This study aimed to develop a scale to measure the family strength of single-parent families. We analyzed the everyday life and demands of single-parent families using the theory of family strength to draw 78 items that encompass family basis, relationships, roles, social networks and family culture. Using a sample of 286 single-parent families through an online survey platform, we examined the factor structure of the items and selected 48 items based on the results of the factor analysis. Reliability, criterion and construct validity were also examined. The final scale comprised of five domains ; basis, parents' role, work-life balance, social network, lifestyle and household management. This scale can be used as an assessment measure of the family strength of single-parent families for consulting, case management and suggesting various programs in the field. This merit will help enhance the quality of programing for single-parent families at the Healthy Family Support Center and the development of family strength scales for various types of families.

This study was aimed at exploring the parenting experience of fathers in single parent families as well as comprehensively determining their parenting experiences and the various parenting resources and support systems that have emerged in the process. The subjects were five divorced fathers who had not remarried and had been raising their children on their own. This qualitative case study involved data collect through in-depth interviews. The inter-case analyses derived two topics, five categories, and 17 concepts related to the issues of interest. The results indicated, that, first, there was "psychological confusion in the early stages of parenting" because of the sudden onset of this responsibility after divorce. Second, in the parenting experience, the fathers felt that "family survival was at stake". Third the support systems that the fathers had in raising single parent families were "social resources" made available through workplaces, acquaintances, institutions, and the government. Such systems also took the form of "family resources" including brothers and parents. An "internal resource" was the presence of children along with psychological sources of support, such as responsibility and the satisfaction experienced by the fathers through parenting. This study, uncovered the reality, resources, and support systems of fathers in single families. It is meaningful in that it will serve as a basis for supporting practical measures and educational interventions for fathers in single-parent households.

Objective : This study investigated the effect of a remote sensory integrated family program on the visual seeking and stereotyped behavior of children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods : This study was conducted as a single-subject study, a mid-baseline design for three children with autism spectrum disorder, and the intervention was conducted 4 times a week for 4 weeks. All three children confirmed the changes in visual seeking and stereotyped behavior after the intervention. Results : After the intervention, visual seeking and stereotyped behavior decreased compared with the baseline period. Visual seeking decreased on average after 7.59% at intervention, and stereotyped behavior decreased by 6.81 on average. Conclusion : Through this study, it was confirmed that the remote sensory integration home program is effective in visual seeking and stereotyped behavior of children with autism spectrum disorder. Addionally it is useful as a new intervention method a program that allows parents to participate in the intervention process. and it is emphasized that occupational therapists should create and promote cooperative relationships for children intervention.
The purpose of this study is to understand the open adoption experience of adoptive families. For this purpose, the data were collected through diverse data collection methods including in-depth interviews with adoptive families who had experiences of open adoption and analyzed using a qualitative case study approach. Data collected from six adoptive families were employed for within-case analysis and cross-case analysis. Each case was carefully examined and summarized using story-telling style in the within-case analysis and major issues for open adoption appeared in each case were described and compared one by one. In the cross-case analysis, all the cases were re-examined keeping the issues appeared in the within-case analysis in mind and eight integrated themes were emerged from it. The eight integrated themes are 'the crucial meeting', 'a clear arrangement', 'an uneasy parallel', 'the other mom', 'who are the real parents?', 'the words never to say', 'the hidden characters', and 'the center of relations or the outsider'. Based on the results of the study, the policies and practical guidelines related to open adoption were suggested. Also, the suggestions for the further studies were made to obtain more abundant information beyond the limitations of the study.
In this study, we explored factors that affect high school student's affective attitude on mathematics with respect to the school mathematics instructoin, school mathematics assessment, mathematics textbook, private mathematics education, college entrance and career, and social atmosphere. Considering students' grade, major, academic level, gender, and school location, 1,029 high school students participated in the survey. To analyze the survey results, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and chi-square test were conducted using SPSS ver 29.0. Results are as follows. First, generally, college entrance and career and school mathematics instruction affected students' affective attitude on mathematics. Second, according to student's academic level and gender, there was a statistically significant difference in the factors affecting the affective attitude on mathematics. Third, according to students' background, there was a statistically significant difference in students' responses to sub-categories of each factor. We suggested that to improve student's affective attitude on mathematics, diversity of the school mathematics instruction, improvement of the mathematics textbook, student's appropriate participation in the private mathematics education, improvement of student's perception of the utilization of the mathematics in the future and the importance of the mathemaitcs in the society, and parents' emotional support are needed.
This study was to examine the differential impacts of social experiences and conditions on health among men and women aged 65 years or older, using data of the "2004 Survey on living Status of the Korean Elderly". The outcome variables were any disability, self-rated health, multiple morbidity, and self-rated quality of life. Multiple Classification Analysis was used to test the differential exposure to social factors contributes to gender difference in health. Gender differences in vulnerability of each individual socioeconomic, psycho-social, and behavioral factors for health were assessed by comparing logit coefficients in men and women. I found that gender difference in exposure to social factors contribute to inequalities in health between older men and women, however, gender inequalities remained after controlling for differential exposure except in case of quality of life. In addition, gender differences in health were further explained by differential vulnerabilities to social factors between men and women. Findings of this study may affirm the importance of further and deeper investigation of gender differences in health in later life. Gender sensitive approach in health planning and polices for the elderly is also suggested.
This study was conducted to explore and understand the meaning of stigma of families having old people admitted to nursing home within the Korean culture. Data collection was performed through in-depth interviews and participant observations which were recorded and transcribed verbatim with the consent of the participants. The key informants were 12 people having the aged family member in nursing home. The data was collected from October 2008 to February 2009 until completed. Data were analyzed utilizing the taxonomic analysis method developed by Spradley. As a result, 24 themes, 8 categories and 4 cultural domains are founded from the cases. The cultural domains resulted from the analysis are: 『Incompetence of Oneself: 'Adaptation to Inevitable Realities', 'Difficulty of Economic Independence', 'Difficulty of the Subjective Self-assertion'』, 『Contradictoriness of Decision Making: 'Decision Making Different from Own Mind', 'Conflicts between Neighboring'』, 『Self-rationalization of Decision Making: 'Self-comfort of Decision Making'』, 『Shifting Responsibility: 'Services Different from that of Family', 'Laking in Sincerity of Responsible Institution'』. Theoretical model about stigma of the family having old people admitted to nursing home by the research result in the above was able to be confirmed that it was expressed with the original form of thought of recursive system which continuously showing the inconsistency of decision making, rationalizing decision making, and shifting one's own responsibility in the process of accomplishing the duty of supporting old people. Based on the results, I discussed the meaning of stigma of families having old people admitted to nursing home and provided recommendations for future research.
This study was aimed at finding the direction to be supplemented in early childhood creativity education by identifying difficulties and revitalization methods for early childhood education experts such as early childhood education scholarships, directors of early childhood education institutions, and daycare center support staffs at childcare support center. For this study, we collected data of total 33 early childhood education experts, from August to October 2019. As a result of the study, first, the difficulties in early childhood creativity education were found to be 'Evaluation certification system (evaluation meeting)', 'Quality of teachers', 'Number of teachers to children', and 'Lack of definition and direction of creativity'. Second, as revitalization methods to active creativity education for early childhood, they answered with 'Establishment of infant-centered, play-centered curriculum considering on-the-ground characteristics', 'Securing the quality of teachers through their own efforts and supporting various policies', 'Autonomous and diverse program operation of early childhood education institutions', and 'Cooperation with parents'. Through this, it was possible to broadly understand difficulties and revitalization methods of early childhood education experts, and the results of this study can be used as basic data to prepare measures to improve and support in the field of creativity education in early childhood education in the future.
It is necessarily for a counselor's role to vary according to the cultures. While an autonomy is stressed in Western horizontal society, sociability is emphasized in Korea which is a vertical authoritarian society. What is more, a lot of people look to a counselor for elder's role as a teacher or a fosterer as well as a therapist. The two basic framework of Reality Dynamic Counseling which has been developed as a counseling approach for Korean are 'presentization for problem' and 'elder's role of a counselor'. An elder's role of counselor showed in real counseling case is illustrated by 'narrative methods' in this study. The 'story making methods' as one of qualitative research methods is more useful than a protocol method which has been used in studying counseling case, because it has conciseness for original text of dialogs and commentary for counseling process. The seven characteristics of Reality Dynamic Counseling such as grasping the real cause, understanding mind,, emphasizing interpersonal factor, emphasis on role, utilizing confrontation, emphasizing the relationship of parent-child, and facilitating sociability are reflected in such an elder's role of counselor.
Purpose of Study: This study is a qualitative study to understand the essential experiences of missionary children related to national identity. Research Contents and Methods: Ten children of missionaries who were re-entered to their home countries to receive university education were selected as participants for the study. Two preliminary surveys (2016, 2019) were conducted to determine the direction and subject of the study. Two in-depth interviews and one non-face-to-face survey were conducted with the study participants. Based on preliminary research and prior research, the questionnaire explored identity experiences by discovering four areas: language, culture, group, and place. In addition, rich research results were derived with schematic interview data, surveys using Phinney's 1992 national identity test tool, non-face-to-face surveys with parents of study participants, and self-report identity graphs. Conclusions and suggestions: As a result of the study, missionary kids as TCKs were able to know their names in identity confusion by sequentially experiencing international mobility, separation, and discrepancy in four areas. After all, TCK seems to suffer from identity difficulties because it remains primarily 'minority' in relation to the four domains. This study is meaningful in that it specifically revealed the support needed for TCK missionary children with multicultural background by revealing the importance of providing visiting experience in Korea and schoo(herd)l experience before entering Korean universities to re-adaptate TCK.
