  • This study investigated and analyzed operating policies and status of the best practices repository in the world to propose the successful strategies of management and establishment of repository. The best practices were selected from the top 10 of the Ranking Web of World Repositories by CSIC and Registry of Open Access Repositories by JISC. These repositories fell into two rough classes, disciplinary and institutional repositories. Policies on operation and support, collection, management, distribution and information services, long-term preservation, technology and copyright were analyzed. Characteristic of disciplinary and institutional repository policies were also identified.

  • With the understandings on users' needs and behaviors of university institutional repositories, the purpose of this study is to investigate the user behaviors and to provide some suggestions to improve the university institutional repository. To achieve the purpose of this study, a questionnaires survey was conducted with users in three university institutional repositories including KOSAS, S-Space and DSpace@INHA. Based on the results of the survey analyses, possible improvement areas and suggestions were made such as users' recognition, access point, searching environment, and utilization of university institutional repository.

  • This study attempts to measure visibility and impact of university repositories in South Korea with the help of web-sites, OpenDOAR, ROAR and RWR. Further understanding the self-archiving status of South Korea, the analysis results were compared with the reputation and power of major Asian countries' university repositories. The results showed that only nine institutional repositories of the universities in South Korea were active. There was only one South Korean university repository in the RWR top 500. All the other repositories ranked in bottom level. However, among Asian countries, Japan and Taiwan have established many institutional repositories. They had 257 and 52 repositories respectively. Fortunately, some leading university repositories in South Korea began activating self-archiving with the help of linking their own research outputs management system. Also, the attempts by other South Korean university repositories expect a substantial quantitative growth in the near future.

  • In order to share and reuse research data, data repositories are operated mainly by research institutes, communities, and countries. Currently, there are 3,236 data repositories registered on re3data.org, and the repositories are operated by each subject. The purpose of this study is to identify the operational status of data repositories in the Geoscience field and provide repository services in the field. As a result of the study, 634 out of 890 data repositories in the Geoscience field satisfied more than 4 out of 9 properties, confirming that approximately 74% of the repositories are generally well operated. In addition, as a result of checking the services in the repositories, it was found that they provide various implications in terms of data policy, curation, tools and APIs, and quality management. These research results will serve as a basis for reference when configuring data repository services in the Geoscience field in the future.

  • A data repository is being used as a tool for sharing and preserving research data. This study was conducted to investigate the current status of data repositories and to propose methods for obtaining Coretrustseal certification. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the current status of data repositories in the field of Geoscience was investigated at re3data.org, and 10 best practices that obtained Coretrustseal certification were analyzed among the repositories. First, as a result of identifying the current status of repositories, the United States, Germany, and Canada accounted for 66% of the total repositories by country, and in the case of CTS certification, the proportion of the United States, Europe, and Germany was 58%. Next, as a way to secure CTS certification, necessary details and requirements in terms of data policy, organizational infrastructure, and technical infrastructure were presented. It is hoped that the results of this study will be helpful in establishing and operating domestic data repositories and obtaining CTS certification.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the current status of institutional research data repositories in the field of science and technology and to suggest ways to activate them. The study conducted literature research, case analysis, and interviews with repository managers both domestically and internationally. The study suggested strategies with a focus on establishing repository regulations and policies, improving awareness of research data sharing, and enhancing research data quality management. First, in terms of repository regulations and policy establishment, it was considered necessary to promote the status of the National R&D Information Processing Standards, a regulation related to research data, and clarify repository basis regulations. Second, to enhance awareness of research data sharing, the need for comprehensive research data education and the identification of exemplary cases were suggested. Third, in terms of strengthening research data quality management, the need for preparation for interaction between researchers-persons in charge-committees, standardization work, and long-term preservation was suggested.

  • The open access repository means the knowledge information repository for the producer and the user to share in order for all users of the world to freely access the information free of charge with no legal, economic and technological barrier. This study analyzes and compares the functions offered by each repository by classifying the repository into the organizational repository (dCollection, DSpace@MIT) and the thematic repository (arXiv, PubMed Central) and evaluates the user-centered usability based on the analyzed data. This study at the current times, so called as the Web 2.0 era in which the free access and sharing of the information is important, can be said to have the meaning that the result from the usability evaluation on the open access repository will be used as the fundamental data for developing the future repository.
