Earned Value Management Systems Using 4D-CAD (4D CAD 활용을 통한 공정-원가 통합 시스템)

  • Cost and schedule are the major concerns for the successful construction project management. The four dimensional CAD (4D CAD) integrating graphical data and scheduling data has also been an area of research interests for improving construction controls. In order to achieve the benefits from these areas in an integrated way, this study proposes a 4D-EVMS system for the owners. Managerial requirements for cost and schedule control for the owners are identified first. A 4D-EVMS model is then proposed which provides functional flexibility in order to enhance the efficiency of the system. Lessons learned and practical implications are briefly summarize.

  • The rate of application of the modular plant in the plant industry is increasing, and for the success of the modularization projects, it is essential to develop and implement a systemized methodology across all phases of the project. However, Korean EPC firms lack project management capability when it comes to apply standardized methodology. Therefore, it is important to establish and systematize the cost/schedule integrated management method which are the two core elements of project management technology. This study was conducted to develop a methodology and guidelines for integrated management process for modular plant projects. The researchers developed a methodology for planning and managing cost and schedule, and integrated by module unit. Integrated cost and schedule methodology and guidelines developed can be used for various EPC modular plant projects to enhance the efficiency of project management.

  • In building construction project, there are numerous information or data parts across many different software applications and professional specialists. BIM (Building Information Modeling), as a medium for managing information generated during construction project, it is intended to enhance the effectiveness of construction management and reap a lot of advantages such as, automatic quantity takeoff, error-free estimation, 4D(3D+Time), 5D(4D+Cost) simulation. Nevertheless, the overall and practical effectiveness of BIM utilization is difficult to justify at this stage. While helpful, there are some limitation when BIM applied to construction management due to the differences of data processing process between BIM and work in the field, limitations of information generated from BIM object and interoperability problem among BIM application. Therefore, this paper propose a framework integrating BIM with cost-schedule information using IFC. And we construct the system prototype based on the framework and performed case study to examine the framework. The proposed framework provides the information basis for BIM based cost-schedule integration. ultimately, the framework increase the utilization of BIM and work efficiency of construction industry by supporting an understanding of information.

Construction Cost-Schedule Integration Management Methodolgy by using Progress Integration Unit (성과측정유닛을 활용한 건설 비용 - 일정 통합관리 방안)

  • Measuring and evaluating project progress and performance are the key element of the construction project success. Construction progress is typically measured quantitatively by evaluating cost and time allocated to the project deliverable, and thus properly integrating cost and time is essential to the project management. This research was performed to propose an alternative methodology to integrate the cost and time and provide a framework for the progress measurement. The researchers developed a typical work process for the cost and schedule planning and also developed an alternative cost-schedule integration method by using progress integration units (PIU). A discipline of a construction phase served as a common level for WBS and CBS integration, so the PIUs'were defined under discipline. A case study project was selected to validate the developed methodology. The result showed the proposed method improved efficiency of cost and time integration. The result also showed the excluding material for the progress measurement purpose significantly reduced the bias of progress measurement.

  • Recently, in Korea, a few construction companies have been tried to develop a management system, which is able to integrate schedule and cost. In spite of these attempts, however, advanced management techniques can be hardly applied under the BoQ based management system. In order to improve these problems, many studies have been peformed, but yet could not overcome practical limitations. Besides, the application of historical data is below the level since it is so difficult to accumulate and feed-back historical data under the unique character of construction industry. Consequently, lots of time and effort have being wasted to establish control criteria. The newly generated Information is not systematically managed as well. Therefore, this study suggests Integrated Construction Management System complemented the existing practical problems.

  • In domestic construction industry, time and cost has been managed separately in most cases. Usually projects are managed focused on cost, so time is not yet managed systematically. Project performance in these managemental situation can not be assessed correctly. This would cause project delay, cost overrun, productivity loss. Therefore it is needed to adopt earned value concept, an approach used in the management and control of project costs and schedules. Using this EV concept through time-cost integration, project can be managed properly based on the consistency, predictability, and reliability of the performance data. This paper proposed time and cost integration process, proper PMT method, and practical performance management model through time and cost integration.

  • The purpose of this study is to present an improvement of the form work process. The current slab form work has waste factor by unnecessary process and not complete integration with the finishing process. Therefore the study used value stream analysis methodology for effective improvement of slab form work process. The main contents of the study are as follows; 1) Understanding of non-value adding activities in existing slab form work process 2) Process integration by value stream mapping 3) Effect analysis of time-cost reduction. The study recommends that, as a future research, development of tool and technique for the non-value adding activities are eliminated in building construction.

  • 본 연구에서는 품질기능전개(QFD)를 품질전개, 기술전개, 원가전개, 신뢰성전개로 구분하여 각 단계에서 실무적으로 고려해야 할 중요한 사항을 제안한다. 품질전개에서는VOC로 J.D.Power사의 시장품질조사 방법을 활용할 것을 제안하며 기술전개에서는 새로운 SPC 공정도와 작업표준 작성방안을 제안한다. 끝으로 신뢰성 전개에서는 BOM의 구조분석과 RBD, FTA 통합기능분석, FMEA의 체계적인 정리 등의 3단계 전개방안을 제안한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to present an improvement building construction process by using prefabricated materials. The study recommends that, as a future research, development of tool and technique for the non-value adding activities are eliminated in building construction and application of prefabricated material should be increased.

  • This research has been Initiated to provide an effective management tool for budget control of the public projects using EVMS. Barriers to implementing the tool for the domestic public projects are identified : no PMB (Performance Measurement Baseline) for budget control, management by BOQ(bill of quantity), no systematic planning and control. To eliminate these barriers, an integrated cost and schedule management process model using EVMS is proposed. This model is composed of six sub processes : organizing, scheduling, budget allocating, establishing PMB, managerial analysis, change incorporation.
