exit points by producing a sequence of points on the curve with the computation of each subsequent point based on the previous. Because points on the tangent curves are calculated by the explicit solution for each triangle, this new method provides correct topologies in visualizing 2D vector fields.

  • When hot-rolled wide flanges are used as vertical compressive or bending member, opening web are often to take a space for equipments of pipe or duct. The Web of hot-rolled wide flange steel with opening may be analyzed as a rectangular plate, subjected to in plane force, and the buckling load is governed by the ultimate force of web. The result of the theory showed close agreement with the result of the finite element analysis. It was also shown that the buckling loads of stiffened opening plates could be larger than those of the plate. The stiffened opening plates for the 4-side simply supported case showed more stiffening effect than the Two Opposite Elastic Supports and Two Other Opposite Simply Supports case. In this study, we proposed the effective opening sizes that buckling loads of stiffened opening plate could be greater than those of the plates.

  • In this paper, an unequal 1:N Wilkinson power divider with adjustable dividing ratio is proposed. The proposed unequal power divider is composed of basic Wilkinson structure. It consists of rectangular-shaped defected ground structure (DGS), isolated island pattern in DGS, and varactor diodes of which capacitance depends on bias voltage. The characteristic impedance value of microstrip line having DGS goes up and down by controlling bias voltage for diodes, and consequently the power dividing ratio(N) is adjusted. The obtained N from measurement is $2.59{\sim}10.4$ which mean the proposed divider has adjustable unequal dividing ratio.
