  • Effects of CR contents in NR/CR blends on the vulcanization kinetics and miscibility were studied by dynamic DSC and TGA, as well as the mechanical properties. While the vulcanization activation energy showed a constant value of $77.5{\pm}2.5$ kcal/mol regardless of CR contents, reaction rate, however, was observed to be somewhat lowered at increased CR contents. Partial miscibility was found between NR and CR phases at lower CR content of 3 wt%, but immiscibility was observed at higher CR content of 21 wt%. Mechanical properties were also affected by this miscibility, showing linear increase of compression set but decrease of tensile strength with CR contents in the blends.

  • In this paper, statistical treatments of effective properties for plain weave textile composites were presented. Configurations up to 32 layers with varied stacking phase shifts were considered. Effective properties were calculated by numerical simulation in which uni-axial tensile and shear load were applied at unit cell. Sample analysis was utilized to consider the inherent randomness in the phase shift and the results were treated statistically. It was found that effective properties were dependent on stacking phase shifts for thin plain weave textile composites. The distribution of $E_{xx}$ and $V_{xy}$ were skewed and the range of possible values was relatively large. As the number of layers increased, however, the distribution width became narrower and mean values converged. In contrast, $G_{xy}$ was not affected by phase shifts and thickness changes.

  • Knowledge of the moisture sorption properties of a material is essential for optimal material development and analysis of the delamination failure caused by vapor pressure at the interlayer during the manufacturing process of integrated packaging devices. In this paper, both temperature dependent absorption and desorption properties according to temperature and humidity model are parameterized and the effects of water activities and temperature are discussed. The activation energy obtained from the parameterized diffusivity determines the acceleration factor for the equivalency of moisture sorption levels, which enables the effect of moisture diffusivity on the equivalent elapsed testing time required for evaluating the reliable life time to be estimated. The acceleration factor evaluated at the reliability testing standard of the flexible packaging module is exampled.

  • In this study, a fundamental investigation was made on how to use LiDAR technology to determine the degree of weathering and alteration of rock mass. The purpose of the study was to identify the affecting parameters to LiDAR intensity and to quantitatively assess the relations among them through laboratory-scale experiment. A few potential affecting parameters were selected including scanning distance, incidence angle, surface roughness, surface color, mineral composition, and water saturation. In the experiment, FARO LiDAR unit was used for twelve different types of specimen. It was observed that the intensity was affected by, in the order of importance, surface color, incidence angle, scanning distance, property of rock, water condition, and surface roughness.

  • Multiple logging techniques consisting of geophysical logs, care logs, physical property measurements on core samples have been adopted on a test borehole drilled in the Pungam basin ; a small Cretaceous sedimentary basin located in Sosok area, Hongchon-gun, Kangwon Province, Korea. This study has been made to solve the problem of mismatches between the results of geophysical log and core log analyses. And the cause and range of depth errors as well as logging responses were studied. The result shows that the depth error caused by geophysical log is so small that it can be used as a reliable depth criterion in the borehole. The analysis of physical property measurements is also shown as very effective in determining the real depth and the geology of the borehole.

  • The effcct of specific g~avity cont~olled In the .range fiom O.4 to 0.7 by particle size and added amount of A1 powder in the presence or absence of water repellent agent on the physical properties of ALC was examined to evaluate frost resistance and durability. The compressive sttcngth and the tensile strength are increased and independency with water repellent agent when the specific gravity is increased in the range from 0.4 to 0.7. According as the added amount of water repellent agent was increased. frost resistance was improved and absorption ratio was decreased. ALC produced from fine Al powder has a low volume reduction by scaling and a sound apperance after freezing/thawing test and top surface freezing test.

  • This is to investigate the physical properties of the commercially available Soft, Thomas, Minerva, and Philadelphia cervical braces which are widely used in orthopedics, neurosurgery, and rehabilitation medicine clinics as assisting devices for physical stabilization of cervical vertebrates, to use as a basic data for designing new type brace. Tensile strengths were observed by universal mechanical measuring device and Thomas brace required the highest stress to break by tensile stress. Durabilities against continuous frictional forces were also determined, and Minerva brace demonstrated the longest frictional time until being perforated. According to these results, poly ethlene is recommendable as a frame and preparation of pores in the material is favorable to provide ventilation to skin.

  • Stress relaxation tests with different percent deformation were performed for crude and refined starch gels of acorn. With no relation to percent deformation, refined starch gel had higher initial stress ($\sigma_e$) and lower equilibrium stress ($\sigma_e$) than crude starch gel. But the ratio of equilibrium stress to initial stress ($\sigma_e$/$\sigma_o$) was minimum at 60 percent deformation. The analysis of relaxation curves by successive residual method revealed that the rheological behavior of acorn starch gels could be expressed by generalized Maxwell model. The element numbers of models for crude and refined starch gel were 7-element and 5-element at 60 percent deformation, and 5-element and 3-element at 45 percent deformation, respectively.

  • Enhancing mechanical strength of concrete has been fascinated using carbon-based nanomaterials such as CNT and graphene. The key to improving strength is a dispersion of nanomaterials. A novel method is required to investigate the dispersion inner concrete nondestructively. In this study, the optical optical properties such as refractive index and absorption coefficient are measured in nano-cement mortar specimens containing MWCNT and GO using THz electro-magnetic waves. From the results, the properties of nano-cement mortar are confirmed to be 1.0% to 2.5% higher in refractive index, and -14% to 28% higher in absorption coefficient than those of cement mortar at the average values. Using these characteristics, visualizing the dispersion of nano-concrete structures seems possible in future.

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the performance of low $CO_2$ asphalt binder properties using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$(Low Energy and Carbon Asphalt Pavement) additive as function of various aging methods such as RTFO(Rolling thin film oven), Ultraviolet(UV) lay. In order to simulate the short-term aging of asphalt binder that occurs during the hot-mixing asphalt process, the Rolling Thin Film Oven(RTFO) was used. Asphalt binder using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$ is prepared by addition of a photoinitiator activated by ultraviolet lay. The mechanical and rheological properties of the asphalt binder were estimated using UTM(Universal Testing Machine) and DSR(Dynamic Shear Rheometer). The test results showed that the asphalt binder using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$ additive was improved the rutting resistance at testing temperature ($70^{\circ}C$) and increased tensile strength at low temperature. Also, Thermal analysis shows that the Melting Point(Tm) of asphalt binder using LEADCAP$^{(R)}$ additive was constant although the asphalt binder was aged by Ultraviolet.
