Structural analysis and safety design of composite wind turbine blades considering static loads (정적 하중을 고려한 풍력 터빈 복합재 블레이드의 구조해석과 안전도 설계)

  • 본 논문에서는 소음을 저감하고 구조적 안전도를 향상시키기 위하여 10kW급 소형 복합재 풍력터빈 블레이드를 해석, 설계하였다. 풍력터빈 블레이드 설계의 기본 사항에 맞추어 블레이드의 스팬 길이는 약 4m, 중량은 30kg 내외가 되도록 설정하였다. 풍력발전기용 블레이드는 경량화가 중요하므로 유리섬유복합재 (glass fiber reinforce pastics), 탄소섬유복합재 (carbon fiber reinforced plastics)가 사용되었다. 본 설계에서는 Carbon prepreg (WSN3KY), Carbon UD(UIN150c), E-glass 등을 사용하였다. 상용 유한요소 프로그램인 NASTRAN을 이용해 Carbon prepreg (WSN3KY), Carbon UD (UIN150c)의 탄소섬유복합재만으로 구성된 블레이드 구조해석을 수행한 결과 중량 조건 및 강도의 안전도는 충족되었으나, 높은 가격을 감안하여 E-glass와 조합하여 블레이드를 재설계할 예정이다. 이번 설계는 소형 풍력발전용 블레이드 설계이므로 좌굴은 고려하지 않았으며, 향후 필요에 따라서 좌굴 및 피로해석도 수행하여 검증할 예정이다. 그리고 블레이드가 복합재로 구성되면 감쇠력이 감소할 가능성이 있다. 탄소섬유복합재로만 구성된 블레이드 구조해석에서도 최대 40cm의 변형이 예측되었으며, 감쇠값 저하 문제도 고려하여야 될 것 같아 BEMT (Blade Element Momentum Theory) 공력모델을 이용해 구조-유체 연성 결합 해석을 수행할 계획이다.

  • 최근 해상풍력 블레이드가 대형화됨에 따라 보다 가볍고 강한 재료가 요구되고 있다. 현재 주로 사용되고 있는 복합재는 발사우드나 PVC 폼 등을 코어소재로 하고, 유리섬유나 탄소섬유 등을 보강섬유로 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재 사용되고 있는 복합재에 대한 특성을 알아보고, 최근 흡음, 충격 및 열에 강한 발포 알루미늄을 이용한 복합재를 해상풍력 블레이드 제조에 적용하여, 구조 강도 실험을 실시함으로써 기존 복합재와 구조 강도 및 비용 등을 비교 검토하여 우수한 복합재를 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 대형구조물인 블레이드를 제작하기 위해 적절한 크기의 발포 알루미늄을 상호 접합하기 위한 방법을 연구하고자 하며, 목포대학교에서 보유중인 만능재료시험기(100 Ton)를 활용하여 인장, 압축, 굽힘 실험을 실시하고, 스킨재 변화, 코어재의 밀도와 두께 변화를 고려하여 다양한 복합재의 강도를 비교하고자 한다. 또한, 기존에 사용되고 있는 복합재와 발포 알루미늄을 이용한 복합재의 재료비 및 가공비를 추정하고 경제적인 복합재를 제시하고자 한다.

Structural Test Analysis Study for Manufacturing of Flax Fiber Composite Blades for 30kW Wind Turbines (30kW 풍력터빈용 아마섬유 복합재 블레이드 제조를 위한 구조 시험 분석 연구)

  • Recently, as global environmental issues for sustainable development, such as carbon neutrality, have emerged, disposal methods of glass fiber composites, a material of existing wind turbines, have become a problem. To solve this problem, in this study, 30kW wind turbine blades were manufactured using flax fiber-based composites, which are eco-friendly natural fiber composites that can replace existing glass fiber composites, and their suitability was evaluated. First, mechanical strength tests were conducted to verify the feasibility of using eco-friendly natural flax fiber composites as a wind turbine blade material, and as a result, better strength were confirmed compared to previous studies on the properties of flax fiber composites. In addition, the suitability was confirmed through a static strength performance evaluation test to measure the static strength of the flax fiber composite blade using the manufactured 30kW class flax fiber composite blade.

  • This work dealt with the design and manufacturing of composite blades of a vertical axis wind turbine system. In this work, aerodynamic and structural designs of sandwich composite blades for a vertical axis wind turbine system were performed. First, the aerodynamic and structural design requirements of the composite blades were investigated. After the structural design was complete, a structural analysis of the wind turbine blades was performed using the finite element analysis method. It was performed with the stress and displacement analysis at the applied load condition. A design modification for the structurally weak part was proposed as a result of the structural analysis. Through another structural analysis, it was confirmed that the final designed blade structure is safe.

  • Nanocomposite blade for dicing semiconductor wafer is investigated for micro/nano-device and micro/nano-fabrication. While metal blade has been used for dicing of silicon wafer, polymer composite blades are used for machining of quartz wafer in semiconductor and cellular phone industry in these days. Organic-inorganic material selection is important to provide the blade with machinability, electrical conductivity, strength, ductility and wear resistance. Maintaining constant thickness with micro-dimension during shaping is one of the important technologies fer machining micro/nano fabrication. In this study the fabrication of blade by wet processing of mixing conducting nano ceramic powder, abrasive powder phenol resin and polyimide has been investigated using an experimental approach in which the thickness differential as the primary design criterion. The effect of drying conduction and post pressure are investigated. As a result wet processing techniques reveal that reliable results are achievable with improved dimension tolerance.

  • Composite rotor blades for rotorcraft have an intrinsic vulnerability to foreign object impact from its inherent structural characteristics of insufficient strength in the thickness direction, which may easily lead to internal structure damage. Therefore, defects and strength reducing effects caused by foreign object impact should be considered in fatigue evaluation of composite blades. For this purpose, the flaw tolerant safe-life and fail-safe concepts were adopted in fatigue evaluation since 1980s, and recently those concepts have been replaced by the damage tolerance concept. In this paper, the relevant standards for fatigue evaluation are analyzed focusing on fiber reinforced composite rotor blades used in rotorcraft. In addition, fatigue evaluation procedure of composite blades considering impact damages is proposed by reviewing the practices implemented through domestic development projects.

  • The objective of this study is ensuring safety of cabin when the blade impacts into a obstacle by verifying safety of the rotor mast and the transmission using impact loads calculated from the simulation. The rotor mast shall not fail and the transmission shall not be displaced into occupiable space when the main rotor composite blade impact into a 8 inch rigid cylinder in diameter on the outer 10% of the blade at operational rotor speed. To calculate the reaction loads at the spherical bearing and lead-lag damper, blade impact analysis was performed with FE model consist of composite blade, tree(or rigid cylinder) using elastic-plastic with damage material and several contact surfaces which were created to describe a progress of actual failure. Also, the reaction loads were investigated in change of blade rotation speed and pitch angle.

Bend-Twist Coupling Behavior of 10 MW Composite Wind Blade (10 MW급 복합재 풍력 블레이드의 굽힘-비틀림 커플링 거동 연구)

  • In this study, a structural optimal design of 10 MW composite blade was performed using bend-twist coupled(BTC) design concept. Bend-twist coupling of blade means the coupling behavior between the bending and torsional deflections due to the composite lamina with fiber angle biased from the blade longitudinal axis. This can potentially improve the overall performance of composite blade and reduce the dynamic loading. Parametric studies on layup angle, thickness and area of off-axis carbon UD were conducted to find the optimum coupling effect with weight reduction. Comparing the results of fatigue load analysis between conventional model and BTC applied model, the damage equivalent load(DEL) of blade root area were decreased about 3% in BTC model. To verify the BTC effect experimentally, a 1:29 scaled model was fabricated and the torsion at the tip under deflection behavior of blade stiffener model was measured by static load test.

Blade Analysis Library Development of Dimension Reducible Modeling and Recovery Analysis for Composite Rotor Blades (복합재 로터 블레이드의 차원축소와 복원해석을 위한 블레이드 해석 라이브러리 개발)

  • In this paper, numerical results of sectional analysis and stress recovery were compared with the results of VABS through the blade analysis library. The results of recovery analysis for one-dimensional model including the stiffness matrix is compared with the calculated three-dimensional stress results of three-dimensionial FEM based on the principle of virtual work. We discuss the configuration of the blade analysis library and compare verifications of numerical analysis results of VABS. Blade analysis library through dimensional reduction and stress recovery is intended to be utilized in conjunction with pre- and post-processing of the analysis program of the composite blade, high-altitude uav's wing, wind blades and tilt rotor blade.
