The Effect of Appearance Satisfaction on Self-esteem: Interpersonal Relationship Experience Mediation-Focusing on High School Students (청소년의 외모 만족이 자아존중감에 미치는 영향: 대인관계 경험 매개 효과-고등학생을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this research was to understand the relations between the satisfaction of appearance and self-esteem and to prove mediating effect of interpersonal experience in that relation. The 239 subjects were selected from 118, 121 of male and female high school students in Seongnam. The research tools were Body Esteem Scale, the Self-Esteem Inventory and Relationship Scale. The Result of study were sa follows. First, appearance satisfaction, experience of relation and self-esteem had correlations in each relation. Second, Interpersonal experience would demonstrate self-esteem, and partial mediating effect was generated in the relations between appearance satisfaction and self-esteem. Especially, partial mediating effect was male student was higher. Based on these results, it was discussed the positive effects of positive interpersonal experiences on self-esteem for adolescents with low self-esteem due to low level of physical satisfaction and the direction of youth coaching.

A Study of Relationship of Webmedia addictive Experience and Self-identity (웹미디어의 중독적 이용 경험과 개인의 자아정체성에 관한 연구)

  • This study emphasized the self-examination to using webmedia. Proliferation of media-mediated experience cause the reduce and infringe of human experience, and It is suggested to problem to negative operation for Self-identity. Expecially, A tendency of addictive using of Webmedia produce the serious anxiety. Based on this discussion, the relationship of web-media addictive experiences and Self-identity has been studied. There are 9 groups of panels who are divided by using degree of web media experience, the quantitative dimension and addictive involvement, the qualitative dimension. As a result high significance was suggested between the level of web-media addictive experience and Self-identity. Expecially, highly web media experienced group has less Self-identity than low web-media experience group. therefore, Concerns on Web-media mediated experiences were demonstrated. According to the results, in terms of web-media experiences, addictive involvement level affects more meaningfully to the Self-identity than quantitative dimension approach.

Effects of child abuse and neglect on male·female high school students' ego-resilience and self-esteem: Moderating roles of peer attachment and closeness to teachers (부모학대 및 방임이 남녀 고등학생의 자아탄력성과 자아존중감에 미치는 영향: 또래애착과 교사친밀감의 조절효과)

  • This study aimed to analyze the effects of child abuse and neglect on male·female high school students and the moderating roles of peer attachment and closeness to teachers in the process. By using the second to the seventh yearsʼ data of 4th grade elementary school student panel participating in the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), the study calculated descriptive statistics and performed hierarchical regressions. The main results of this study were as follows. First, for male high school students, as each level of child abuse, peer attachment, and closeness to teachers was higher, the level of ego-resilience was higher. However, as the level of child neglect was higher, the level of ego-resilience was lower. For female high school students, as the level of child neglect was higher, the level of ego-resilience was lower, while each level of peer attachment and closeness to teachers was higher, the level of ego-resilience was higher. In addition, for only male high school students, peer attachment moderated the effect of child abuse on ego-resilience. On the other hands, for both male and female high school students, as the level of child abuse and neglect were higher, the level of self-esteem was lower, while each level of peer attachment and closeness to teachers was higher, the level of self-esteem was higher. Moreover, for only female high school students, peer attachment moderated the effects of child abuse and neglect on self-esteem.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect which may operate within bulling-related experience and bulling conformity types in upper-grade elementary school children. The parameter name is ego-resilience. The participants in this research consisted of 445 upper-grade elementary school children. The main result are the following. First, bulling-related experiences had a direct influence upon bulling conformity types (attacker conformity to the victims. conformity, bystander) without using the parametric ego-resilience. Expecially, the bulling-related experience had a positive relationship with attacker conformity. Second, based on the analysis of the relationship between bulling-related experience and bulling conformity types, using the parametric ego-resilience, it was found out that the bulling-related experience have an effect on bulling conformity types both directly and indirectly. Concretely, the parametric ego-resilience has increased from victim conformity and bystander, but decreased from attacker conformity.

  • The objective of this study is to understand the influence of discrimination experience on life satisfaction of the employed hearing-impaired, and also to verify the mediating effects of self-esteem on relations between discrimination experience and life satisfaction. To achieve this objective, the data of the 8th Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled was used, and then the extracted data of 234 employed hearing-impaired persons was used for analysis. The results of this study are like below. First, discrimination experience showed negative(-) relations with self-esteem and life satisfaction while self-esteem showed positive(+) relations with life satisfaction. Second, when the perception of discrimination experience was low, the life satisfaction was high. Third, the mediating effects of self-esteem were verified on relations between discrimination experience and life satisfaction. Marital status, health, social-economical position has effected on life satisfaction. Based on such results of the study, suggestions were made to increase life satisfaction of the hearing-impaired.

  • This study attempts to reveal that the connection between consumers' self enhancement and consumer-brand relationship can be formed from brand experiences not only through a direct use of products or brands but also through companies' marketing activities including advertising or promotion, in that consumers' sensual, affective, cognitive, and behavioral response to brands are included in brand experiences. After experiencing the Samsung Galaxy S brand with manipulated stimulus, 248 respondents' positive emotion and self-enhancement were increased. Also the positive emotion induced by brand experience increase self-enhancement. This study also shows that brand experience and self-enhancement can significantly affect consumer-brand relationship which in turn affects brand loyalty such as satisfaction, recommendation intention, and repurchase intention. Experiencing strong, favorable, and attractive brand personalities may help consumers to increase positive emotions with self-enhancement and help companies to have brand loyalty through consumer-brand relationship.

  • This study investigated the effects of middle school youth's abuse experiences on the ego-resilience and the moderating effects of social support. For this purpose, the survey and analysis were carried out targeted on 568 students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade of middle schools in Busan. First, it was indicated that abuse experiences of youth affect on ego- resilience. In detail, the lower the grade and the less the abuse experiences, the ego-resilience gets increased. Second, in view of impacts of youth's abuse experiences on resilience, the social support has a moderating effect. Based on the results above, this study suggests the social support measures to be taken by home, school, community and country in order to improve the resilience which could be a self-power to overcome his or her own circumstances and situations despite the negative experiences of abuse experienced youth.

  • This study examines the effect of adolescents' experiences of school violence on complex post-traumatic stress disorder(cPTSD) and the moderating effect of self-esteem on this relationship. For this purpose, the data surveyed on 291 adolescents was used in the study, and the research model was verified through moderated regression analysis. The results are as follows: Experience of school violence and self-esteem had a significant effect on cPTSD. It was confirmed that self-esteem had moderated an effect of the experience of school violence on cPTSD. Even if the level of experiences of school violence was the same, high self-esteem could reduce the cPTSD. Based on the results of the study, methods to reduce the problem of school violence among adolescents and the cPTSD caused by it were suggested.

The effect of North Korean Refugee Women's Experiences of Social Violence and Self-esteem on Suicidal Thoughts (사회적 폭력경험과 자아존중감이 북한이탈여성의 자살생각에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of violence experience and self-esteem experienced in social scenes such as work and school on suicidal thoughts. For this purpose, I used the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family(2017)'s data of the current situation of social violence victims. To this end, descriptive statistics, correlation, and hierarchical binary logistic regression analysis were performed. The findings of this study are as follows: The experience of social violence among North Korean refugee women had a positive effect on suicidal thoughts, and self-esteem had a negative effect on suicide-related features. This means that if you have experienced social violence, you are more likely to have suicidal thinking, and the higher your self-esteem is, the less likely your suicidal thinking is. Based upon the results of this study, practical intervention measures were proposed to prevent social violence, and to improve physical/mental health and self-esteem of North Korean refugee women.

The Effect of Middle School Students' Emotional Trauma to Internet·Smart Phone Addiction : The Moderating Effect of Self-Esteem (중학생의 정서적 외상경험이 인터넷·스마트폰 중독 성향에 미치는 영향 : 자아존중감의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the moderating effect of self-esteem between emotional trauma and internet smart phone addiction of adolescents. For this purpose, this study confirmed moderating effect by setting emotional trauma as predicting variable, self-esteem as moderating variable and internet smart phone addiction as dependent variable. The study conducted a questionnaire survey on 645 middle school students regarding emotional trauma, self-esteem and internet smart phone addiction. The results of this study are as follows; first, emotional trauma had negative correlation with self-esteem and positive correlation with internet smart phone addiction. Self-esteem had negative correlation with internet smart phone addiction. Second, as the result of hierarchical regression analysis, there was an interaction effect of emotional trauma and self-esteem on internet smart phone addiction. The meaning of this study are as follows; first, it is proved that one of the causes of internet smart phone addiction is adolescent's emotional trauma and, second, it is proved that the intervention of self-esteem is required to reduce the negative effect of adolescent's emotional trauma. That is, it turned out that self-esteem moderated the relationship between emotional trauma and internet smart phone addiction.
