  • This study aimed to verify the mediating effect of rejection sensitivity on the relationship between self-esteem and happiness among nursing students. From May 30 to June 10, 2018, 214 nursing students from a university were selected for convenience, and the results were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The degree to which the rejection sensitivity of nursing students is mediated by self-esteem and happiness was determined following the guidelines of Baron and Kenny, and the Sobel test was used to verify the statistical significance of the mediated effects. There was a positive correlation between self-esteem and happiness among nursing students(r=.62, p<.001) and a negative correlation between rejection sensitivity and happiness(r=-.33, p<.001). A partially mediated effect (Z=3.769, p<.001) of rejection sensitivity was found on the relationship between self-esteem and happiness of nursing students. Therefore, education and activity programs are needed to increase the happiness of nursing students and help them maintain a satisfactory college life.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the levels of academic stress, ego-resilience, and health promoting behaviors of nursing students, and to examine the relationship between these variables. The participants were 208 nursing students(freshman/sophomore). Data were collected from April 3 to April 21, 2017 by self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 19.0 program(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The results of this study were as follows: the mean academic stress score was $3.17{\pm}0.55$, ego-resilience was $2.70{\pm}0.38$, and health promoting behaviors was $2.47{\pm}0.32$. There were significant differences in health promoting behaviors based on residence status, satisfaction with major, satisfaction with school life and health status. There was a negative correlation between health promoting behaviors and academic stress(r=-0.36, p=0.000), while there was a positive correlation between health promoting behaviors and ego-resilience(r=0.60, p=0.000). Variables such as ego-resilience, academic stress, satisfaction with school life, residence status, health status and satisfaction with major explained 43.3% of the variance in health promoting behaviors. Based on these results, it is necessaryto develop interventions and programs to reduce academic stress and increase ego-resilience to improve health promotion in nursing students.

  • This study is a descriptive research study for analyzing the relevance among stress, anxiety, and ego-resilience in nursing college students before clinical practice. The survey was conducted targeting the second-year students in a K college who were anticipating their first clinical practice. The survey result showed that female students showed higher stress levels than male students (t=-5.51, p<.001) before clinical practice. Female students also showed higher anxiety levels than male students (t=-3.30, p=.001) before clinical practice. The students showed higher anxiety levels before clinical practice as they felt more strongly that they were in bad health (F=3.27, p=.041), as their personality was less outgoing (t=-3.32, p=.001), and as they had a lower satisfaction level in their major (F=7.25, p=.001). The students showed higher ego-resilience levels before clinical practice as they felt more strongly that they were in good health (F=3.74, p=.026) and as their personality was more outgoing (F=3.19, p=.002). The stress and anxiety levels before clinical practice also had a positive correlation (r=.211, p=.010) and the ego-resilience and anxiety before clinical practice had a negative correlation (r=-.313, p<.001). Based on the finding, it is necessary to develop the competence improvement program that can reduce the anxiety of nursing college students before clinical practice in order to improve their ego-resilience.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a balanced scorecard (BSC) for performance measurement of a Korean hospital nursing organization and to evaluate the validity and reliability of performance measurement indicators. Method: Two hundred fifty-nine nurses in a Korean hospital participated in a survey questionnaire that included 29-item performance evaluation indicators developed by investigators of this study based on the Kaplan and Norton's BSC (1992). Cronbach's alpha was used to test the reliability of the BSC. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis with a structure equation model (SEM) was applied to assess the construct validity of the BSC. Result: Cronbach's alpha of 29 items was .948. Factor analysis of the BSC showed 5 principal components (eigen value>1.0) which explained 62.7% of the total variance, and it included a new one, community service. The SEM analysis results showed that 5 components were significant for the hospital BSC tool. Conclusion: High degree of reliability and validity of this BSC suggests that it may be used for performance measurements of a Korean hospital nursing organization. Future studies may consider including a balanced number of nurse managers and staff nurses in the study. Further data analysis on the relationships among factors is recommended.
