  • This study examined children from two families exposed to domestic violence and had psychological counseling in July 2017 at KOVA, a support organization for crime victims. The subjects were exposed to family violence in excess of 10 years and was protected by the shelter with their mothers who had filed complaints with the local police. Victims of domestic violence often face difficulty in avoiding the source of aggression, and thus experience repetitive attacks. This research was conducted at the Buddhism Brain Research Facility, Seoul University, to identify and quantify the emotional characteristics of the affected children in which it is difficult to escape from their living conditions. Data was collected by BrainMaster, a 19-channel examination kit, and analyzed by NeuroGuide. As a result of analyzing the emotional characteristics of the affected children through Quantitative EEG and brain topographical map, we found an increase of slow wave and problems with abnormality of Alpha, High Beta in the left and right Frontal area asymmetry.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships among mother's depression, parenting behavior of children's problem behavior. The subjects used in this study were 203 three to five-year-old children who attended kindergarten and deycare center in Seoul and Gyonggido. The research data were collected through the 'Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)', 'Maternal Behavior Research Instrument(MBRI)', 'K-CBCL'. The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and Stepwise Multi-Regression. The results of this study indicate that there were significant positive correlations among children's problem behavior, mother's depression, rejective and control parenting behavior. And there were significant negative correlations among children's problem behavior, mother's affectionate and permissive parenting behavior. Also, the mother's depression was the predicted variable that has the most significant relative effect on children's problem behavior. Moreover, the results of this study indicate that rejective parenting behavior that is subordinate factor of parenting behavior was additional predictor of stress.

  • The media addiction of teenagers became a social problem in the era of media convergence. With the national efforts, parents has limited their children's media usage for proper parenting. However, current media environment where personalized media devices such as smartphone and tablet PC are common raises questions about whether the problems of media addiction can be solved with previous approaches. Thus, this study examines how the parental controls to teens' media usage affect their media usage and emotions. According to the results that analyzed 884 teens' responses, the parental controls did not affect their usage. On the other hand, it was appeared that excessive parental controls stimulated to teens' negative emotions. These results show that parental controls are not longer effective in current media environment, which implies that new efforts from their family or government are required in order to prevent teens' media addiction.

  • This study aimed to identify children's emotional variables (anxiety and emotional expressiveness) and parenting variables supporting emotional development (affection and concern for, respect, and trust of children) which influence somatic symptoms. Subjects were 311 6th grade children. Instruments were the Korean version of the State-Trait Anxiety for Children (Spielberger, 1973), Children's Somatization Inventory (Walker & Green, 1991), Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (King & Emmons, 1990), and the Parenting Behavior Test by the researcher. Analysis by t-test showed that children's anxiety influenced somatization. The children who perceived that both parents respect their thoughts, feelings and choices and that their fathers trust their behaviors and abilities showed low somatic symptoms. Supporting children's emotional development through good parenting practices was discussed.

  • Recently, researches are studied in developing efficient techniques for accessing, querying, and managing XML documents which are frequently used in the Internet. In this paper, we propose a new method to cluster XML documents efficiently. An element of a XML document corresponds to a node of the corresponding tree and an inclusion relationship of the document corresponds to a relationship between parent and child node of the tree. Therefore, similar XML documents are similar to the node's name and level of the corresponding trees. We make evaluation function with this characteristic to cluster XML documents by genetic algorithm. The experiment shows that our proposed method has better performance than other existing methods.

Results : The results showed that boys reported higher mean scale scores on the Social Problems, Delinquent Behavior, whereas girls showed higher mean scale scores on the Withdrawn, Somatic Complaints, Anxious/Depressed and Aggressive Behaviors as well as Internalizing Problems and Total Behavior Problems in K-YSR. Girls also reported higher scores on the Social. as well as Total Competence Scale. Also parents reported higher mean scale scores on the Attention Problems, Delinquent Behavior in their boys, whereas reported higher mean scale scores on the Withdrawn, Somatic Complaints, Anxious/Depressed and Aggressive Behaviors as well as Internalizing Problems in their girls in K-CBCL. Parents reported no differences between boys and girls in social competence scales. Conclusion : In both K-YSR and K-CBCL, girls consistently showed higher scores in the Internalizing Problem scales and there was no significant difference between boys and girls in the Externalizing Problem scores, but girls showed higher mean score in the Aggressive Behavior scale.

  • This study examined the trajectories of the marital satisfaction of parents to classify its latent classes and how marital satisfaction influences the behavioral problems of their children between the identified latent classes. The 1st to 8th and 10th data from the Korea Child-Adolescent Panel Survey were analyzed using the latent class growth analysis and BCH method. First, based on the mother's trajectory of marital satisfaction, five latent classes were identified: 'low constant', 'intermediate constant', 'temporary increment-constantly decrement', 'high constant, and 'highest constant'. At the same time, based on the father's trajectory of marital satisfaction, four latent classes were identified: 'increment', 'intermediate-slightly decrement', 'high-slightly decrement', and 'highest constant'. Second, mothers with low marital satisfaction had more children with behavioral problems, and their influence had more problems with internalized behavioral problems. These problems progressed to externalized behavioral problems as they grew. Both internalized and externalized behavioral problems were also found between the identified latent classes of the father's marital satisfaction. Children of fathers with low marital satisfaction showed more behavioral problems. These findings suggest that the marital satisfaction of parents is an important variable that can influence the behavioral problems of their children.
