  • Numerical study on the passive control of the oblique shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction control utilizing slotted plates over a cavity has been carried out. Numerical results have been compared with the experimental observations, such as pitot/wall surface pressures and Schlieren flow visualizations, obtained for the same boundary conditions. It was found that the present numerical results shows a good agreement with experimental data. Further, the effect of different slot configurations including various number, location and angle of slots on the characteristics of the interactions are also tested, focusing on the variation of the piot pressure and the boundary-layer characteristics downstream of the interaction and the recirculating mass flux through cavity.

  • During feeding oxidizer to the engine, vortices are occurred at lower dome of oxidizer tank inside by various working environments and external forces for liquid propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle. To eliminate the vortices or swirls Anti-Vortex Devices(AVD) shall be installed at inside lower oxidizer tank. Using the numerical analysis, we have confirmed the performance of AVD and analyzed the mass flow rate by feeding time and magnitudes of swirls on the free surface of oxidizer or exit surface according to the AVD number and length. Then we could derive the optimal design of the AVD number and length.

  • Applicabilities of two 3-D hydrodynamic models on Chungkye Bay in which tidal flats are well developed were examined. Both EFDC model and ESCORT model with the ${\sigma}$-coordinate showed fairly good results. However, their efficiencies were lowered especially on the tidal flats due to dense vertical grids. This inefficiency could be overcome by using the z-coordinate of the ESCORT model keeping similar accuracy.

  • The computation of normal depth is very important for the design of channel and the analysis of water flow. Drainage pipe generally has the shape of curvature like circular or U-type, which is different from artificial triangular or rectangular channel. In this case, the computation of normal depth or the derivation of equations is very difficult because the change of hydraulic radius and area versus depth is not simple. If the ratio of the area to the diameter, or the hydraulic radius to the diameter of pipe is expressed as the water depth to the diameter of pipe by power law, however, the process of computing normal depth becomes relatively simple, and explicit equations can be obtained. In the present study, developed are the explicit normal depth equations for circular and U-type pipes, and the normal depth equation associated with Hagen (Manning) equation and friction factor equation of smooth turbulent flow by power law is also proposed because of its wide usage in engineering design.

  • The fiber bridging model is the crucial factor to predict or analyze the tensile behavior of fiber reinforced cementitious composites. This paper presents the fiber bridging constitutive law considering the distribution of fiber inclined angle and the number of fibers in engineered cementitious composites. The distribution of fiber inclined angle and the number of fibers are measured and analyzed by the image processing technique. The fiber distribution are considerably different from those obtained by assuming two- or three-dimensional random distributions for the fiber inclined angle. The simulation of the uniaxial tension behavior was performed considering the distribution of fiber inclined angle and number of fibers measured by the sectional image analysis. The simulation results exhibit multiple cracking and strain hardening behavior that correspond well with test results.

  • In this study, the flow analyses by type of shock absorber orifice were carried out. A shock absorber is indispensable for the ride comfort that is important at the standard of a good car. As the analysis procedure, the actual speed of the shock absorber was set as the flow rate when the cylinder was advanced. And the flow analysis results on models A, B and C of shock absorber models were compared with each other. As the examination on the flow orifice in the vicinity of each model through the analysis of flow, the performance of shock absorber were recognized. On the whole, model A had the fastest flow rate and also had the largest flow rate. Model B had the slowest flow rate and the flow rate features of models B and C with the same number of orifices were similar. Through this study, it is possible to see which shock absorber orifice model facilitates the flow inside the cylinder and increases the ride comfort. It is seen that this analysis result on the flow analyses by type of shock absorber orifice can be applied by converging with the field of design.

  • This study was devoted to elucidating the change in the flow characteristics of a laminar flow past a circular cylinder by modifying the cylinder shape with O-grooves. A numerical analysis was performed in a two-dimensional framework. The cylinder was represented using an immersed boundary method and marker particles on a Cartesian grid system. The number and locations of the O-grooves were the key parameters. An analysis of the flow pattern and flow-induced forces was performed at Re = 40 and 50. In addition, we calculated the critical Reynolds number depending on the number of O-grooves and their locations.

  • Computational study on the passive control of the oblique shock-wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction utilizing slotted plates over a cavity has been carried out. The numerical boundary layer profile upstream of the interaction follows the compressible turbulent boundary-layer theory reasonably well, and the other results also show good agreements with the experimental observations, such as the wall surface pressures and Schlieren flow visualizations. Further, the effects of various slot configuration including number, location and angle of the slots on the characteristics of the interactions, such as the variation of the total pressures, the boundary-layer characteristics downstream of the interaction and the recirculating mass flux through the slots, are also tested and compared.
