Building materials have a great impact on the health of a building's occupants. Thus, it is imperative that their health-related properties be taken into during the course of construction project. Unfortunately, no current database system exists that can provide information on the health performance of building materials at each stage of construction project management, from planning and design to building and maintenance. therefore, an inordinate amount of time and effort is required to choose the right health-friendly materials(DBHM). To solve this problem, this study aims at building a database management system for health-friendly building materials. It analyzes the health-related properties and performance of various materials, and proposes a database structure and operation algorithm. The system proposed in this study is expected to contribute to the objective evaluation of health-friendly building materials through the accumulation of relevant data.

Korean traditional houses have been developed in harmony with natural environment and comfortable indoor condition by using the natural resources including building layout, space composition and materials. Originally Korea traditional architectures have used wood lintel constructions and loess walls through the many years. Theses loess have many strength such as highly heat capacity, controling of humidity, a deodorant than any other materials. Nowaday it is recommended to use exterior and interior walls in loess wall to meet the eco-friendly materials to improve our residental environmental. Thus this study aims to research the sound insulation performance of traditional loess brick wall varied with thickness, thermal insulation materials and cavity wall. The sound insulation performance of these loess walls are compared with other masonry wall's and sound insulation performance of th walls were tested in anechoic laboratory to measure the sound transmission loss of these walls. The loess brick wall with 75mm thickness of cavity is shown the sound insulation performance with Rw 57 which is nearly same performances of 1B brick wall and cement 8' block wall, The improving effect of insulation materials is shown in the high frequency bandwidth. Especially, there is improving as much as 11 dB using the extruded poly stylene form(75mm) and poly ethylene film(0.7mm).

In modern architecture, the air-tight construction aimed at saving the energy rather causes ventilation problems and the artificial materials for cost reduction worsen the residential quality. To deal with such negative effect, the study on evaluating the health performance becomes increasingly critical. Among the various factors such as design quality, selected material, construction method and mechanical system that shall be subject to evaluation to identify the health performance of the building, the study was aimed at investigating the legal standards associated with healthy building in various countries. Such evaluation items will provide inputs for an attempt to build legal criteria for a building health performance rating system in Korea.

Lately construction companies are differentiating the outdoor spaces of apartment complexes to satisfy the needs of residents by providing underground parking area and variety of outdoor community spaces. Building walking networks through residential unit area, the major passage area and the entrance area of the complexes is very important factor to increase the use of the outdoor environment in the complexes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics and the elements for the planning of exterior pedestrian spaces carefully through the analysis of current large-scale apartment complexes. In this study, the utilization of space, the connectivity to other spaces and the application of Universal design were evaluated through site visits in 5 large-scale apartment complexes. As a result, the utilization of space is well applied in the most of complexes especially in residential unit area. The connectivity to other spaces has low application compared to the others. Universal design is also well applied except sub criteria for the blind in most of complexes. This study will be able to help in providing better exterior pedestrian environment for residents in apartment complexes.

This study conducted an evaluation of the streetscape improvement project of the Gwangbok Street through analysis of correlations between psychological consciousness and physical elements in the street by comparing selected pictures of streetscape before and after the project. This work has conducted an analysis of Psychological characteristics by semantic differential method and an analysis of physical elements which influence psychological characteristics by regression analysis. According to the results of psychological analysis, the senses of interest, orderliness, esthetic and preference were highly improved in A district and the senses of openess, stability, orderliness were highly improved in B district. The results of analyzing physical elements influencing the improvement of these psychological consciousness in A district elucidated ; 1) the works of improving signboard and elevation of the building affected the whole these psychological consciousness, 2) the work of planting trees, making plant rests in the street improved the senses of orderliness, esthetic, 3) the work of changing finishing materials in the street enhanced the senses of esthetic, preference, 4) the work of adjusting the width between the road and the pavement, the work of improving traffic enhanced the senses of interest, preference. In the meantime in B district, the works of improving signboard and elevation of the building and those of planting trees, making plant rests in the street improved the senses of openess and orderliness. Also the work of improving traffic enhanced the senses of openess, stability and the work of expanding the pavement, that of changing finishing materials in the street improved the senses of openess, stability, orderliness.

Nowadays, the lighting of urban nightscape has become important for improvement in city. Lighting the outdoor is different that lighting an interior. Outdoor lighting designs should be designed to minimize glare, light trespass, light clutter and energy conservation to avoid light pollution. Mokpo city launched into a large scale project of the city beautification using outdoor lighting. However, outcomes of outdoor lighting project have faced strong opposition from environmental groups. This study aims to analyze the light pollution of outdoor lighting in Mokpo-si for creating a health night environment. The Radiant Imaging Prometric-1400 was used to measure the luminance of Yudal Mountain, Goha Island and Luminarie Street. The result showed that the all the outdoor lighting produce light pollution and some places like mountain and island did not need a lot of lighting all the time.

The most important advantages of atrium buildings are to allow the abundant natural lighting and outside views. However, the abundant lighting frequently causes to increase a cooling load in summer. The roof watering systems are useful to reduce the cooling load and save the energy. This study aims to investigate the effects of the roof watering system in atrium through the scaled model experiments. For the study, the 1/20 scaled model was made and tests were performed under the clear sky conditions through August 24 to september 7 in 2008. The model size was $45{\times}45{\times}60(cm)$ and depth of roof water was 3(cm). As results, the thermal effects of two types of atrium(roof opening, and roof and front opening,) were evaluated through the experimental points and conditions. It is expected to use the results for the next research to develop the practical roof watering systems for atrium.

To make a prediction for a change of residential environment caused by the building code in Seoul which includes loosening the distance between multi-residential buildings, proposals of the four main building arrangements by analyzing examples were selected and then, amount of daylight and view efficiency were analyzed and presented through computer simulation for the proposals. In the result of the analysis, there was a difference among the arrangements but, when the distance between buildings was applied 0.8H as the least, residential environment like daylight and view efficiency per unit significantly decreased in quality. Particularly, for the middle stories(6-15) and the high stories(16~24), when the distance between buildings decreased from the current measurement, 1.0H, to 0.8H, the analysis indicated that 28% of daylight and 7% of view efficiency were reduced. In the building arrangements, an order of the best residential environment was followed in this sequence; balanced arrangement of flat type as the best, combined arrangement between L-shape and tower types, balanced arrangement of tower type, combined arrangement between flat and Y-shape types, grid arrangement of flat type, and combined arrangement between Y-shape and tower types as the least.

Lighting for outdoor advertising is very common feature of building facades as they provide the information and commercial identification. As the interest of improving street beautification more widely, application of various lighting technologies has been develop for advertisement such as electric sign board and signage. Furthermore, the installation of higher sign luminance than needed has many negative consequences, including higher energy consumption and light pollution. There are now no standard for outdoor advertisements in terms of luminance, and installation of indiscreet outdoor advertisement without luminance consideration is becoming more commonplace. This study was to evaluate the luminous characteristics of outdoor advertising as a function of sign and building facade luminance, luminance ratio. Data were collected on 8 electric sign boards, 20 internally illuminated, externally illuminated, neon, and channel letter signs and 4 commercial areas. Photometric measurements were taken by CS-100(Minolta) and ProMetric-1400(Radiant Imaging) for various sign modes and sign design. Also luminance of building facades were analyzed according with CIE standard of maximum obtrusive light permitted for exterior lighting installations. The findings are as follows; (1) There were excessive luminance of electric sign boards that could affect adjacent building facade and night sky luminance. (2) Sings that are externally illuminated providing an inappropriate amount of light on to the outer surface of the sign caused higher building facade luminance and potential of unnecessary glare.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest rules and regulations about a bike parking facility, With the objective of expanding bike parking facilities for the comfort of bikers. In Korea, the requirements to establish the facility comply with several regulations like laws for the encouragement of bike usages, rules and regulations for the encouragement of bike usages, regulations of Gyeonggi Regional Corporation rules and Korea National Housing Corporation(Korea Land and Housing Corporation) and requirements for the approval of green buildings. Such rules regulate the number of parking spots depending on the number of nearby houses and the size of a parking facility. Amongst the foreign regulations about the facility is 'obligatory regulations for the establishment of a bike parking facility' in Japan. In the United States, all states apply rules about the bike facility to determine the number of bike parking spots in accordance with the number of car parking spots. Comparing Korean rules regarding the bike parking facility with those of foreign governments will give a good insight into the current situation of Korean regulations. In order to investigate the current usage of bikes, 30 houses in Goyang city, 35 schools, 16 retails shops and 20 medical centers were researched. Thereafter, a correlation test between the size of buildings and the number of bike parking spots was carried out. The result of the test indicates that there is a lack of space for bike parking. It is recommended that the bike parking facility be installed with a convenient access to a building in order to increase the rate of bike usages.

The purpose of the present study is to establish structural noise analyzing method for apartments building floor with structural-acoustic coupling analysis modeling. Noise through floor in the room is recognized as a significant problem with the consequence that noise isolation technique has been studied in the various fields of industry. From among noise factors, resonance sound is the main reason for solid noise of the floor, which is occurred by mechanical vibrations of the acoustic boundary line and the change of velocity. To analyse this phenomenon, numerical computation methods are provided in many fields, In this study, evaluation method for slab is established using finite element method, and a case study for analyzing acoustic phenomenon was suggested. The results show that numerical method, especially F.E.M, has a good approximation to predict noise at floors.
