The Convergent effects of Smartphone Addiction on Sleeping Time and Sleep Deprivation among College Students (대학생의 스마트폰 중독이 수면시간과 수면부족에 미치는 융복합적 영향)

  • This study is a descriptive research designed to determine the effects of smartphone addiction on sleeping time and sleep deprivation among college students. For this purpose, the study made a questionnaire survey of 280 health science college students attending at C college located U Metropolitan city. Data collected from the survey were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 program. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. there were correlations between smartphone addiction and students' sleep deprivation but weren't correlations between their smartphone addiction and sleeping time. furthermore college students' sleep deprivation was influenced by their smartphone addiction. Therefore, in order to induce sufficient sleep for physical and mental health, it is needed to reduce the smartphone addiction rate of college students. To do that, it is necessary to develop and provide interventive programs to eradicate unnecessary smartphone use.

A Fusion Survey on the Investigation of Correlation between Systemic Diseases and Oral Health (전신질환과 구강건강 상관성 인식에 관한 융합적 조사)

  • To investigate the perception of the correlation between systemic diseases and oral health among some university students. The questionnaires were conducted on 485 students from 3 universities in Gwangju. As a result of the study, the female was higher than the male and was the highest in the fourth grade. Subjective health status, drinking status, smoking experience, and exercise were not significantly different in recognizing the association between systemic disease and oral health. The group with experience in oral health education recognized 3.18, and the group that practiced educational contents was highly recognized as 3.21. There was a significant difference between the two groups. Multiple regression analysis showed that major factor and grade factor influenced the perception of association between systemic disease and oral health. Therefore, it is necessary for university students to recognize the importance and necessity of periodical oral examinations. It is thought that the incidence of disease should be strengthened and enforced to recognize that there is a correlation with various diseases.

Effects of Life Stress and Depression of Health College Students on Their Suicidal Ideation : Control Effects of Social Support (보건계열 대학생의 대학 생활스트레스, 우울이 자살생각에 미치는 영향 : 사회적 지지의 조절 효과)

  • This study selected 390 students attending the three-year curriculum departments of G college in G metropolitan city including emergency medical technology, physical therapy and health administration randomly as the subjects of the research. The research was conducted from June 4 to 6, 2012 with structured self-administered questionnaire, 366 responses were used for final analysis. Data collected were analyzed with SPSS WIN(Statistical Package for Social Science Windows) 12.0 program and all tests were verified at the significance level of 0.05. As a result of the research, it was found that interaction effects between depression from suicidal ideation and social support showed negative correlation and it was statistically significant. Consequently, it was confirmed that social support had control effects in the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation. Therefore, the development and application of individual and group counseling and regular education program to prevent suicide and increase self-esteem are required, practical education program should be conducted and studies showing its results and effects are also needed.

Relationship between prevalenc of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms and depression of college students -Focused o health related majors- (대학생의 주의력결핍과잉행동장애 증상 출현율과 우울과의 관계 -보건계열 학생을 중심으로-)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between depression and adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) of college students. Collage students up to 350 people self-report survey was conducted using the Conners ADHD Rating Scale Korean version and Beck Depression Inventory. Adult ADHD symptoms prevalence was 5.1 % and the highest form of carelessness. Depression grade was $8.38{\pm}6.86$ points of college students and female students was higher than male students is depression grade, severe depression and modurate depressive symptoms were 2.1 %. Model of explanatory were slightly higher in 33.5%, adult ADHD affects depression and coexistence rate of adult ADHD symptoms and depressive symptoms was found to be 3.1%. Therefore, adult ADHD symptoms prevalence and depression of collage students seems to be relationship. Given the wide range of social and emotional problems due to adult ADHD seems necessary measures to establish a social dimension to adult ADHD.

Factors related to satisfaction with non-face-to-face classes of health science students due to COVID-19 pandemic (COVID-19으로 인한 보건계열 대학생의 비대면 수업 만족도 관련 요인)

  • Objectives: To investigate the perceived quality of classes, academic emotions, and learning achievement levels associated with the non-face-to-face classes of health science students, and to analyze the factors related to class satisfaction. Methods: Using a questionnaire, 238 health science students were surveyed regarding the quality of classes, academic emotions, and learning achievement levels. Factors related to calss satisfaction were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression. Results: Lecture types that the students were most satisfied with were 'video lectures using PPT' and 'recorded lectures provided by LMS', while 'real-time video lectures' were scored the lowest (p=0.005). Factors affecting non-face-to-face class satisfaction were perceived achievement (β=0.425, p<0.001), learning content (β=0.265, p<0.001), learning emotion (β=0.171, p<0.001), and learning environment (β=0.137, p=0.012). The adjusted explanatory power for this model was 63.9%. Conclusions: To increase the satisfaction of health science students with non-face-to-face classes, it is necessary to prepare an institutional foundation and to develop an educational program that can increase perceived achievement.

Influencing Factors of Social Nicotine Dependence in University Students (보건·간호계열 대학생의 사회적 니코틴 의존도 영향요인)

  • Objectives : This study identified factors that influenced social nicotine dependence in university students using descriptive methods. Methods : Data were collected 429 university students from 2 universities in B metropolitan city. The analytical methods were the t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results : There were significant differences in social nicotine dependence according to gender (t=3.359, p=.001), smoking status (t=8.915, p=.000), religion (t=3.841, p=.022), economic status (t=3.632, p=.027) and grade (t=8.466, p=.000). Social nicotine dependence was weakly correlated with anxiety (r=.113, p<.05). Meaningful variables that explain social nicotine dependence were anxiety, self-efficacy self-esteem, female, smokers and no religion. Conclusions : It is necessary to develop a comprehensive smoke-free policy that considers social nicotine dependence to improve the cultural and social awareness of the associated health hazards of smoking, and to develop smoking cessation education and smoking prevention programs that improve the self-efficacy and self-esteem of university students.

The Effects of Healthcare Major Students' Educational Achievement on Life Competencies (보건의료계열 대학생의 의사소통능력, 문제해결능력, 자기주도학습능력이 학업 및 영어 성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the level of communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning competencies, academic and English achievement of healthcare major students in university and to determine the effect of three main competencies on their academic and English achievement. Methods: The participants were college students studying in health care related major at a four-year university in D-city who agreed to participate in this study. Some of their data were intentionally excluded as their answers were incomplete or missing and finally 272 surveys were analyzed. Results: It was found that they have high level of general life competencies of which the subcategories are communication, problem-solving, and self-directed learning competency. GPA and TOEIC score which are the indicators of academic and English achievement were found to be correlated with the level of three competencies. Self-directed learning competency is assumed to be main cause variable of these achievement. Conclusion: As those students who have higher academic and English achievement also show high level of communication, problem-solving and self-directed learning competency. It is argued that a new curriculum that can contribute to improve communication, problem-solving and self-directed learning competency should be developed and implemented.

A Study on the Work Value of University Students Majoring in Health Care Management (일부지역 보건의료계열 대학생들의 직업가치관 구성요인에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore and analyse the work value of university students majoring in health care management. The subjects of this study were 300 students. Maryland Work Value Inventory was used and the data were collected using a structured and self-administrated questionnaire. As a result of factor analysis, the following results were obtained. First, the work value consists of six factors (financial remuneration, social status, social contribution, capability, achievement, proper pride) and it can be classified extrinsic work value (financial remuneration, social status) and intrinsic work value(social contribution, capability, achievement, proper pride). Second, The mean extrinsic work value(4.16) was higher than the mean intrinsic work value(3.80). The preference order of the work value was like this; financial remuneration(4.36) the first, achievement(4.05), social status(3.96), proper pride(3.93), capability(3.78), and social contribution(3.45) the last. Third, the mean of the economic stability in extrinsic work value was the highest. The factors meaningfully relating with intrinsic work value were age, school grade and the experience of job. Forth, as a result of regression analysis, the more school grade they have, the less extrinsic work value and the less their mother's level of education, the higher extrinsic work value.

  • Purpose. This study pourpose to fashion lifestyle and color interests in accordance with group university students' lifestyle focused on students in health and nursing fields. Methods. This study administered a structured questionnaire to 321 random subjects who currently major in health and nursing fields and who reside in Daegu city. For the collected data, using the SPSS 18.0, the following analyses were implemented: frequency analysis, factor analysis, K-means clustering analysis, t-test, and ${\chi}^2$-test. Result. In terms of lifestyle, seniors had shown more active groups than passive groups in comparison to their juniors. The active group in terms of lifestyle has shown higher interest in the importance of apparel and fashion leadership in comparison to the passive group. The active group in terms of lifestyle has also shown higher interest in color in comparison to the passive group. Conclusion. A fashion leader leading by examining the fashion life style and color interest in accordance with the lifestyle to target college students to investigate a variety of consumption patterns made according to personal preference consists of a smooth communication between businesses and consumers needed for product development.

Knowledge about the Examination System and Recognition for the Roles of Health Educator in Health College Students (보건계열 대학생의 보건교육사의 시험제도에 대한 지식과 역할에 대한 인식)

  • Purpose: This study was to survey the recognition for the roles of health educator and knowledge about the examination system in health college students at a university located in Chungnam. Methods: The participants were 140 health college students. The survey was conducted using a questionnaire consists of 10 items. The knowledge about the examination system was checked for 9 items with a five-point scale. Recognition for the roles of health educator was divided into four categories from know very well to do not know at all. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. Results: In this study, the mean score of knowledge about the examination system was 1.95 points out of 5, and the mean score of recognition for the roles of health educator was 3.01 points out of 4. According to the general characteristics, there were statistically significant differences in their knowledge about the examination system for health educator regarding their gender (p=.034) and grade (p<.001). Recognition for the roles of health educator showed a statistically significant difference only in their grade (p<.001). Conclusion: These results provide the basic data to prepare the necessary measures for the revitalization and promotion of the health educators.
