Esculetin Inhibits Adipogenesis and Increases Antioxidant Activity during Adipocyte Differentiation in 3T3-L1 Cells

  • This study was conducted to investigate the anti-adipogenic activity of esculetin (ECT) which is reported to be attributable to the modulation of antioxidant enzymes during adipogenesis. After six days of ECT treatment of 3T3-L1 cells, lipid accumulation was determined by Oil red O staining. The levels of glutathione (GSH) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the activities of antioxidant enzymes including glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and catalase were examined. In addition, the protein expression of glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) was measured by Western blot. ECT significantly inhibited lipid accumulation by approximately 80% and ROS production in a concentration-dependent manner. GSH level and GPx activity were increased by ECT by approximately 1.3-fold and 1.7-fold compared to the control group, respectively. GCLC and HO-1 expression were elevated by ECT. These results showed that ECT treatments strongly inhibit adipogenesis, increase GSH level, and upregulate the expression of GCLC and HO-1, possibly by decreasing ROS production in 3T3-L1 cells during adipogenesis.

Microstructural and Piezoelectric Properties of Low Temperature Sintering PMN-PZT Ceramics with the Variations of Sintering Times (저온소결 PMN-PZT 압전세라믹의 소성시간에 따른 미세구조 및 압전특성)

  • In this paper, in order to develop the low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric transformer, PMN-PZT ceramics were manufactured with the variations of sintering times, and their microstructural, piezoelectric and dielectric properties were investigated. Li$_2$CO$_3$ and Bi$_2$O$_3$ were used as sintering aids and the specimens were sintered during 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 minutes, respectively. At the specimen sintered during 90 minute, mechanical quality factor(Qm), electro-mechanical coupling factor(kp) and dielectric constant were showed the optimum values of 2,356, 0.504 and 1,266, respectively.

  • Sublimation vapour pressures and sublimation enthalpy of anhydrous bismuth trifluoride have been measured by the continuous gravimetric Cnudsen-effusion method from 639-7 to 782.8 K. Additional effusion measurements have also been made from 750.6 to 863.1 K by the torsion-effusion method. Based on a correlation of subHo298.15 and subSo298.15, a recommended P(T) equation has been obtained for BiF3(s); logP= -C/T+5.2375logT-3.205$\times$10-3+4.661$\times$104/T2+1.348 where P is in Pa, T in Kelvin, subHo298.15 in kJ mol-1 and C=( subHo298.15-13.5149)/1.9146$\times$10-2. Condensation coefficients and their temperature dependence have been derived from the effusion measurements.

Microstructure of the Oriented Hexagonal HoMnO3 Thin Films by PLD

  • We have fabricated (0001) oriented hexagonal $HoMnO_3$ thin films with thickness of 300 nm using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique on $Pt(111)/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrates. The XRD $\theta-2\theta$ pattern shows only (0002), (0004), and (0008) reflection of a hexagonal phase, and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of (0004) peak is under $1.6^{\circ}$. The chemical state of Mn from XPS spectra of the films reveals the presence of $Mn^{3+}$ only. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant shows a weak anomaly at magnetic $N\acute{e}el$ temperature $(T_N)$, which is about 70 K.

  • Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) molecule has been successfully encapsulated in biocompatible inorganic matrix in order for the cosmetic application such as superfacial fine line reduction. The encapsulation was realized through chemical reaction involving simultaneous formation of inorganic lattice and 1M giving rise to an 1M-inorganic nanohybrid (IAA-brid) which shows excellent storage stability and sustained releasing property of indole-3-acetic acid. The clinical efficacy of essence cream containing IAA-brid as anti-wrinkle formulation was also carefully evaluated by measuring the roughness of the skin replica before and after treatment. Upon administration of the cream on the eye-area, the fine-line is drastically reduced.

  • 지금까지 지리 데이터를 다루는 다양한 시스템들은 서로 독립적으로 개발되어 왔다. 최근에는 이러한 시스템에 분산되어 있는 방대한 양의 데이터에 대한 상호 운용성이 요구되고 있으며 이를 지원하기 위해 개방형 GIS 명세서의 2 차원 공간 모델을 확장한 3 차원 시공간 데이터 모델을 제안하였다. 또한 제안된 모델을 컴포넌트 형태로 제공함으로써 컴포넌트의 장점인 확장성과 재사용성을 그대로 수용하였다. 특히 제안된 모텔에서의 이동 객체는 이력 객체와 동일한 자료 구조로 저장되므로, 이동 객체의 경우 시간에 따른 연속적인 데이터의 변화를 표현하기 위해 각 버전간의 관계에 대한 정의가 필요하다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 3 차원 시공간 상에서 이동 객체를 이동 점 계열의 객체와 이동 영역 계열의 객체로 나누어 논의하고, 이동 객체의 시간적 특성과 공간적 특성에 따른 변화를 효율적으로 표현하기 위한 내부 구조를 설계하였다.

Electrical Conductivity of the System ThO$_2-Ho_2O_3$

  • The electrical conductivitv of the system $ThO_2-Ho_2O_3$ was measured in the temperature range 600-$1100^{\circ}C$ and $Po_2$range $10^{-5}-2{\times}10^{-1}$ atm. The mean value of activation energy was 1.45 eV. The observed conductivity dependence on $Po_2$ was ${Po_2}^{1/4}$ at $Po_2$'s above $10^{-3}$ atm and was independent on oxygen partial pressure at $Po_2$'s below $10^{-3}$ atm. It is suggested that these dependences are due to a mixed ionic plus electron hole conduction by Vo defect.

  • InSb (III-V compound semiconductor) is used for photodiode to detect the mid-wavelength infrared radiation. Generally the quantum efficiency of InSb IR FPAs(Focal Plane Arrays) is known to be determined by thickness of InSb and transmittance of anti-reflection coating layer. In this study, we confirmed that the C-V characteristics of detector array affects the quantum efficiency of the InSb IR FPAs. We fabricated the IR FPAs with various $V_{fb}$(flat band voltage) values and confirmed the tendency between the $V_{fb}$ value and quantum efficiency of the IR FPAs.
