  • However, the academic identity of security related studies still remain as a task to be solved. In 2000, security related studies were newly established and offered in 60 universities, but the present condition is that the number of universities that offer the studies has decreased due to the issues such as reduction of freshmen and there are currently 39 universities (both two-year and four-year). In addition, an appropriately mixed use of name of the studies is being demanded in order to respond to the social overall market changes, as the names such as 'police', 'security', 'martial art' and 'non-commissioned officer'. Of course, the common goal the studies are pursuing is safety service activities for civilians. However, the present condition is that the establishment of university system is still insufficient, and the curriculum has composed loosely by professors in various field. Therefore, the two-year security related studies with strong market directivity in the security industry were selected in this thesis to highlight the realistic issues and comparatively analyze the curriculum of each school to deduce basic curriculum and future direction was presented. The wavering curriculum of each school while seeking the common goal of security related studies is reflecting the reality of unsettled security studies and it is a task that needs to be solved. The security related studies need reinforced education such as the method to provide opportunities of joint-task among professional manpower, academic-industrial cooperation process and academic-industrial joint-development, while adopting subdivided education.

  • In modern society, private securities have developed their capabilities continuously. However, despite the fact that not only security industries have been considerably expanded in quantity, but also plenty of scholars published diverse papers relating to security problems, qualitative growths of private securities have not accomplished fully. Especially, securing the President would not be guaranteed only by PSS(Presidential Security Service). In order to secure the President successfully, it is necessary for all the social parts to strive to protect the President. In this respect, improving private securities, including academic fields, might be critical so as to succeed in securing the President. Without the supports from private securities, there might be lots of security problems in national context. Therefore, this study proposes several policy suggestions for the cooperation among PSS, private security industries and academic fields: (1) Providing a lot of practical knowledge from PSS to college students, (2) Personnel exchange between academic parts and PSS to promote the efficiency of securing the President, (3) Furnishing diverse information and knowledge about security to private securities, (4) Formulating security-searching standards, (5) Expanding educational institutions under PSS.

  • In 2015 the Department of Education announced that it will make downsizing efforts by recommending classified downsizing ratio according to the evaluation of universities for active support toward autonomous efforts of universities with the possibilities of reform and qualitative structural reform for customized human resource cultivation according to the social demands. This is the preemtive structural reform preparing against the rapid decrease of the number of students, and the preparation for changing into competitive universities so that customized human resource that is needed in the society can be trained. Security Science Departments of Korea, first established in 1996, need changes in curriculum in order to prepare for the fourth revolution of the future, and are stagnant on the education goal and employment course. Therefore the adoption of related certificates, curriculum, NCS, and professional curriculum is needed. For example, Hansei University, Chung-Ang University, and Far East University have established the Department of Industrial Security, and Kyonggi University and Sungshin Women's University have established the Department of Convergence Security. Also, Konkuk University has established the Graduate School of Security and Disasters, the Graduate School of Information and Policy, the Graduate School of Criminal Justice, Gachon University the Graduate School of National Security, Sungkyunkwan University the Graduate School of Strategic Studies. This shows that the field of Security Science should not settle for itself. This article analyzes current curriculum and subjects of security, police, industrial security, military related academic departments of key universities. It is necessary to prepare for the future by predicting the change from the merge of academic departments and the demands of the times. As technical colleges are adopting NCS, this is the time to seek for systematic collaboration between universities and technical colleges and between industry, government, and academida.
