Effect of Locus of Control and Self-efficacy on Stress of Selected Dental Hygiene Students (일부 치위생과 학생의 통제소재, 자기효능감이 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine effect of locus of control and self-efficacy on stress of selected dental hygiene students. This study provides basic data to develop a method to reduce stress. The students of A women's college in Kyungi province majoring in dental hygiene were asked to answer the locus of control scale, self-efficacy scale, and stress level. As a result, this study concluded the following findings: 1. Locus of control scale was 8.77 and it meant the students used internal control. Self-efficacy scale was beyond median. In stress level category, mean of stress was 2.32, stress with friends was 2.05, stress with money was 2.33, stress with course in life was 2.29, stress with family members was 2.24, stress with study was 2.95. 2. Stress had negative relations with locus of control and self-efficacy. There was a positive relation between locus of control and self-efficacy. 3. Effect of self-efficacy on stress was significantly negative but effect of locus of control on stress was insignificant. In subscale, effect of self-efficacy and locus of control on stress with study was insignificant. 4. Indirect effect of locus of control on stress was statistically significant. The students with internal locus of control showed high self-efficacy and the students with high self-efficacy showed low stress level. In conclusion, educators should make an effort to reduce stress of students and understand the factors related to stress.

Effects of Sense of Self-Control and Depression on Pregnant Women's State-Anxiety (임부의 자아통제감과 우울이 불안에 미치는 영향)

  • This purpose of this study was to investigate sense of self-control, depression and factors influencing on state-anxiety in pregnant women and to identify factors influencing state-anxiety. Data were collected 160 pregnant women. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, t-test, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Stepwise Regression Analysis. There was statistically significant difference in sense of self-control on variable such as income. There were statistically significant difference in depression on variables such as occupation, living together with family-in-laws, planned pregnancy. There were statistically significant difference in state-anxiety on variables such as age, history of childbirth. State-anxiety was positively correlated with depression. State-anxiety was negatively correlated with sense of self-control. Depression was negatively correlated with sense of self-control. Factor influencing State-anxiety were sense of self-control, depression and history of childbirth, which explained 51.4%. Therefore, prenatal management programs need to be developed giving consideration to the emotional change in order to promote psychological stability in the pregnant women.

Study on Factors for Efficacy and Purpose of Starting Business after Middle Aged Workers' Retirement (중년 직장인의 퇴직 후 창업효능감 및 창업의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study was intended to find out the factors affecting the efficacy and purpose of starting new business after their retirement of middle-aged office workers. The study also analyzed the relationship among these factors, founder's innovational mind, achievement desire, risk-taking mind and family support. For the purpose, questionnaires were collected 346 middle-aged employees working in Seoul and Kyonggi-do area. The findings were as follows. First, personal achievement desire and risk-taking mind strongly affected the efficacy of starting new business. Second, innovational mind, achievement desire and risk-taking mind had a positive effect on the purpose of starting new business. Third, family support had a moderate effect between achievement desire and the efficacy of the starting new business.

Associations between Adolescents' Perceived Parental Control and Internalized/Externalized Problems : Self-esteem as a Mediator (청소년의 부모통제지각과 내·외현문제의 관계 : 자존감의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is two-fold. One is to investigate the relationship between parental psychological/behavioral control and adolescents' self-esteem and their internalized/externalized problems. The other is to examine if self-esteem mediate the effects of parental control upon adolescents' internalized/externalized problems. Total of 355 girls(52%) and boys(48%) from middle(48%) and high school(52%) were participated. Results indicated that adolescents' self-esteem, and internalized/externalized problems were negatively related to parental psychological control, and positively related to parental behavioral control. It was also found that self-esteem partially mediated the effects of parental psychological control upon adolescents' internalized problems, and completely mediated the effects of parental behavioral control on their internalized as well as externalized problems. Some implications for advisable parenting behaviors were discussed.

The Effects of Undergraduate's Optimism and Family-control on Their Awareness of Caregiving for the Elderly (대학생의 낙관성과 가족통제감이 노인부양의식에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study was to examine the effects of undergraduate's optimism and family-control on their awareness of caregiving for the elderly. The subjects for this study were 374 undergraduates from 4 universities in G city. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN(ver. 12.0) program, and frequency and percentile, mean and standard deviation, t-test, correlation analysis, multiple regression, and path analysis were utilized. The main findings of the study were as follows. The undergraduate's degree of optimism and family-control, and their awareness of caregiving for the elderly were slightly higher than the average. In addition, the undergraduate's optimism and family-control were differed according to their 'existence and/or nonexistence of religion', and their awareness of caregiving for the elderly was significantly different depending on 'existence and/or nonexistence of religion', and 'existence and/or nonexistence of living together with their grandparents'. It was also found that the undergraduate's awareness of caregiving for the elderly was directly influenced by their family-control, whereas their awareness of caregiving for the elderly was indirectly influenced by their optimism via family-control.

Adolescent Perspective on Mother's Psychological Controls, Family Strengths and Personal Psychological Well-Being (아동이 지각한 어머니의 심리통제와 가족의 건강성 및 아동의 심리적 복지감과의 관계 - 성차를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze relationships between mother's psychological controls, family strengths, and psychological well-beings as perceived by children. In total, 529 6th graders from Seoul and Buchon participated in the study, Results were as follows: Firstly, gender differences were observed in the awareness of psychological well-beings but not in perception of mother's psychological controls and family strengths. Secondly, the children's awareness of mother's psychological controls and family strengths were correlated with their psychological well-beings the more children were aware of their mother's psychological controls, the less likely they were to be aware of their family strengths and psychological well beings. Finally, children's awareness of family strengths had remarkable influence on their psychological well-being.

Effects of an Integrative Art Therapy Program on Self-Efficacy and Conflict Coping Strategies in Marriage Migrant Women (결혼이주여성을 위한 통합예술치료 프로그램이 자기유능감 및 갈등대처방식에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an integrative art therapy program for marriage migrant women to improve self-efficacy, learn conflict resolution strategies, and establish close family relationship. The participants of the program were limited to marriage migrant women residing in A City who lived in Korea for more than two years. 30 women for the experimental group and 31 women for the control group were randomly sampled. Eight sessions were offered. A pre-test was conducted in the first session and a post-test was done one month after the program was finished. The results of the program suggested that the experimental group had a higher effect on self-efficacy and conflict resolution strategies than the control group. The integrative art therapy program for marriage migrant women conducted in this study aims for marriage migrant women to recover confidence and actively establish happy marital and family relationship by providing an opportunity to make success experience. Moreover, the program is intended to be applied to the field to build up the foundation of family and social adjustment in marriage migrant women.

The Influence of Adolescents' Self-Esteem on Life Satisfaction: Verifying Moderated Mediation of Peer Relations Mediated by Altruism and Self-Regulation (청소년의 자아존중감이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향: 이타심과 자기통제에 의한 또래관계의 조절된 매개효과 검증)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was aimed to examine the effect of self-esteem on life satisfaction and happiness among adolescents, and to verify moderated mediation of peer relations mediated by altruism and self-regulation. Method: The study referred to the 2015 Annual Report of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. More precisely, report on the fourth year research process of the study cohort comprising 2,091 subjects was used to verify the research model. Overall data were analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 program and specifically, moderated mediation were verified by using SPSS Macro, as suggested by Preacher, etc. (2008). Results: As a result, firstly, the peer relations mediated the relationship between life satisfaction and self-esteem among adolescents. Secondly, altruism and self-regulation had moderated mediation effects between self-esteem and peer relations among adolescents. Conclusion: These results suggest that self-esteem affects on life satisfaction and happiness by mediation of peer relations among adolescents and altruism and self-regulation agent is applied positive adjustment to further promote the peer relations and increase life satisfaction among adolescents. Through these study results, the implications for counseling and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Development of Music Psychotherapy Program Applying the Inner Family System(IFS) to Reduce Adult Depression and Improve Self-Esteem (성인의 우울 감소와 자아존중감 향상을 위한 내면가족체계(IFS)적용 음악심리치료 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop music psychotherapy program applying the Inner Family System(IFS) to reduce adult depression and improve self-esteem and to verify its effectiveness. For this, literature search and theoretical basis were prepared, and validity was secured through a demand survey and evaluation by experts. After going through the preliminary program, the final program consisting of 10 sessions was developed after revision and supplementation. To verify the effectiveness of the program, 25 people who met the selection criteria with a score of 20 or higher on the Depression Scale(CES-D) were selected. Of the 25 subjects, 10 subjects in the experimental group, 10 subjects in the control group, and 5 subjects in the preliminary group were randomly assigned and analyzed as final study subjects. The experimental group performed 10 sessions of music psychotherapy applying IFS twice a week for 90 minutes, and the control group did not receive any treatment. As a result of data analysis, first, it was confirmed that there was a difference between the experimental group and the control group in the change patterns according to the measurement period of overall depression and the sub-factors, depressive emotion, interpersonal emotion, and physical depression score. Second, the effects were statistically significant on overall self-esteem and sub-factors such as self-deprecation, relationship with others, leadership and popularity, assertion and anxiety. Third, it was confirmed that the pattern of change according to the measurement period of the IFS score differed between the experimental and control groups.

Community Participation Affects Marriage Immigrant Women's Parenting Efficacy (지역사회참여가 결혼이주여성의 양육효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study empirically tests whether community participation has a positive effect on parenting efficacy among marriage immigrant women in South Korea. The 3rd wave of the Gyoenggi Education Welfare Panel data was used, which includes 396 marriage immigrant women residing in Gyoenggi Province. Findings of hierarchical multiple regression analyses suggested that higher Korean language proficiency, shorter duration of residency, lower parenting stress and more positive family environment were associated with higher parenting efficacy. Community participation level had a statistically significant and positive impact on parenting efficacy, even after controlling for other variables. The type of community activities did not have significant impact on parenting efficacy, except for children's school activities, which had a negative impact on parenting efficacy. Implications for social work practice are discussed.
