  • In this paper, we present a prototype of view-switchable high-definition (HD) multi-view video transmission system. One of the major bottlenecks for the multi-view broadcasting system has been the hardware cost and transmission bandwidth. The proposed system focuses on software-based design, transmission over IP multicast networks, and flexible system configuration to address aforementioned problems. In the proposed system, we implement software stereo HD multiplexing, demultipiexing and decoding, and take advantage of high-speed broadband convergence networks to deliver HD video in real-time. Moreover, the proposed system can be scalable and flexible in terms of the number of views. Furthermore, in order to display any multiview video on 3D display monitor, a face tracking system is integrated to our system. Therefore, users can watch the different stereoscopic video at its related locations.

  • Hyperhidrosis is one of abnormalities in autonomic nervous system, it has been treated with dermatologic principles or thoracic sympathectomy via thoracotomy. But these techniques were rather ineffective or invasive. Recently, Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery(VATS) is widely applided in thoracic surgical area, and palmar & axillary hyperhidrosis is not the exception. From August 1995 to February 1997, 52 patients with bilateral palmar hyperhidrosis underwent bilateral thoracic sympathectomy with VATS in the department of thoracic & cardiovascular surgery, Inje university, Pusan Paik Hospital. There were 27 men and 25 women and the mean age was 22 years. Mean operating time was 172 min and unilateral sympathectomy via minithoracotomy was applied in one patient due to severe pleural adhesion. Mean postoperative hospital stay was 2.6 days. During mean 12.5 months follow-up, there was no recurrence of sweating in the both hands. Thirty patients(57.7%) complained moderate degree of compensatory sweating, but the discomfort was decreased in severity. 83.8% of all patients were satisfied with the result of operation.

  • Recently, the smart video surveillance research, which has been receiving increasing attention, has mainly focused on the intruder detection and tracking, and abandoned object detection. On the other hand, research on real-time detection of stolen objects is relatively insufficient compared to its importance. Considering various smart surveillance video application environments, this paper presents two different types of stolen object detection algorithms. We first propose an algorithm that detects theft of statically and dynamically registered surveillance objects using a dual background subtraction model. In addition, we propose another algorithm that detects theft of general surveillance objects by applying the dual background subtraction model and Mask R-CNN-based object segmentation technology. The former algorithm can provide economical theft detection service for pre-registered surveillance objects in low computational power environments, and the latter algorithm can be applied to the theft detection of a wider range of general surveillance objects in environments capable of providing sufficient computational power.

  • Background: Recent developments in techniques of video-assisted thoracic surgery(VATS) and endoscopic equipment has expanded the application of video-assisted surgical procedures in the field of thoracic surgery. Especially, it will probably become the treatment of choice of spontaneous pneumothorax(SP). There is, however, a high recurrence rate, high cost, and paucity of long-term results. We report the results of postoperative follow-up and analyze perioperative parameters affected to recurrence, retrospectively. Material and Method: From march 1992 to march 1997, 276 patients with spontaneous pneumothorax underwent 292 VATS procedures. Conversion to open thoracotomy was necessitated in eight patients, and this patients excluded from the study. Result: The sex distribution was 249 males and 31 females. The mean age was 28.1 12.2 years(range, 15 to 69 years). Primary SP was 237cases(83.5%) and secondary SP was 47cases(16.5%). The major underlying lung diseases associated with secondary SP were tuberculosis 27cases(57.4%) and emphysema 8cases (38.3%). Operative indications included Ipsilateral recurrence 123(43.9%), persistent air-leak 53(18.9%), x-ray visible bleb 40(14.3%), tension 30(10.7%), contralateral recurrence 21(7.5%), uncomplicated first episode 8(2.9%), bilateral 3(1.1%), complicated episode 2(0.7%). Blebs were visualized in 247cases(87%) and 244cases(85.9%) performed stapled blebectomy. Early postoperative complications occurred in 33 cases(11.6%): 16 prolonged air-leak more than 5 days(four of them were required a second operation and found missed blebs); 5 bleeding; 5 empyema; 2 atelectasis; 1 wound infection. No deaths occured. The mean operative time was 52.8 23.1 minutes(range, 20 to 165 minutes). The mean d ration of chest tube drainage was 5.0 4.5 days(range, 2 to 37 days). The mean duration ofhospital stay was 8.2 5.5 days (range, 3 to 43days). At a mean follow-up 22.3 18.4 months(range, 1 to 65 months), 12 patients(4.2%) were lost to follow-up. There were 24 recurrences and seven patients underwent second operation and 6 patients(85.7%) were found the missed blebs. 12 perioperative parameters(age, sex, site, underlying disease, extent of collapse, operative indication, size of bleb, number of bleb, location of bleb, bleb management, pleural procedure, prolonged postoperative air-leak) were analyzed statistically to identify significant predictors of recurrence. The significant predictors of recurrence was the underlying disease[17.0%(8/47): 6.8%(16/237), p=0.038], prolonged postoperative air-leakage[37.5%(6/16): 6.7%(18/268), p=0.001], and pleural procedure [11.4%(19/167): 4.3%(5/117), p=0.034]. Blebectomy has less recurrence rate then non-blebectomy [8.2%(20/244) : 10.0%(4/40), p>0. 5]. However, this difference was not statistically significant(p=0.758). Conclusion: We conclude that it is important that we shoud careful finding of bleb during VATS due to reducing of recurrnece, and cases of no bleb identified and secondary spontaneous pneumothorax were indicated of pleurodectomy. VATS is a valid alternative to open procedure for the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax with less pain, shorter hospital stay, more rapid return to work, high patient acceptance, less scar and exellent cosmetics. But, there is high recurrence rate and high cost, and than it is necessary to evaluate of long-term results for recurrence and to observate carefully during VATS.

  • Face tracking and recognition are difficult problems because the face is a non-rigid object. If the system tries to track or recognize the unknown face continuously, it can be more hard problems. In this paper, we propose the method to track and to recognize the face of the unknown person on video sequences using linear combination of nonlinear manifold models that is constructed in the system. The arbitrary input face has different similarities with different persons in system according to its shape or pose. Do we can approximate the new nonlinear manifold model for the input face by estimating the similarities with other faces statistically. The approximated model is updated at each frame for the input face. Our experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient to track and recognize for the arbitrary person.

  • We present a robust face tracking system from the sequence of video images based on effective detector and Kalman filter. To construct the effective face detector, we extract the face features using the five types of simple Haar-like features. Extracted features are reinterpreted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and interpreted principal components are used for Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies the faces and non-faces. We trace the moving face with Kalman filter, which uses the static information of the detected faces and the dynamic information of changes between previous and current frames. To make a real-time tracking system, we reduce processing time by adjusting the frequency of face detection. In this experiment, the proposed system showed an average tracking rate of 95.5% and processed at 15 frames per second. This means the system is robust enough to track faces in real-time.

  • The position information of individual vehicles on a road at every time instant can be used to analyze the microscopic behaviors of driving of each vehicle. The limited information obtained from previous imaging technology such as traffic volume and interval velocity cannot be used to explore such microscopic traffic conditions. Also, information gathering for the microscopic behaviors by manual analysis of captured video takes large amount of time and man-power. In the paper we develop the rule-based vehicle tracking technology from which the position information of individual vehicles on a road at every time instant can be automatically obtained. Also, we extract the position data of driving vehicles on a road, length of 130m for every 0.05 second, and calculate the velocity of each traced vehicles to compare with the real velocity for the verification of accuracy. In the future, this type of tracking techniques based on video analysis can be widely used to provide the practically important information of road traffic conditions and to analyze the academically important microscopic behaviors of driving patterns.

  • In this paper, we propose a way to detect a moving object efficiently and to track it using the active blocks. Instead of all Pixels in 8*8 Pixel value, any special pixel is extracted and we detect a moving object by comparison and by analysis the difference image information from darkness value of the same area. In the acquisition of image data by software processing, we reduce the number of data which obtain by convert high resolution image to low resolution image, and we can track a moving object in real time. So it can track a moving object in simple system without all the pixel value of the image data or additional VxD(Virtual x Driver). This system can be useful to track of a moving object in fixed block on PC(Personal Computer) and low custom.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a system which recognizes and tracks a human head on a sequence of images. In this paper, the color of the skin and ellipse modeling is used as feature vectors to recognize the human head. And the modified time-varying edge detection method and the vertical projection method is used to acquire regions of the motion from images with very complex backgrounds. To select the head from the acquired candidate regions, the process for thresholding on the basis of the I-component of YIQ color information and mapping with ellipse modeling is used. The designed system shows an excellent performance in the cases of the rotated heads, occluded heads, and tilted heads as well as in the case of the normal up-right heads. And in this paper, the combinational technique of motion-based tracking and recognition-based tracking is used to track the human head exactly even though the human head moves fast.

  • In recent years, the rapid increases in video distribution and viewing over the Internet have increased the risk of personal information exposure. In this paper, a method is proposed to robustly identify areas in images where a person's privacy is compromised and simultaneously blocking the object area by blurring it while rapidly tracking it using a prediction algorithm. With this method, the target object area is accurately identified using artificial neural network-based learning. The detected object area is then tracked using a location prediction algorithm and is continuously blocked by blurring it. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively blocks private areas in images by blurring them, while at the same time tracking the target objects about 2.5% more accurately than another existing method. The proposed blocking method is expected to be useful in many applications, such as protection of personal information, video security, object tracking, etc.
