  • This paper attempts to provide a new theoretical approach and an empirical analysis based on it to interrogate the structure of household income inequality and its changes in South Korea in the 2010s. Previous research on inequality in sociology, labor economics and feminism has focused on local inequalities which derive from specific spaces of society. For a comprehensive understanding of social inequality in totality, it requires a discussion of global inequality beyond local inequalities. Thus, a synthetic approach that integrates local inequalities, encompassing class, the labor market, population, and family. By using regression-based inequality decomposition, we decompose the contribution of gender, level of education, employment status, occupation, household composition and wealth to household income inequality. This paper shows that household and wealth, as well as the factors discussed in the previous research, are significant factors affecting household income inequality in South Korea.

  • The young generation in life cycle that social position is rapidly changing is play an important role in a regional development because they can increase social and natural population in the region. This study analyzed the relationship between the movement of young generation and the regional characteristics including housing market characteristics in Seoul. As the results, the movement of young generation was influenced by commuting distance and location of jobs as the gravity model has suggested. In addition, housing supply and housing price (or Jeonse price) is an important factor for the movement of young generation. It can be inferred that the more price gap such as Jeonse price and housing supply gap are increased, the more out-migration of young generation in Seoul is increased. However, the housing demand of young generation in employment centers will be increased because jobs contribute to increasing the inflow of young people. Therefore, the policies of central and Seoul government that supply housing in job rich and high accessibility areas are needed for young generation. In addition, if public housing and affordable housing are supplied in the other areas, it can contribute to reduce the out-migration of young people in Seoul.

  • This study aims to explore the moderated moderation effect of learning flow and professor-student interaction in the relationship between learning agility and job preparation behavior among engineering college students. Based on the data collected from 206 second-year students at P-college, the conditional effects of the research model (direct effect and moderated moderation effect) was analyzed using Process v3.5.3 for SPSS. As a result, first, the learning agility of engineering college students had a statistically significant and positive effect on job preparation behavior. Second, learning flow had a significantly negative and moderating effect in the relationship between learning agility and job preparation behavior. Third, the moderating effect of learning flow was moderated by the frequency of interaction between professor-student in the relationship between learning agility and job preparation behavior. And its effects were statistically significant and positive. Based on these results, academic and practical discussions and implications were presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the types of latent profiles depending on the job satisfaction of youth entrepreneurs in South Korea and examine the influence of related variables. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was conducted using data from the 12th year of the Youth Panel Study. Results of the study revealed that there were five latent profiles based on job satisfaction among young entrepreneurs: lowest job satisfaction, mid-low job satisfaction, middle job satisfaction, mid-high job satisfaction, and highest job satisfaction. By applying multinomial logistic analysis, the influencing factors for each latent profiles have been derived. Gender, marital status, subjective health, self-esteem, entrepreneurial motivation, difficulty in start-up, person-job fit, intrinsic or extrinsic job values, business scale, income, work hour, education or training, and labor insurance were significant predictors of youth entrepreneurs' job satisfaction. Based on these results, the article discusses practical implications that can enhance the job satisfaction of young entrepreneurs.

  • This study attempted to understand the effect of subjective class consciousness on the quality of life of female elderly people and to verify the multi-mediated effect of expectation of living standards and depression. To this end, an analysis was conducted using the SPSS Process Macro for 8,070 female elderly people aged 55 or older in the data of the "2018 Aging Research Panel Survey 7" of the Korea Employment Information Service. As a result of the analysis, first, it was found that the higher the subjective class consciousness of the elderly women, the higher the quality of life. Second, the higher the subjective class consciousness of the elderly women, the higher the expectation of living standards and the lower the depression. Third, in the relationship between the subjective class consciousness and quality of life of female elderly, when expectations and depression of living standards were simultaneously put into the regression equation, both variables were found to have significant mediating effects. Based on these research results, practical and policy implications for improving the quality of life of the elderly women were discussed together.

  • This study investigates what influences the 2030 households' intention to utilize housing support policies for the younger generation. Using the logistic regression model, our empirical results show that the 'the recognition of youth housing support projects', 'the housing occupation', 'employment type', 'housing type', and 'age' factors have a significant effect on the intention to use the housing support policies. Specifically, the intention is positively associated with economic activity, one-room residence, monthly rent, employment status during the Covid-19 period, and policy recognition, while negatively related to age. In addition, willingness to use the housing support policies is greater when respondents lived in a studio, lived on a monthly rent, recognized the policy, and improved their employment status. The results suggest that housing support programs need to be expanded and improved. Moreover, information on housing support policies should be efficiently delivered to eligible households, and more sophisticated housing support policies should be provided for young people early in their careers.

  • Since 2010, there have been phenomena that the recession of key industries has spreaded into a regional crisis, affecting the overall regional economy in Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the regional industrial structure and manufacturing competitiveness has been changed in Gunsan, which is in crisis due to the decline of the shipbuilding and automobile industries. As a result, the pace of change in industrial structure of Gunsan has accelerated, and this is because the mass employment released from the key industries has been absorbed into other industries, but there were no manufacturing fields that could replace the recession of the key industries. Among the manufacturing of Gunsan, the degree of specialization of the basic industries has been gradually weakened, and in addtion, the weakening of location competitiveness has brought a negative impact on the growth rate differential of the manufacturing. It is necessary to closely examine changes in characteristics of regional industrial structure for Gusan to find an alternative direction in order to respond to the manufacturing crisis.

  • Using youth panel data, this study attempted to diagnose the effect of residential characteristics (housing type and housing type) and various household background variables on the implementation of youth NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training), and to suggest appropriate policy directions. As a result of the analysis, it was found that young individuals residing in unfavorable living conditions such as those who rent on a monthly basis or live in multi-household, villa, or officetel settings, had a higher likelihood of transitioning to NEET. Those who received financial support from their parents were more likely to transition to NEET. Therefore, comprehensive youth NEET support policies such as customized housing and job policies according to the characteristics of NEET should be established. In particular, even though they have reached adulthood, it is shown that the likelihood of becoming NEET is very high for youth who live together with their parents without being economically independent or who receive financial assistance from their parents. In order to mitigate and prevent these young people from NEET transition, transitioning from school to the labor market should be facilitated with policy support.
